After
Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,
during
the time
of King
Herod, Magi
from the east arrived
in
Jerusalem,
Now
when
Jesus was born in Bethlehem of
Judaea
in the days
of Herod the
king
, behold,
Wise-men
from the east came
to
Jerusalem, saying,
asking,
“
Where is the
One
who
has
been
born King of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have
come to worship Him. ”
Where is he
that
is
born King of the Jews? for
we saw his star in the east ,
and are
come to worship him.
When King
Herod heard this
, he was disturbed
, and all Jerusalem with him.
And
when Herod the
king
heard it
, he was troubled
, and all Jerusalem with him.
And when
he
had
assembled
all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked
them where the Christ was
to
be born.
And gathering
together
all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired
of
them where the Christ should
be born.
“In
Bethlehem
in
Judea,”
they replied
, “
for this
is what
the prophet has
written:
And
they said
unto
him
, In
Bethlehem
of
Judaea:
for thus
it
is written
through
the prophet ,
‘But
you,
Bethlehem, in
the
land of Judah, are
by
no means
least among the rulers
of Judah ,
for out of you
will
come a ruler
who will
be the
shepherd of My people Israel. ’”
And
thou
Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art
in
no wise
least among the princes
of Judah :
For out of thee
shall
come forth
a governor,
Who shall
be shepherd of my people Israel.
Then Herod called the Magi
secretly
and learned from
them the
exact
time the star had
appeared.
Then Herod privily
called the Wise-men,
and learned of
them exactly
what
time the star appeared.
And sending
them to Bethlehem, he
said :
“
Go and search carefully
for
the Child ,
and when you
find
Him, report
to
me, so
that I too
may go
and worship Him. ”
And he
sent
them to Bethlehem, and
said ,
Go and search out
exactly
concerning
the young
child ;
and when ye
have
found
`
him, '
bring
me word
, that I also
may come
and worship him.
After
they had
heard the king, they
went on
their way ,
and the star they had
seen
in the east went ahead
of
them until
it stood over the
place
where the Child was.
And
they ,
having
heard the king, went their way ;
and lo,
the star ,
which
they saw
in the east ,
went before
them ,
till
it came
and
stood over where the young
child was.
When they saw the star, they rejoiced with great delight
.
And
when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding
great joy
.
On
coming
to
the house ,
they
saw the Child with His mother Mary,
and they fell down and worshiped
Him .
Then
they
opened
their treasures and
presented
Him with
gifts of
gold and frankincense and myrrh.
And
they
came
into
the house and
saw the young
child with Mary
his mother ;
and they fell down and worshipped
him ;
and
opening
their treasures they
offered
unto
him gifts ,
gold and frankincense and myrrh.
And having
been
warned in a dream not to
return to Herod, they withdrew
to
their country by
another route
.
And being
warned `of
God'
in a dream that
they
should
not return to Herod, they departed
into
their own
country another way
.
When the
Magi
had
gone
, an angel of the Lord appeared
to Joseph in a dream .
“Get
up!”
he
said.
“
Take the Child and His mother and flee to
Egypt .
Stay
there until I tell you,
for Herod is
going
to
search
for
the Child to kill
Him. ”
Now
when they
were
departed
, behold,
an angel of the Lord appeareth
to Joseph in a dream ,
saying,
Arise
and
take the young
child and his mother ,
and flee into
Egypt ,
and
be
thou
there until I tell thee:
for Herod will
seek
the young
child to destroy
him.
So
he got
up,
took the Child and His mother by night, and withdrew
to
Egypt ,
And
he arose
and
took the young
child and his mother by night, and departed
into
Egypt ;
where
he
stayed
until the death of Herod .
This
fulfilled what
the Lord had
spoken
through the prophet :
“
Out of Egypt I called
My Son. ”
and
was
there
until the death of Herod :
that
it
might
be
fulfilled which
was
spoken
by
the Lord through the prophet ,
saying,
Out of Egypt did
I call
my son.
When
Herod saw that he had
been
outwitted
by
the Magi
, he
was filled
with
rage.
Sending
orders
, he
put
to
death
all the boys
in Bethlehem and its
vicinity
who
were
two years old and under, according to the time he had learned from
the Magi
.
Then
Herod ,
when
he
saw that he was
mocked
of
the Wise-men
, was exceeding
wroth
, and
sent
forth,
and
slew
all the male
children
that
were
in Bethlehem ,
and in
all
the
borders
thereof,
from
two years old and under, according to the time which
he had exactly
learned of
the Wise-men
.
Then what
was spoken through the prophet Jeremiah
was
fulfilled:
Then was fulfilled
that
which
was
spoken through Jeremiah
the prophet ,
saying,
“
A voice is
heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children ,
and refusing
to
be comforted, because they are no
more
. ”
A voice was
heard in Ramah, Weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children ;
And she
would
not
be comforted, because they are not
.
After
Herod died
, an angel of the Lord appeared
in a dream to Joseph in Egypt .
But
when
Herod was
dead
, behold,
an angel of the Lord appeareth
in a dream to Joseph in Egypt ,
saying,
“Get
up!”
he
said.
“
Take the Child and His mother and go to
the land of Israel ,
for those
seeking
the
Child’s
life
are now
dead. ”
Arise
and
take the young
child and his mother ,
and go into
the land of Israel :
for they
are dead that
sought
the
young
child's
life
.
So
Joseph
got
up,
took the Child and His mother, and went
to
the land of Israel.
And
he
arose
and
took the young
child and his mother, and came
into
the land of Israel.
But when he learned
that Archelaus was reigning in
Judea
in place
of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there.
And having
been
warned in a dream, he withdrew to
the district
of Galilee,
But when he heard
that Archelaus was reigning over
Judaea
in the
room
of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither;
and being
warned `of
God'
in a dream, he withdrew into
the parts
of Galilee,
and he
went
and lived
in a town
called Nazareth .
So
was
fulfilled what
was spoken through the prophets :
“
He will
be called a Nazarene. ”
and came
and dwelt
in a city
called Nazareth ;
that
it
might
be
fulfilled which
was spoken through the prophets ,
that
he should
be called a Nazarene.
