Young's Literal Translation

King James Version
Am not
I an apostle? am not
I free? Jesus
Christ
our
Lord
have I not seen? my
work
are not ye in the Lord?
Am I not
an apostle? am I not
free? have I not seen Jesus
Christ
our
Lord
? are not ye my
work
in the Lord?
if to
others
I am
not an apostle --
yet doubtless to
you
I am ;
for the seal of my
apostleship are ye in the Lord.
If I be
not an apostle unto
others,
yet doubtless I am to
you:
for the seal of mine
apostleship are ye in the Lord.
My
defence
to those
who
examine me in
this ;
Mine
answer
to them
that
do
examine me is
this ,
have we not authority
to eat and to drink?
Have we not power
to eat and to drink?
have we not authority
a sister --
a wife --
to
lead
about
, as also
the
other apostles, and the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
Have we not power
to
lead
about
a sister ,
a wife, as well
as
other apostles, and as
the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
or only
I and Barnabas, have we
not authority
--
not
to work
?
Or I only
and Barnabas, have not we
power
to forbear
working
?
who doth
serve
as
a soldier
at his own charges at
any
time
? who doth
plant
a vineyard, and of its
fruit doth
not
eat
? or who doth
feed
a flock, and of the milk of the flock doth
not
eat
?
Who goeth
a warfare
any
time
at his own charges? who planteth
a vineyard, and eateth
not
of the
fruit thereof
? or who feedeth
a flock, and eateth
not
of the milk of the flock?
According
to
man
do
I speak
these things? or doth
not also
the law say
these
things
?
Say
I these things as
a
man
? or saith
not the law the
same
also
?
for in the law of Moses it
hath
been
written
, `
thou shalt not muzzle an
ox treading
out corn;'
for
the oxen
doth God care?
For it
is
written
in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the
mouth
of
the
ox that
treadeth
out the corn.
Doth God take
care for
oxen
?
or because
of
us
by
all
means
doth
He say
`
it '
? yes
, because
of
us
it
was
written
, because
in hope ought
the
plower
to
plow,
and he who
is
treading
`ought'
of his hope to
partake
in
hope
.
Or saith
he it altogether
for
our
sakes
? For
our
sakes
, no
doubt
, this
is
written:
that
he
that
ploweth
should
plow
in hope ;
and that
he that
thresheth
in
hope
should
be
partaker
of his hope.
If we to
you the
spiritual things did
sow
--
great
`
is it '
if we your fleshly
things do
reap
?
If we have
sown
unto
you spiritual things ,
is it a
great
thing
if we shall
reap
your carnal
things?
if others do
partake
of the
authority
over you --
not we more
? but
we did
not use
this authority,
but all things we
bear
, that
we may
give
no
hindrance
to
the good
news
of the
Christ.
If others be
partakers
of this
power
over you ,
are
not we rather
? Nevertheless
we have
not used
this power;
but suffer
all things, lest
we should
hinder
the gospel
of Christ.
Have
ye not known
that those
working
about the
things of the temple
--
of the temple do
eat,
and those
waiting
at the altar --
with the altar are
partakers
?
Do
ye not know
that they
which
minister
about holy
things live
of the things
of the temple ?
and they
which
wait
at the altar are
partakers
with the altar?
so also
did
the Lord direct
to
those
proclaiming
the good
news:
of the good
news
to
live
.
Even
so hath
the Lord ordained
that
they
which
preach
the gospel
should
live
of the gospel
.
And
I have used none of these things ;
neither did
I write
these things that it may
be so done in
my
case,
for `
it is'
good
for me rather
to die, than that any one
may
make my glorying void ;
But
I have used none of these things :
neither have
I written
these things ,
that it should
be so done unto
me:
for it were
better
for me to die, than that any man
should
make my glorying void .
for if
I may
proclaim
good
news,
it
is
no
glorying
for
me
, for necessity is laid upon me, and
wo
is to
me if I may
not proclaim
good
news;
For though
I preach
the
gospel
, I
have
nothing
to
glory
of:
for necessity is laid upon me ;
yea
, woe
is unto
me ,
if I preach
not the
gospel!
for if willing
I do this, I have a reward ;
and
if unwillingly
--
with
a stewardship
I
have
been
entrusted!
For if I do this thing
willingly
, I have a reward :
but
if against
my
will,
a dispensation
of
the
gospel
is
committed
unto
me.
What ,
then,
is my reward? --
that proclaiming
good
news
, without
charge
I shall
make the good
news
of the
Christ, not
to
abuse my authority
in the good
news;
What is my reward then
? Verily
that, when
I preach
the
gospel,
I
may
make the gospel
of Christ without
charge
, that
I
abuse not
my power
in the gospel.
for being
free from all men, to
all
men
I made myself servant, that the
more
I might gain ;
For though
I
be
free from all men, yet
have
I made myself servant unto
all
, that I might gain the
more.
and I
became
to
the Jews as a Jew, that Jews
I might gain; to those
under law as under law, that those
under
law
I might gain;
And unto
the Jews I
became
as a Jew, that I might gain the
Jews
; to them
that
are
under the
law ,
as under the
law, that I might gain them
that
are
under
the
law
;
to those
without law, as without law --
( not
being without law to God, but within
law to Christ) --
that I might gain those
without law ;
To them
that
are
without law, as without law ,
(being not
without law to God, but under
the
law to Christ ,
) that I might gain them
that
are
without law .
I
became
to the infirm
as infirm
, that the
infirm
I might gain ;
to
all
men
I have
become
all things, that by all means I
may
save some.
To the weak
became
I
as weak
, that I might gain the
weak:
I am
made
all things to
all
men
, that I
might
by all means save some.
And this I do because
of
the good
news
, that a
fellow-partaker
of
it
I may
become;
And this I do for
the gospel's
sake
, that I might
be
partaker
thereof
with
you.
have
ye not known
that those
running
in a race --
all
indeed
run, but one doth
receive
the prize? so run ye
, that ye may obtain ;
Know
ye not that they
which
run
in a race run all
, but one receiveth
the prize? So run, that ye may obtain .
and every one
who
is
striving,
is in all things temperate;
these,
indeed,
then,
that
a corruptible crown they
may
receive,
but we an incorruptible ;
And every man
that
striveth
for
the
mastery
is temperate
in all things .
Now
they
do
it
to
obtain
a corruptible crown ;
but we an incorruptible .
I ,
therefore ,
thus
run, not as uncertainly ,
thus
I
fight, as
not beating
air ;
I therefore so
run, not as uncertainly ;
so
fight I
, not as
one
that
beateth
the
air :
but I chastise
my body, and bring `
it '
into servitude,
lest by any means, having
preached to others --
I myself may
become
disapproved
.
But I keep
under
my body, and bring it into subjection:
lest that
by any means, when
I
have
preached to others ,
I myself should
be
a
castaway
.
