Meanwhile,
Boaz went to the gate and sat down there .
Soon
the kinsman -redeemer
of whom he
had
spoken
came
along,
and
Boaz said, “Come
over
here
, my
friend
, and
sit down. ”
So
he went
over
and sat down.
Now
Boaz went up
to the gate ,
and sat him
down there :
and,
behold,
the near
kinsman of whom Boaz spake
came
by;
unto
whom
he
said, Ho
, such
a
one!
turn
aside
, sit down here
. And
he turned
aside,
and sat down.
Then
Boaz
took ten of the elders of the city and said, “
Sit here ,”
and they did
so
.
And
he
took ten men
of the elders of the city ,
and said, Sit ye
down
here .
And they sat
down
.
And he said to
the kinsman -redeemer
, “
Naomi, who
has
returned
from
the land
of Moab, is
selling
the piece
of land that
belonged
to
our brother Elimelech.
And he said unto
the near
kinsman, Naomi, that
is
come
again
out
of
the country
of Moab, selleth
the parcel
of land ,
which
was
our brother Elimelech's:
I thought I
should
inform
you
that
you
may
buy it back
in
the
presence
of
those
seated
here and in
the
presence
of
the elders of my people. If you
want
to
redeem it, do
so.
But if you
will
not redeem it, tell me so
I may know ,
because
there is no
one
but
you
to redeem it ,
and I am next
after you
. ”
“
I will redeem it ,”
he
replied
.
And
I thought to
disclose
it
unto
thee,
saying,
Buy it before
them
that
sit
here ,
and before
the elders of my people. If thou
wilt
redeem it, redeem
it:
but if thou
wilt
not redeem it, then
tell me ,
that
I may know ;
for
there is none
to redeem it besides
thee;
and I am after thee
. And
he
said,
I will redeem it.
Then Boaz
said, “On
the
day you
buy
the land
from
Naomi and
also from
Ruth the Moabitess, you
must
also
acquire
the widow
of the deceased
in
order
to raise up the name of the deceased
on
his inheritance. ”
Then said Boaz
, What
day thou
buyest
the field
of
the
hand
of
Naomi ,
thou
must
buy
it
also of
Ruth the Moabitess, the wife
of the dead,
to raise up the name of the dead
upon
his inheritance.
The kinsman -redeemer
replied
, “
I cannot redeem it myself, or
I would
jeopardize
my
own inheritance .
Take my right of redemption ,
because
I cannot redeem it. ”
And
the near
kinsman said
, I cannot redeem it for
myself, lest
I mar
mine
own inheritance :
take thou
my right of redemption on
thee;
for
I cannot redeem it.
Now in former times
in Israel ,
concerning the
redemption
or
exchange
of
property
, to make
any
matter
legally
binding
a man would
remove
his sandal
and give
it to the
other
party,
and this was a
confirmation
in Israel.
Now this
was
`the
custom'
in former time
in Israel concerning redeeming
and
concerning
exchanging
, to confirm
all
things:
a man drew
off
his shoe,
and gave
it to his
neighbor;
and this was the
`manner
of'
attestation
in Israel.
So the kinsman -redeemer
removed
his
sandal
and
said to
Boaz, “
Buy it for yourself
. ”
So the near
kinsman said unto
Boaz, Buy it for thyself
. And
he
drew
off
his
shoe.
At
this,
Boaz said to
the elders and all the people, “You
are witnesses today
that I am
buying
from
Naomi
all that belonged
to
Elimelech,
Chilion
, and Mahlon
.
And
Boaz said unto
the elders ,
and unto
all the people, Ye
are witnesses this
day,
that I have
bought
all that was
Elimelech's
, and all
that
was
Chilion's
and
Mahlon's,
of
the
hand
of
Naomi
.
Moreover ,
I
have
acquired
Ruth the Moabitess, Mahlon’s
widow
, as
my wife, to raise up the name of the deceased
through
his inheritance, so
that his
name will
not disappear
from among his brothers
or
from the gate of his home.
You
are witnesses today
. ”
Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the
wife
of
Mahlon
, have
I
purchased
to
be
my wife, to raise up the name of the dead
upon
his inheritance, that the
name of
the
dead
be
not cut
off
from among his brethren,
and
from the gate of his place:
ye
are witnesses this
day
.
“We
are
witnesses,”
said
the
elders
and all the people at
the gate .
“May
the LORD
make the woman entering
your
home
like Rachel and Leah, who
together
built
up
the house of Israel .
May
you
be
prosperous
in Ephrathah and famous in Bethlehem .
And all the people that
were
in
the gate ,
and
the elders,
said,
We
are
witnesses.
Jehovah
make the woman that
is
come
into
thy
house
like Rachel and like
Leah, which
two
did
build
the house of Israel :
and
do
thou
worthily
in Ephrathah ,
and be
famous in Bethlehem :
And may
your
house become
like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore
to
Judah, because
of the offspring
the
LORD
will
give you
by
this young woman. ”
and let
thy
house be
like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bare
unto
Judah, of the seed
which
Jehovah
shall
give thee
of
this young woman.
So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife .
And when
he had
relations
with
her, the
LORD
enabled
her to
conceive
, and she gave
birth
to
a son.
So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife ;
and he went
in
unto
her, and
Jehovah
gave
her conception
, and she bare
a son.
Then
the women said to
Naomi, “
Blessed be the
LORD
, who has
not left you
this day without a kinsman -redeemer.
May
his name become
famous in Israel.
And
the women said unto
Naomi, Blessed be Jehovah
, who hath
not left thee
this day without a near
kinsman ;
and
let
his name be
famous in Israel.
He will
renew
your
life and sustain
you
in
your
old age .
For your
daughter-in-law, who loves
you
and
is better to you
than seven sons, has
given
him birth
. ”
And
he shall
be
unto
thee
a
restorer
of
life ,
and a
nourisher
of
thine
old age ,
for thy
daughter-in-law, who loveth
thee,
who
is better to thee
than seven sons, hath
borne
him.
And Naomi took the child, placed
him
on
her lap
, and became a
nurse to
him
.
And Naomi took the child, and
laid
it
in
her bosom
, and became nurse unto
it
.
The neighbor
women said
, “
A son has
been
born to Naomi ,”
and they named
him
Obed .
He became
the father of Jesse, the father of David.
And
the women her
neighbors
gave
it
a
name
, saying,
There
is
a son born to Naomi ;
and they called
his
name
Obed :
he is
the father of Jesse, the father of David.
Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez was
the
father
of
Hezron,
Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez begat
Hezron,
Hezron was
the
father
of
Ram, Ram was
the
father
of
Amminadab,
and
Hezron begat
Ram, and
Ram begat
Amminadab,
Amminadab was
the
father
of
Nahshon, Nahshon was
the
father
of
Salmon,
and
Amminadab begat
Nahshon, and
Nahshon begat
Salmon,
Salmon was
the
father
of
Boaz, Boaz was
the
father
of
Obed,
and
Salmon begat
Boaz, and
Boaz begat
Obed,
Obed was
the
father
of
Jesse, and Jesse was
the
father
of
David.
and
Obed begat
Jesse, and Jesse begat
David.
