The burden of
Nineveh .
The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite .
This
is
the burden against
Nineveh ,
the book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite :
Jehovah
is a jealous God
and avengeth
; Jehovah
avengeth
and
is full of wrath ;
Jehovah
taketh
vengeance on his adversaries,
and he
reserveth
`
wrath '
for his enemies.
The
LORD
is a jealous and avenging
God
; the
LORD
is avenging
and
full of wrath .
The
LORD
takes
vengeance on His foes
and reserves
wrath for His enemies.
Jehovah
is slow to anger ,
and great in power ,
and
will by no means clear
`
the guilty ':
Jehovah
hath
his way
in the whirlwind and in
the
storm, and the
clouds are the dust of
his feet.
The
LORD
is slow to anger and great in power ;
the
LORD
will by no means leave
the guilty unpunished.
His path
is
in the whirlwind and storm, and clouds are the dust beneath
His feet.
He rebuketh
the sea ,
and maketh
it dry,
and
drieth
up all the rivers :
Bashan languisheth,
and Carmel ;
and the flower of Lebanon languisheth
.
He rebukes
the sea and dries
it up ;
He
makes
all the rivers run
dry.
Bashan and Carmel wither,
and the flower of Lebanon wilts
.
The mountains quake at
him, and the hills melt; and
the earth is
upheaved
at his presence ,
yea,
the world ,
and all that
dwell
therein
.
The mountains quake before
Him, and the hills melt away
; the earth trembles
at His presence —
the world and all its
dwellers
.
Who can stand
before
his indignation? and
who can abide
in
the
fierceness
of
his anger? his wrath is poured out like fire ,
and
the
rocks are broken
asunder
by
him.
Who can withstand
His indignation? Who can endure
His burning
anger? His wrath is poured out like fire ;
even
rocks are shattered
before
Him.
Jehovah
is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble
; and
he knoweth
them
that
take
refuge
in him.
The
LORD
is good, a stronghold in the day of distress
; He cares
for
those
who
trust
in Him.
But with an over-running
flood he will make a
full
end of her
place,
and will
pursue his enemies into darkness.
But with an overwhelming
flood He will make an
end of Nineveh
and pursue His enemies into darkness.
What
do
ye
devise
against Jehovah?
he will make
a
full
end ;
affliction shall
not rise up the
second time.
Whatever
you
plot
against the
LORD,
He will bring
to
an
end .
Affliction will
not rise up a
second time.
For entangled like
thorns,
and
drunken
as with their
drink,
they
are
consumed utterly
as
dry
stubble.
For they
will
be
entangled as with thorns
and
consumed like
the
drink
of
a
drunkard—
like
stubble that
is
fully
dry
.
There
is
one
gone
forth out
of thee,
that
deviseth
evil against Jehovah
, that
counselleth
wickedness.
From
you,
O
Nineveh,
comes
forth a
plotter
of evil against the
LORD
, a
counselor
of
wickedness.
Thus
saith
Jehovah
: Though they be
in
full
strength,
and likewise
many
, even
so
shall
they be cut down ,
and he
shall
pass away. Though I have afflicted thee
, I will afflict thee
no more
.
This
is
what
the
LORD
says
: “
Though they are
allied
and numerous
, yet
they will
be cut down and pass away. Though I have afflicted you
, O
Judah,
I will afflict you
no longer
.
And
now
will
I break his
yoke from off
thee,
and will
burst
thy
bonds
in
sunder
.
For
I will
now
break their
yoke from your
neck
and tear
away
your
shackles
. ”
And
Jehovah
hath
given
commandment
concerning thee
, that
no
more
of
thy
name
be
sown
: out
of
the
house
of
thy
gods
will I cut off the graven
image and the molten
image
; I will make
thy
grave ;
for thou
art
vile
.
The
LORD
has
issued
a
command
concerning you
, O
Nineveh
: “There
will be
no
descendants
to
carry
on
your
name.
I will
cut off the carved
image and cast
idol
from
the house
of
your
gods
; I will prepare
your
grave ,
for you
are
contemptible
. ”
Behold,
upon
the mountains the feet of him
that
bringeth
good tidings
, that
publisheth
peace! Keep
thy
feasts, O Judah ,
perform
thy
vows
; for the wicked one
shall
no
more
pass
through thee
; he
is
utterly cut off.
Look
to
the mountains —
the feet of one
who
brings
good news
, who
proclaims
peace! Celebrate
your
feasts, O Judah; fulfill
your
vows.
For the wicked will
never
again
march
through you
; they
will
be
utterly cut off.
