Now
as Jesus
was
passing
by, He saw a man blind from birth ,
And
as he
passed
by, he saw a man blind from his
birth .
and His disciples asked Him, “
Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was
born blind? ”
And his disciples asked him, saying,
Rabbi, who sinned, this man ,
or his parents, that he should
be
born blind?
Jesus answered, “
Neither this man nor his parents sinned,
but this
happened
so
that the works of God would
be displayed
in him.
Jesus answered, Neither did
this man sin,
nor his parents :
but that the works of God should
be made
manifest
in him.
While
it
is
daytime,
we must do
the works of Him who
sent Me .
Night
is coming
, when no one
can work.
We must work
the works of him that
sent me ,
while
it
is day:
the
night
cometh
, when no man
can work.
While
I am in the world, I am the light of the world. ”
When
I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
When Jesus
had said
this
, He spit
on the ground, made some
mud
, and applied
it
to
the
man’s
eyes .
When he
had thus
spoken
, he spat
on the ground, and
made clay
of
the
spittle
, and anointed
his
eyes with
the
clay,
Then
He
told
him, “
Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam ”
(which means
“
Sent ”
). So
the
man
went and washed, and came back
seeing.
and
said
unto
him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is
by
interpretation,
Sent). He
went away
therefore,
and washed, and came seeing.
At
this,
his
neighbors and those
who
had
formerly
seen
him begging
began
to
ask
, “Isn’t
this the
man
who
used
to
sit
and beg
? ”
The
neighbors therefore,
and they
that
saw
him aforetime
, that
he
was
a
beggar,
said,
Is
not
this he
that
sat
and begged
?
Some
claimed
that
he
was
, but
others said, “
No, he just
looks
like him. ”
But
the
man
kept
saying
, “
I am the
one
. ”
Others
said
, It
is
he:
others said, No, but
he is
like him. He
said
, I am `he'
.
“
How then were your
eyes opened? ”
they
asked.
They
said
therefore
unto
him,
How then were thine
eyes opened?
He answered, “
The man they
call
Jesus made some
mud
and anointed my
eyes, and He
told
me to
go to Siloam and wash .
So I went and washed and received my
sight. ”
He answered, The man that
is
called
Jesus made clay,
and anointed mine
eyes, and said
unto
me ,
Go to Siloam ,
and wash :
so I went away
and washed ,
and I
received sight.
“
Where is He? ”
they
asked.
“
I do
not
know ,”
he
answered
.
And
they
said
unto
him,
Where is he? He
saith,
I know not
.
They brought
to the Pharisees the
man
who
had
been
blind.
They bring
to the Pharisees him
that
aforetime
was
blind.
Now the day
on which
Jesus had
made the mud
and opened his eyes was
a
Sabbath
.
Now it
was
the sabbath
on the
day
when
Jesus made the clay,
and opened his eyes.
So
the Pharisees also asked him how he had
received his sight. The
man
answered
, “
He put mud
on
my
eyes, and I washed, and now
I can
see. ”
Again
therefore
the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And
he
said
unto
them
, He put clay
upon
mine
eyes, and I washed, and I see.
Because
of
this,
some of the Pharisees said, “
This man is not from God, for
He does
not keep
the Sabbath. ”
But others said, “
How can a sinful
man perform
such signs? ”
And there was division among them.
Some therefore
of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because
he keepeth
not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that
is
a
sinner
do
such signs? And there was division among them.
So
once
again
they asked
the man
who
had
been
blind, “
What do
you
say
about
Him, since
it
was
your
eyes
He opened? ”
“
He is a prophet ,”
the
man
replied
.
They say
therefore
unto
the blind man
again
, What sayest
thou
of
him, in
that
he opened thine
eyes
? And
he said,
He
is a prophet.
The Jews still
did not believe that the
man
had been blind and had received his sight until they summoned
his
parents
The Jews therefore
did not believe concerning
him,
that he
had been blind ,
and had received his sight ,
until they called
the
parents of
him
that
had
received
his
sight,
and asked, “
Is this your son, the
one
you
say was born blind? So
how is
it
that
he can
now see? ”
and asked them
, saying,
Is this your son, who
ye
say was born blind? How then
doth
he now see?
His parents answered, “
We know he
is our son, and we
know
he was born blind .
His parents answered and
said
, We know that
this
is our son, and that
he was born blind :
But how he can
now see
or who opened his eyes, we do
not
know .
Ask him .
He is old
enough
to
speak for himself. ”
but how he now seeth,
we
know
not;
or who opened his eyes, we know not:
ask him ;
he is of
age;
he
shall
speak for himself.
His parents said
this
because they were
afraid
of
the Jews .
For the Jews had already determined
that anyone
who
confessed
Jesus
as
the
Christ would
be put out of the synagogue.
These
things
said
his parents ,
because they feared
the Jews :
for the Jews had agreed
already ,
that if
any
man
should
confess
him
`to
be'
Christ ,
he
should
be put out of the synagogue.
That
was
why
his parents said
, “
He is old
enough.
Ask him. ”
Therefore
said
his parents, He is of
age;
ask him.
So a second time they
called
for
the man who
had
been
blind and said, “
Give glory to God !
We know that this man is a sinner. ”
So they
called
a second time the man that
was
blind ,
and said unto
him
, Give glory to God :
we know that this man is a sinner.
He answered, “
Whether He is a sinner I do
not
know .
There
is
one thing I do
know :
I was blind, but
now I see !”
He therefore
answered, Whether he is a sinner ,
I know not:
one thing I know ,
that,
whereas
I was blind, now I see .
“
What did He do
to you
? ”
they
asked.
“
How did
He open
your
eyes? ”
They
said
therefore
unto
him,
What did he to thee
? How opened
he thine
eyes?
He replied
, “
I already
told you, and you
did not listen.
Why
do
you
want
to
hear it again? Do
you
also want
to
become His disciples? ”
He answered
them
, I told you even
now
, and ye
did not hear ;
wherefore
would
ye
hear
it again? would
ye
also become his disciples?
Then
they heaped
insults
on
him and said, “You
are
His disciple; we are disciples of Moses.
And
they reviled
him ,
and said, Thou
art
his disciple; but
we are disciples of Moses.
We know that God spoke
to
Moses ,
but we
do
not
know
where
this man is from
. ”
We know that God hath
spoken
unto
Moses :
but as
for
this man ,
we
know
not
whence
he
is.
“That
is
remarkable
indeed!”
the man said .
“You
do
not
know where
He is from
, and yet He opened my
eyes.
The man answered
and
said unto
them,
Why,
herein
is
the
marvel,
that
ye
know not
whence
he is, and `
yet '
he opened mine
eyes.
We know that God does
not listen
to
sinners ,
but He
does
listen
to
the
one
who
worships
Him
and does
His will.
We know that God heareth
not sinners :
but if
any
man
be
a
worshipper
of
God,
and do
his will ,
him
he
heareth
.
Never before
has
anyone
heard of
opening
the eyes of a man born blind.
Since
the
world
began
it
was
never heard that
any
one
opened
the eyes of a man born blind.
If this man were not from God, He could do no
such
thing
. ”
If this man were not from God, he could do nothing
.
They replied
, “You
were
born in utter
sin
, and you
are
instructing
us? ”
And they threw
him out.
They answered
and
said
unto
him
, Thou
wast
altogether
born in sins
, and dost
thou
teach
us? And they cast
him out.
When
Jesus heard that they had thrown
him out, He found
the
man
and
said, “Do
you
believe in
the Son of Man
? ”
Jesus heard that they had cast
him out ;
and
finding
him
, he said, Dost
thou
believe on
the Son of God
?
“
Who is He, Sir?”
he
replied.
“Tell
me
so
that I may believe in
Him .”
He
answered
and
said,
And
who is he, Lord,
that I may believe on
him ?
“You
have
already
seen Him, ”
Jesus
answered.
“
He is the
One
speaking
with you
. ”
Jesus
said
unto
him,
Thou
hast
both
seen him, and
he it
is that
speaketh
with thee
.
“
Lord, I believe ,”
he
said
. And he worshiped
Jesus
.
And
he
said,
Lord, I believe. And he worshipped
him
.
Then
Jesus declared
, “
For judgment I have
come
into this world, so
that the
blind
may see and those
who
see may become blind. ”
And
Jesus said
, For judgment came
I into this world, that they
that
see
not
may see ;
and that
they
that
see may become blind.
Some
of the Pharisees who were with Him heard this
, and they
asked
Him, “
Are we blind too
? ”
Those
of the Pharisees who were with him heard these
things
, and said
unto
him, Are we also
blind?
“
If you
were blind, ”
Jesus
replied,
“you
would not
be
guilty
of
sin .
But since
you
claim
you
can
see
, your guilt
remains
. ”
Jesus
said
unto
them,
If ye
were blind, ye
would have
no
sin :
but now
ye
say
, We
see:
your sin
remaineth
.
