One
Sabbath Jesus
was passing
through the grainfields ,
and His disciples began
to
pick
the heads
of
grain
, rub
them in their hands ,
and
eat
them
.
Now
it
came
to
pass
on
a
sabbath ,
that
he
was going
through the grainfields ;
and his disciples plucked
the ears
, and
did
eat,
rubbing
them in their hands.
But some
of the Pharisees asked
, “
Why are
you
doing
what
is unlawful
on the Sabbath? ”
But certain
of the Pharisees said
, Why do
ye
that
which
it
is not
lawful
to
do
on the sabbath day
?
Jesus replied
, “
Have you
not read what David did when he and his
companions
were hungry?
And
Jesus answering
them
said
, Have ye
not read even
this,
what David did ,
when he was
hungry,
he,
and they
that
were with
him;
He entered the house of God, took the consecrated
bread
and gave it
to his
companions,
and
ate
what
is lawful only
for the priests to
eat.”
how
he entered into
the house of God, and
took and
ate
the showbread,
and gave also
to them
that
were
with
him;
which
it
is not
lawful to
eat
save
for the priests alone?
Then
Jesus
declared
, “
The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. ”
And
he
said
unto
them
, The Son of man is lord of the sabbath.
On another Sabbath Jesus
entered the synagogue and was
teaching,
and a man was
there whose
right hand was withered.
And
it
came
to
pass
on another sabbath ,
that
he
entered into
the synagogue and taught:
and there
was
a man there ,
and
his
right hand was withered.
Looking
for
a
reason
to
accuse
Jesus,
the scribes and Pharisees were
watching
Him closely
to
see
if
He would heal on the Sabbath.
And
the scribes and the
Pharisees watched
him ,
whether
he would heal on the sabbath ;
that
they
might
find
how
to
accuse
him
.
But Jesus
knew their thoughts and said to the man with
the
withered
hand, “Get
up and stand among
us
. ”
So
he got
up
and stood there
.
But he
knew their thoughts ;
and he
said to the man that
had
his
hand withered
, Rise
up ,
and stand forth
in
the
midst
. And
he arose
and stood forth
.
Then
Jesus said to
them, “
I ask you, which
is lawful on the Sabbath :
to do good or to do evil,
to save life or to destroy it? ”
And
Jesus said unto
them, I ask you, Is it
lawful on the sabbath to do good ,
or to do harm?
to save a
life ,
or to destroy it?
And after
looking
around
at
all
of
them, He
said to
the
man
, “
Stretch out
your
hand. ”
He did so ,
and it
was restored.
And he
looked
round
about
on
them all
, and
said unto
him
, Stretch forth
thy
hand. And
he did `
so ':
and his
hand
was restored.
But the
scribes
and
Pharisees
were filled with rage
and began
to
discuss
with
one another what they might do to Jesus.
But they
were filled with madness;
and communed
one with
another what they might do to Jesus.
In those
days Jesus
went out to
the mountain to pray ,
and He spent
the
night in prayer to God.
And
it
came
to
pass
in these
days ,
that
he
went out into
the mountain to pray ;
and he continued
all
night in prayer to God.
When daylight
came
, He called His disciples to
Him
and chose twelve
of
them, whom He
also designated
as
apostles:
And
when it
was
day
, he called his disciples ;
and he
chose from
them twelve
, whom also he
named
apostles:
Simon, whom He named Peter, and his brother Andrew;
James and John ;
Philip and Bartholomew ;
Simon, whom he also
named Peter, and Andrew
his brother ,
and
James and John ,
and
Philip and Bartholomew ,
Matthew and Thomas ;
James son of Alphaeus and Simon called the Zealot ;
and
Matthew and Thomas ,
and
James `the
son '
of Alphaeus ,
and Simon who
was
called the Zealot ,
Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor .
and
Judas `the
son '
of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor ;
Then
Jesus
came down with them and stood on a level place .
A large
crowd
of His disciples was
there
, along
with
a great number of people from all over
Judea,
Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon .
and
he
came down with them ,
and stood on a level place ,
and
a great
multitude
of his disciples, and
a great number of the
people from all Judaea
and
Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon ,
who
came
to
hear
him,
and
to
be
healed
of
their
diseases;
They
had
come
to
hear
Him
and to
be
healed
of
their
diseases,
and
those
troubled by
unclean spirits were healed.
and they
that
were
troubled with
unclean spirits were healed.
The entire
crowd
was
trying
to touch Him ,
because
power was
coming
from Him and healing
them all.
And
all
the multitude
sought
to touch him ;
for
power came
forth
from him ,
and healed
`
them '
all.
Looking
up at
His disciples, Jesus
said :
“
Blessed are
you
who
are poor ,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
And
he
lifted
up his eyes
on
his
disciples, and
said ,
Blessed `
are '
ye
poor :
for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you
who
hunger now ,
for you
will
be filled. Blessed are you
who
weep now ,
for you
will
laugh.
Blessed `
are '
ye
that
hunger now :
for ye
shall
be filled. Blessed `
are '
ye
that
weep now :
for ye
shall
laugh.
Blessed are you
when people
hate you, and when they exclude
you and insult
you and reject
your name as evil because
of
the Son of Man
.
Blessed are ye,
when men
shall
hate you, and when they shall
separate
you `from
their
company',
and reproach
you ,
and cast
out
your name as evil ,
for
the Son of man's
sake
.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because
great
is
your reward in heaven .
For their fathers treated
the prophets in
the
same
way
.
Rejoice in that day ,
and leap `
for joy ':
for
behold
, your reward is
great
in heaven ;
for in
the
same
manner
did
their fathers unto
the prophets.
But woe to
you who
are rich ,
for you
have already
received your comfort
.
But woe unto
you that
are rich !
for ye
have received your consolation
.
Woe to
you who
are well
fed
now ,
for you
will
hunger. Woe to
you who
laugh now ,
for you
will
mourn and weep.
Woe unto
you ,
ye
that
are full
now !
for ye
shall
hunger. Woe `unto
you ',
ye
that
laugh now !
for ye
shall
mourn and weep.
Woe to
you when all men speak well of you ,
for their fathers treated
the false prophets in
the
same
way
.
Woe `unto
you ',
when all men shall
speak well of you !
for in
the
same
manner
did
their fathers to
the false prophets.
But to
those
of
you
who
will
listen,
I say :
Love your enemies, do good to those
who
hate you,
But I say unto
you
that
hear,
Love your enemies, do good to them
that
hate you,
bless those
who
curse you, pray for those
who
mistreat
you.
bless them
that
curse you, pray for them
that
despitefully
use
you.
If
someone
strikes
you
on one cheek ,
turn
to
him
the other also.
And if
someone
takes
your
cloak ,
do
not
withhold your
tunic
as
well
.
To
him
that
smiteth
thee
on the
`
one '
cheek offer
also
the other ;
and from
him
that
taketh
away
thy
cloak withhold not
thy
coat
also
.
Give to everyone
who
asks
you,
and if
anyone
takes
what
is
yours,
do
not demand
it
back
.
Give to every
one
that
asketh
thee;
and of
him
that
taketh
away
thy
goods
ask
them
not again
.
Do
to
others
as you
would have
them
do to you.
And
as ye
would that
men
should
do to you ,
do
ye
also
to
them
likewise
.
If you
love those
who
love you, what credit
is
that
to
you
? Even sinners love those who
love them.
And
if ye
love them
that
love you, what thank
have
ye
? for
even sinners love those that
love them.
If you
do good to those
who
do good to you, what credit
is
that
to
you
? Even sinners do the same.
And
if ye
do good to them
that
do good to you, what thank
have
ye
? for
even sinners do the same.
And if you
lend to those
from
whom you
expect
repayment
, what credit
is
that
to
you
? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting
to be
repaid
in
full
.
And if ye
lend to them
of
whom ye
hope
to
receive
, what thank
have
ye
? even sinners lend to sinners, to receive
again
as
much
.
But love your enemies, do good
to
them, and lend to
them
, expecting
nothing
in
return.
Then
your reward will
be great, and you
will
be sons of the Most High ;
for He is kind to
the ungrateful
and wicked
.
But love your enemies, and
do `
them '
good
, and lend, never
despairing;
and
your reward shall
be great, and ye
shall
be sons of the Most High :
for he is kind toward
the unthankful
and evil
.
Be merciful, just
as your Father is merciful.
Be ye
merciful, even
as your Father is merciful.
Do
not
judge, and you
will
not be judged .
Do
not
condemn, and you
will
not be condemned .
Forgive
, and you
will
be forgiven.
And
judge not
, and ye
shall
not be judged :
and
condemn not
, and ye
shall
not be condemned :
release
, and ye
shall
be released:
Give, and it will
be given to
you .
A
good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and
running over will
be
poured
into your lap
. For with the
measure you
use,
it will
be measured back
to you. ”
give, and it shall
be given unto
you ;
good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over ,
shall
they
give
into your bosom
. For with what
measure ye
mete
it shall
be measured to you again
.
Jesus
also told
them
a parable :
“
Can a
blind man
lead
a
blind man
? Will
they not both fall into a pit?
And
he
spake
also a parable unto
them,
Can the
blind guide
the
blind? shall
they not both fall into a pit?
A
disciple is not above his teacher ,
but everyone
who
is fully
trained
will
be like
his teacher.
The
disciple is not above his teacher :
but every
one
when
he
is perfected
shall
be as
his teacher.
Why do
you
look
at
the speck
in your
brother’s
eye, but fail
to
notice
the beam in your
own eye?
And
why beholdest
thou
the mote
that
is
in thy
brother's
eye, but considerest
not
the beam that
is
in thine
own eye?
How can
you
say, ‘
Brother, let me take
the
speck
out of
your
eye, ’
while
you
yourself
fail
to
see
the beam in your
own eye? You
hypocrite !
First take
the beam out of your
own eye, and then you
will
see clearly to remove
the speck
from
your
brother’s
eye.
Or
how canst
thou
say to
thy
brother
, Brother, let me cast
out the
mote
that
is
in
thine
eye, when
thou
thyself
beholdest
not
the beam that
is
in thine
own eye? Thou
hypocrite ,
cast
out
first the beam out of thine
own eye, and then shalt
thou
see clearly to cast
out
the mote
that
is
in
thy
brother's
eye.
No good tree bears
bad
fruit ,
nor does
a bad
tree bear
good fruit.
For
there
is
no good tree that
bringeth
forth
corrupt
fruit ;
nor again
a corrupt
tree that
bringeth
forth
good fruit.
For each tree is known by its own fruit. Indeed,
figs
are
not gathered
from
thornbushes
, nor grapes from
brambles
.
For each tree is known by its own fruit. For
of
thorns
men
do
not gather
figs
, nor of
a
bramble
bush
gather
they
grapes.
The good man brings
good
things
out of the good treasure of his heart ,
and the evil man brings
evil
things
out of the evil treasure of
his
heart.
For out of the overflow
of the heart ,
the
mouth speaks
.
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth
forth
that
which
is
good;
and the evil `
man '
out of the evil `
treasure '
bringeth
forth
that
which
is
evil:
for out of the abundance
of the heart his
mouth speaketh
.
Why do
you
call Me ‘
Lord, Lord, ’
but
not
do what
I say?
And
why call ye
me ,
Lord, Lord, and
do not
the
things
which
I say?
I will show you what
he is like who
comes
to
Me
and
hears
My
words
and
acts
on
them
:
Every
one
that
cometh
unto
me,
and
heareth
my
words,
and
doeth
them,
I will show you to
whom
he is like:
He is like a man building a house, who dug
down
deep and laid his
foundation on
the rock .
When the
flood came
, the torrent
crashed
against that house but
could not shake it ,
because it was
well built
.
he is like a man building a house, who digged
and
went
deep ,
and laid a
foundation upon
the rock :
and
when a
flood arose
, the stream
brake
against that house ,
and
could not shake it :
because it had
been
well builded
.
But the
one
who
hears
My
words
and does
not act
on
them
is like a man who
built his
house on
ground
without a foundation .
The
torrent
crashed
against that
house
, and immediately
it fell —
and great
was its
destruction!”
But he
that
heareth,
and doeth
not ,
is like a man that
built a
house upon
the
earth
without a foundation ;
against which
the
stream
brake
, and straightway
it fell in;
and the
ruin
of
that
house
was great.
