Berean Standard Bible
And
as Jesus passed
by, he saw a man which
was
blind from his
birth .
Now
as Jesus was
passing
by, He saw a man blind from birth ,
And his disciples asked him, saying,
Master
, who did
sin
, this man ,
or his parents, that he was born blind?
and His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi
, who sinned
, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? ”
Jesus answered, Neither hath
this man sinned,
nor his parents :
but that the works of God should
be made
manifest
in him.
Jesus answered, “
Neither this man nor his parents sinned,
but this
happened
so
that the works of God would
be displayed
in him.
I
must work
the works of him that
sent me ,
while
it
is
day:
the
night cometh
, when no man
can work.
While
it
is
daytime,
we
must do
the works of Him who
sent Me .
Night is
coming
, when no one
can work.
As
long
as
I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
While
I am in the world, I am the light of the world. ”
When he
had thus
spoken
, he spat
on the ground, and
made clay
of
the
spittle
, and he
anointed
the eyes of
the
blind
man
with
the
clay,
When Jesus
had said
this
, He spit
on the ground, made some
mud
, and applied
it
to
the man’s
eyes .
And
said
unto
him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam ,
(which is
by
interpretation,
Sent .
) He
went his
way
therefore,
and washed, and came seeing.
Then
He
told
him, “
Go, wash in the Pool of Siloam ”
(which means
“
Sent ”
) .
So
the
man
went and washed, and came back
seeing.
The
neighbours
therefore
, and they
which
before
had seen him that
he
was
blind,
said
, Is
not
this he
that
sat
and begged
?
At
this
, his
neighbors
and those
who
had formerly
seen him begging
began
to
ask
, “Isn’t
this the
man
who
used
to
sit
and beg
? ”
Some said,
This
is
he :
others said, He is
like him :
but he
said
, I am he
.
Some claimed
that
he was,
but
others said, “No,
he just
looks
like him .”
But the
man
kept
saying
, “
I am the
one
. ”
Therefore
said
they
unto
him,
How were thine
eyes opened?
“
How then
were your
eyes opened? ”
they
asked.
He answered and
said
, A
man that
is
called
Jesus made clay,
and anointed mine
eyes, and said
unto
me ,
Go to the
pool
of
Siloam ,
and wash :
and
I went and washed ,
and I
received sight.
He answered, “The
man they
call
Jesus made some
mud
and anointed my
eyes, and He
told
me to
go to Siloam and wash .
So
I went and washed and received my
sight. ”
Then
said
they
unto
him,
Where is he? He
said,
I know
not.
“
Where is He? ”
they
asked.
“
I do
not know,”
he
answered
.
They brought to the Pharisees him
that
aforetime
was
blind.
They brought to the Pharisees the
man
who
had
been
blind.
And
it
was
the sabbath
day when
Jesus made the clay,
and opened his eyes.
Now
the day on
which
Jesus had
made the mud
and opened his eyes was
a
Sabbath
.
Then
again
the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He
said
unto
them
, He put clay
upon
mine
eyes, and I washed, and do
see.
So
the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. The
man
answered
, “
He put mud
on
my
eyes, and I washed, and now
I
can
see. ”
Therefore
said
some of the Pharisees, This man is not of
God, because
he keepeth
not the sabbath day
. Others said, How can a man that
is
a
sinner
do
such miracles
? And there was a
division among them.
Because
of
this,
some of the Pharisees said
, “
This man is not from
God, for
He does
not keep
the Sabbath. ”
But
others said, “
How can a sinful
man perform
such signs
? ”
And there was division among them.
They say
unto
the blind
man again
, What sayest
thou
of
him, that
he hath
opened thine
eyes
? He
said,
He is a prophet.
So
once
again
they asked
the man who
had
been
blind
, “
What do
you
say
about
Him, since
it
was
your
eyes
He opened? ”
“
He is a prophet ,”
the
man
replied
.
But
the Jews did not believe concerning
him,
that he
had been blind ,
and received his sight ,
until they called
the
parents
of
him
that
had
received
his sight.
The Jews still
did not believe that the
man
had been blind and had
received his sight until they summoned
his parents
And they
asked them
, saying,
Is this your son, who
ye
say was born blind? how then
doth
he now see?
and asked, “
Is this your son, the
one
you
say was born blind? So
how is
it
that
he can
now see? ”
His parents answered them
and
said
, We know that
this
is our son, and that
he was born blind :
His parents answered, “
We know he
is our son, and we
know
he was born blind .
But by
what
means
he now seeth,
we
know
not;
or who hath
opened his eyes, we know
not :
he
is
of
age;
ask him :
he shall
speak for himself.
But how
he can
now see
or who opened his eyes, we do
not know.
Ask him .
He is
old
enough
to
speak for himself. ”
These
words
spake
his parents ,
because they feared
the Jews :
for the Jews had agreed
already ,
that
if
any
man
did
confess
that he
was
Christ ,
he
should
be put out of the synagogue.
His parents said
this
because they were
afraid
of
the Jews .
For the Jews had already determined
that anyone
who
confessed
Jesus
as
the
Christ would
be put out of the synagogue.
Therefore
said
his parents, He is of
age;
ask him.
That
was
why
his parents said
, “
He is old
enough.
Ask him. ”
Then
again
called
they the man that
was
blind ,
and said unto
him
, Give God the
praise:
we know that this man is a sinner.
So
a
second
time
they called
for
the man who
had
been
blind and said, “
Give glory
to
God !
We know that this man is a sinner. ”
He answered and
said
, Whether he be
a sinner or
no,
I know
not :
one thing I know ,
that,
whereas
I was blind, now I see .
He answered, “
Whether He is
a sinner I do
not know.
There
is
one thing I do
know :
I was blind, but
now I see !”
Then
said
they
to
him
again,
What did he to thee
? how opened
he thine
eyes?
“
What did He do
to you
? ”
they
asked.
“
How did
He open
your
eyes? ”
He answered
them
, I have
told you already
, and ye
did not hear:
wherefore
would
ye
hear it again? will
ye
also be
his disciples?
He replied
, “
I already
told you, and you
did not listen.
Why
do
you
want
to
hear it again? Do
you
also want
to
become
His disciples? ”
Then they reviled
him ,
and said, Thou
art
his disciple; but
we are Moses'
disciples.
Then they heaped
insults
on
him and said, “You
are
His disciple; we are disciples of
Moses
.
We know that God spake
unto
Moses :
as
for
this
fellow
, we know
not from
whence
he
is.
We know that God spoke
to
Moses, but
we do
not know
where
this
man
is from
. ”
The man answered
and
said unto
them,
Why
herein
is
a
marvellous
thing,
that
ye
know
not from
whence
he is, and yet he hath
opened mine
eyes.
“That
is
remarkable
indeed!”
the man said .
“You
do
not know
where
He is from
, and yet He opened my
eyes.
Now
we know that God heareth
not sinners :
but
if
any
man
be
a
worshipper
of
God
, and doeth
his will ,
him
he
heareth
.
We know that God does
not listen
to
sinners, but
He
does
listen
to
the
one
who
worships
Him
and does
His will.
Since
the
world
began
was
it
not
heard that
any
man
opened
the eyes of one
that
was
born blind.
Never
before
has
anyone
heard of
opening
the eyes of a
man
born blind.
If this man were not of
God, he could do nothing
.
If this man were not from
God, He could do no
such
thing
. ”
They answered
and
said
unto
him
, Thou
wast
altogether
born in sins
, and dost
thou
teach
us? And they cast
him out.
They replied
, “You
were
born in utter
sin
, and you
are
instructing
us? ”
And they threw
him out.
Jesus heard that they had cast
him out ;
and
when
he
had
found
him
, he said unto
him
, Dost
thou
believe on
the Son of God
?
When
Jesus heard that they had thrown
him out, He found
the
man
and
said, “Do
you
believe in
the Son of Man
? ”
He
answered
and
said,
Who is he, Lord,
that I might
believe on
him ?
“
Who is He, Sir?”
he
replied.
“Tell
me
so
that I may
believe in
Him .”
And
Jesus
said
unto
him,
Thou
hast
both
seen him, and
it
is
he that
talketh
with thee
.
“You
have
already
seen Him, ”
Jesus
answered.
“
He is
the
One
speaking
with you
. ”
And
he
said,
Lord, I believe. And he worshipped
him
.
“
Lord, I believe ,”
he
said
. And he worshiped
Jesus
.
And
Jesus said
, For judgment I am
come into this world, that they
which
see
not
might
see ;
and that
they
which
see might
be
made
blind.
Then
Jesus declared
, “
For judgment I have
come into this world, so
that the
blind
may
see and those
who
see may
become
blind. ”
And
some of the Pharisees which
were with him heard these
words
, and said
unto
him, Are we blind also
?
Some of the Pharisees who
were with Him heard this
, and they
asked
Him, “
Are we blind too
? ”
Jesus
said
unto
them,
If ye
were blind, ye
should
have
no
sin :
but now
ye
say,
We
see ;
therefore
your sin
remaineth
.
“
If you
were blind, ”
Jesus
replied,
“you
would
not
be
guilty
of
sin .
But since
you
claim
you
can
see ,
your guilt
remains
. ”
