And
straightway
in the morning the chief priests with
the
elders and
scribes, and the whole council,
held
a consultation,
and
bound Jesus, and
carried
him away, and delivered
him up
to Pilate.
Early
in the morning ,
the chief priests ,
elders ,
scribes, and the whole Sanhedrin
devised
a plan.
They
bound Jesus, led
Him away, and handed
Him over
to Pilate.
And
Pilate asked
him, Art
thou
the King of the Jews? And
he
answering
saith
unto
him
, Thou
sayest
.
So
Pilate questioned
Him, “Are
You
the King of the Jews? ”
“You
have
said
so
, ”
Jesus
replied
.
And the chief priests accused
him of many things.
And the chief priests began
to
accuse
Him of many things.
And
Pilate again
asked
him ,
saying
, Answerest
thou
nothing
? behold
how many things
they accuse
thee
of.
Then
Pilate questioned
Him again
, “Have
You
no
answer
? Look
how many charges
they are
bringing
against
You!”
But Jesus no more
answered
anything;
insomuch
that
Pilate
marvelled
.
But to
Pilate’s
amazement,
Jesus made
no further
reply
.
Now at the feast he
used
to release unto
them
one
prisoner ,
whom
they
asked
of him
.
Now it
was
Pilate’s
custom
at the feast to release to
the
people
a
prisoner of their
choosing
.
And there
was
one
called
Barabbas ,
`lying'
bound
with them
that
had
made
insurrection,
men
who
in
the insurrection
had committed murder.
And a
man
named
Barabbas was
imprisoned
with the rebels
who
had committed murder during
the
insurrection
.
And
the multitude
went up and began to
ask
him
`to
do'
as
he
was
wont
to do
unto
them
.
So
the crowd
went up and began asking
Pilate
to keep
his
custom
.
And
Pilate
answered
them,
saying,
Will
ye
that
I
release unto
you the King of the Jews?
“Do
you
want
me
to
release to
you the King of the Jews? ”
Pilate
asked.
For he perceived
that
for
envy the chief priests had delivered
him
up
.
For he knew
it
was
out
of
envy that
the chief priests had handed
Jesus
over
.
But the chief priests stirred up the multitude,
that
he
should
rather
release Barabbas unto
them.
But the chief priests stirred up the crowd
to
have
him
release Barabbas to
them instead
.
And
Pilate again
answered
and
said
unto
them, What then shall
I
do unto
him
whom
ye
call the King of the Jews?
So
Pilate asked
them again
, “
What then do you
want
me
to
do
with
the
One
you
call the King of the Jews? ”
And they cried
out
again
, Crucify him .
And they shouted
back
, “
Crucify Him !”
And
Pilate
said
unto
them,
Why ,
what evil hath
he done? But they cried
out
exceedingly
, Crucify him .
“
Why ?”
asked
Pilate.
“
What evil has
He done? ”
But they shouted
all
the
louder
, “
Crucify Him !”
And Pilate,
wishing to content
the multitude
, released unto
them
Barabbas ,
and
delivered
Jesus,
when
he had scourged
him
, to be crucified.
And wishing to satisfy
the crowd
, Pilate
released Barabbas to
them.
But
he had Jesus
flogged
, and
handed
Him
over
to be crucified.
And
the soldiers led him
away within
the court,
which
is the Praetorium ;
and they
call
together
the whole band
.
Then
the soldiers led Jesus
away into
the palace
(that
is ,
the Praetorium )
and called
the whole company
together
.
And
they clothe
him with
purple, and
platting
a crown of thorns, they
put
it on him;
They dressed
Him in
a
purple robe
, twisted
together
a crown of thorns, and
set
it on His
head.
and they began to salute him ,
Hail, King of the Jews!
And they began to salute Him :
“
Hail, King of the Jews! ”
And
they smote
his head with a reed,
and spat
upon
him ,
and bowing
their
knees
worshipped
him.
They kept
striking
His head with a staff
and spitting
on
Him .
And they
knelt
down
and
bowed
before
Him.
And
when
they had mocked him, they took
off
from
him
the purple ,
and put on him his
garments
. And
they lead
him out to crucify him.
After
they had mocked Him, they removed
the purple robe
and put His
own
clothes
back
on Him. Then
they led
Him out to crucify Him.
And
they
compel
one
passing
by,
Simon of Cyrene, coming
from
the country,
the
father of Alexander and Rufus, to
go
`with
them',
that
he
might
bear
his cross.
Now
Simon of Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was
passing
by
on
his way
in
from
the
country,
and
the
soldiers
forced
him
to
carry
the
cross of
Jesus
.
And
they bring
him
unto
the
place Golgotha, which is,
being
interpreted,
The place of a
skull.
They brought
Jesus
to
a
place called
Golgotha, which means
The Place of the
Skull.
And
they offered him wine mingled
with myrrh :
but he received
it
not.
There
they offered Him wine mixed
with myrrh ,
but He did
not take
it
.
And they crucify
him ,
and
part
his garments among
them,
casting lots upon
them,
what each should
take.
And they crucified
Him .
They
also
divided
His garments by
casting lots to
decide
what each of
them
would
take.
And
it was the third hour ,
and
they crucified him.
It was the third hour when
they crucified Him.
And the superscription
of
his
accusation
was
written
over,
THE KING OF THE JEWS.
And the charge
inscribed
against
Him
read:
THE KING OF THE JEWS.
And
with him
they crucify
two robbers ;
one on his right hand,
and one on his left.
Along
with Jesus,
they crucified
two robbers ,
one on His right and one on His left.
`And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was reckoned with transgressors.'

And they
that
passed by railed
on him, wagging
their heads ,
and saying, Ha
! Thou
that
destroyest
the temple ,
and buildest
it in three days,
And those
who
passed by heaped
abuse
on Him, shaking
their heads and saying, “Aha
! You
who
are
going
to
destroy
the temple and rebuild
it in three days,
save
thyself,
and
come down from the cross .
come down from the cross and
save
Yourself!”
In like
manner
also
the chief priests mocking
`
him '
among themselves with
the
scribes
said
, He saved others ;
himself
he cannot save .
In the same
way,
the
chief priests and
scribes
mocked
Him among themselves, saying,
“
He saved others ,
but
He cannot save Himself!
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now
come down from the cross, that we may see and believe .
And they
that
were crucified with him reproached
him.
Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now
from the cross, so
that we may see and believe !”
And even
those
who
were crucified with Him berated
Him.
And
when
the sixth hour was
come,
there
was
darkness
over
the
whole
land
until the ninth hour.
From
the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness
came
over
all
the
land
.
And
at the ninth hour Jesus cried with
a loud voice, Eloi, Eloi, lama
sabachthani? which is,
being
interpreted
, My God, my God, why hast
thou
forsaken me?
At the ninth hour ,
Jesus cried out
in
a loud voice, “
Eloi, Eloi, lema
sabachthani? ”
which means
, “
My God, My God, why have
You
forsaken Me? ”
And
some of them
that
stood
by,
when
they
heard it
, said, Behold, he calleth
Elijah.
When
some of those
standing
nearby
heard this
, they
said, “
Behold, He is
calling
Elijah. ”
And one
ran ,
and filling
a sponge full
of
vinegar,
put it on a reed ,
and gave
him
to drink, saying, Let
be;
let us see whether
Elijah cometh
to take him down.
And someone
ran and filled
a sponge with
sour
wine.
He
put it on a reed and held
it
up
for
Jesus
to drink, saying, “Leave
Him
alone.
Let us see if
Elijah comes
to take Him down. ”
And
Jesus uttered
a loud voice,
and gave
up
the
ghost
.
But
Jesus let
out
a loud cry
and breathed
His
last
.
And the veil of the temple was rent
in two from the
top to the
bottom.
And the veil of the temple was torn
in two from top to bottom.
And
when the centurion ,
who
stood
by
over
against
him,
saw that
he so
gave
up
the
ghost
, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God .
When the centurion standing
there
in
front
of
Jesus
saw how
He had
breathed
His
last
, he said, “
Truly this man was the Son of God !”
And there were also women beholding
from afar:
among whom
`
were '
both
Mary Magdalene, and
Mary the mother of James the less
and of Joses, and Salome ;
And there were also women watching
from a
distance.
Among them
were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger
and of Joses, and Salome .
who,
when
he was in Galilee, followed
him,
and ministered
unto
him;
and
many other women that
came
up with him unto
Jerusalem
.
These
women
had
followed
Jesus
and
ministered
to
Him
while
He was in Galilee, and there
were
many other women who
had
come
up to
Jerusalem
with Him.
And
when
even
was
now come,
because
it was the
Preparation ,
that is, the day before the sabbath,
Now it was already
evening.
Since
it
was
Preparation Day
(
that is, the day before the Sabbath )
,
there
came
Joseph of Arimathaea
, a councillor
of
honorable
estate,
who also
himself was looking
for the kingdom of God ;
and
he
boldly went in
unto
Pilate ,
and
asked
for the body of Jesus.
Joseph of Arimathea
, a prominent
Council
member
who himself was waiting
for the kingdom of God ,
boldly went to
Pilate to
ask
for the body of Jesus.
And
Pilate marvelled
if
he
were
already dead :
and
calling
unto
him
the
centurion
, he
asked
him
whether
he had
been
any
while
dead
.
Pilate was
surprised
to
hear
that
Jesus
was
already dead, so
he summoned
the
centurion
to
ask
if
this
was
so
.
And
when he
learned
it of
the centurion, he granted the corpse
to Joseph.
When Pilate
had
confirmed
it with
the centurion, he granted the body
to Joseph.
And
he
bought a linen cloth, and
taking
him
down, wound
him
in the linen
cloth, and laid
him
in a tomb which
had been hewn
out of a
rock ;
and
he rolled a stone against the door
of
the tomb.
So
Joseph
bought a linen cloth, took
down the
body
of
Jesus
, wrapped
it
in the cloth, and placed
it
in a tomb that
had been cut
out of the
rock .
Then
he rolled a stone against the entrance
to
the tomb.
And
Mary Magdalene and Mary the `
mother '
of Joses
beheld
where he
was laid
.
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph
saw
where His
body
was placed
.
