Now faith is the substance
of things
hoped
for ,
the evidence
of things
not seen
.
Now faith is the assurance
of what
we
hope
for and
the certainty
of what
we
do
not see
.
For
by
it
the elders
obtained
a
good
report
.
This
is
why
the ancients
were
commended
.
Through
faith we understand that the worlds
were
framed
by
the
word
of
God
, so that things
which
are
seen were
not made of things
which
do
appear
.
By
faith we understand that the universe
was
formed
at
God’s
command
, so that what
is
seen was
not made out
of what
was
visible
.
By faith Abel offered unto
God a more
excellent
sacrifice than Cain ,
by which
he
obtained
witness
that
he was righteous ,
God testifying
of
his gifts :
and by it
he being
dead yet
speaketh
.
By faith Abel offered God a better
sacrifice than Cain did.
By faith
he was commended
as
righteous when
God gave
approval
to
his gifts .
And by faith
he still
speaks,
even
though
he
is
dead.
By faith Enoch was translated
that he should
not see death ;
and
was
not found, because God had translated
him :
for before his
translation
he had
this
testimony
, that
he pleased God.
By faith Enoch was taken
up
so
that he did
not see death :
“He
could
not be
found, because God had taken
him away.”
For before he was

commended
as

pleased God.

without faith it is impossible to please him:

that
cometh
to
God must believe that he is,

rewarder

that
diligently
seek him.

without faith it is impossible to please God ,
because
anyone
who
approaches
Him
must believe that He exists
and that He rewards
those
who
earnestly
seek Him.
By faith Noah, being
warned of
God
of
things not seen
as
yet, moved
with
fear ,
prepared
an ark to the
saving
of
his house;
by the
which
he condemned the world ,
and became heir of the righteousness which
is
by faith.

having received the things

were promised.
However

saw

and welcomed
them from
afar.

acknowledged
that they were strangers and exiles
on the earth.
For
they
that
say such things declare
plainly
that they seek
a country.
Now
those
who
say such things show
that they are
seeking
a country of
their
own
.
And
truly,
if they had been mindful
of that
country from
whence
they came
out
, they might
have had opportunity to have
returned
.
If they had been thinking
of the
country they had
left
, they would
have had opportunity to return
.
But
now
they desire
a better country, that
is,
an
heavenly :
wherefore
God is not ashamed to be called their God :
for he hath
prepared for
them
a city.
Instead,
they were
longing
for
a better country, a
heavenly one.
Therefore
God is not ashamed to be called their God ,
for He has
prepared a city for
them
.
By faith Abraham, when he was tried
, offered up Isaac :
and
he that
had received the promises offered
up
his only begotten
son,

He who
had received the promises was
ready
to
