Then there
come
to Jesus from Jerusalem Pharisees
and scribes,
saying
,
Then some
Pharisees
and
scribes
came
to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked
,
Why do thy
disciples transgress
the tradition of the elders? for
they wash
not their hands when
they eat bread
.
“
Why do Your
disciples break
the tradition of the elders? They do
not wash
their hands before
they eat. ”
And
he
answered
and
said
unto
them
, Why do ye
also
transgress
the commandment
of God because
of your tradition?
Jesus
replied
, “And
why do you
break
the command
of God for
the
sake
of your tradition?
For God said, Honor thy
father and thy
mother :
and ,
He
that
speaketh
evil
of
father or mother ,
let
him
die
the
death.
For God said, ‘
Honor your
father and mother ’
and ‘Anyone
who
curses
his
father or mother must
be
put
to
death. ’
But ye
say,
whosoever
shall
say to his father or his
mother, That
wherewith
thou
mightest
have been
profited
by
me is given
`
to God ';
But you
say that
if
anyone
says
to his father or mother, ‘Whatever
you
would
have received
from
me is a
gift
devoted
to God ,’
he shall
not honor his father. And
ye
have
made
void
the word of God because
of your tradition.
he need
not honor his father or
mother
with
it
. Thus
you
nullify
the word of God for
the
sake
of your tradition.
Ye
hypocrites ,
well
did
Isaiah prophesy
of
you ,
saying,
You
hypocrites !
Isaiah prophesied
correctly
about
you :
This
people honoreth
me with their lips ;
But their heart
is
far from me.
‘These
people honor
Me with their lips ,
but their hearts
are
far from Me.
But
in
vain
do
they worship me ,
Teaching
`
as their'
doctrines
the precepts of men.
They worship Me in
vain;
they
teach
as doctrine
the precepts of men. ’”
And
he
called to him the
multitude,
and said unto
them
, Hear,
and understand :
Jesus
called the
crowd
to Him and said, “Listen
and understand .
Not that
which
entereth
into
the
mouth defileth
the
man;
but that
which
proceedeth
out of the
mouth,
this
defileth
the
man
.
A
man
is
not defiled
by
what
enters
his
mouth ,
but by
what
comes
out of it
. ”
Then came
the disciples ,
and said unto
him
, Knowest
thou
that the Pharisees were offended ,
when they heard this saying
?
Then the disciples came
to
Him
and said, “Are
You
aware
that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this? ”
But he
answered
and
said
, Every plant which
my heavenly Father planted
not ,
shall
be rooted
up.
But Jesus
replied
, “
Every plant that
My heavenly Father has
not planted
will
be pulled
up by
its
roots
.
Let
them alone:
they are blind guides. And
if the
blind guide
the
blind, both shall
fall into a pit.
Disregard
them !
They are blind guides. If a
blind man
leads
a
blind man
, both will
fall into a pit. ”
And
Peter answered
and
said unto
him, Declare
unto
us
the
parable.
Peter said to
Him, “Explain
this
parable to
us
. ”
And
he
said,
Are
ye
also
even
yet
without
understanding
?
“Do
you
still
not
understand
? ”
Jesus
asked.
Perceive
ye
not ,
that whatsoever
goeth
into
the mouth passeth
into the belly,
and is cast
out
into
the
draught
?
“Do
you
not yet
realize
that whatever
enters
the mouth goes
into the stomach
and then
is eliminated
?
But the things which
proceed
out of the mouth come forth
out
of
the heart ;
and they
defile the
man.
But the things that
come
out of the mouth come from
the heart ,
and these
things
defile a
man.
For out of the heart come forth
evil thoughts, murders
, adulteries
, fornications
, thefts
, false witness
, railings:
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder
, adultery
, sexual
immorality
, theft
, false testimony
, and
slander.
these are the
things
which
defile the
man ;
but to
eat
with unwashen
hands defileth
not the
man
.
These are what
defile a
man ,
but eating
with unwashed
hands does
not defile
him
. ”
And
Jesus
went
out
thence
, and
withdrew into
the parts
of Tyre and Sidon.
Leaving
that
place
, Jesus
withdrew to
the district
of Tyre and Sidon.
And behold,
a Canaanitish
woman came out from
those
borders
, and
cried
, saying
, Have mercy on me ,
O
Lord,
thou
son
of
David;
my daughter is grievously
vexed
with
a demon.
And a Canaanite
woman from
that
region
came to
Him,
crying
out, “Lord
, Son
of
David
, have mercy on me !
My daughter is miserably
possessed
by
a demon. ”
But he
answered
her
not a word. And
his disciples came and besought
him, saying,
Send her away ;
for she crieth
after us.
But Jesus
did
not answer
a word. So
His disciples came and urged
Him, “
Send her away ,
for she keeps
crying
out
after us. ”
But
he answered and
said
, I was not
sent but
unto
the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
He answered, “
I was sent only
to
the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ”
But
she
came and worshipped
him ,
saying,
Lord, help me.
The
woman
came and knelt
before
Him .
“
Lord, help me !”
she
said
.
And
he
answered
and
said
, It is not meet
to take the children's
bread and cast
it to the dogs.
But
Jesus
replied
, “
It is not right
to take the children’s
bread and toss
it to the dogs. ”
But
she said, Yea,
Lord:
for
even the dogs eat of
the crumbs which
fall from their masters'
table.
“Yes,
Lord,”
she said, “
even the dogs eat the crumbs that
fall from their master’s
table. ”
Then
Jesus
answered
and
said
unto
her,
O woman, great
is
thy
faith :
be
it done unto
thee
even
as thou
wilt
. And her daughter was healed from that hour.
“
O woman, ”
Jesus
answered,
“your
faith is
great!
Let
it be
done for
you
as you
desire
. ”
And her daughter was healed from that very
hour.
And
Jesus
departed
thence
, and
came
nigh
unto
the sea of Galilee ;
and
he went up into
the
mountain ,
and sat there
.
Moving
on
from
there
, Jesus
went
along
the Sea of Galilee .
Then
He went up on
a
mountain and sat down
.
And
there
came unto
him great
multitudes
, having
with
them
the lame, blind, dumb
, maimed
, and many others, and they
cast
them down
at this
feet ;
and he healed them :
Large
crowds
came to
Him, bringing
the lame, the
blind, the
crippled
, the
mute
, and many others, and laid
them at His
feet ,
and He healed them .
insomuch
that
the multitude
wondered,
when they saw the dumb
speaking, the maimed
whole
, and
lame walking, and the blind seeing :
and they glorified the God of Israel.
The crowd
was
amazed
when they saw the mute
speaking, the crippled
restored
, the
lame walking, and the blind seeing .
And they glorified the God of Israel.
And
Jesus called unto
him
his disciples ,
and said, I have compassion on
the
multitude
, because they continue
with me now
three days and have nothing to eat :
and
I would
not send them away fasting
, lest
haply
they faint on
the way.
Then
Jesus called His disciples to
Him
and said, “
I have compassion for
this
crowd
, because they have
already
been
with Me three days and have nothing to eat .
I do
not want
to
send them away hungry
, or
they may
faint along
the way. ”
And
the disciples say
unto
him
, Whence
should
we
have
so
many
loaves
in a
desert
place as
to fill
so
great
a multitude
?
The disciples replied
, “Where
in this
desolate
place could
we
find
enough
bread
to feed
such
a large
crowd
? ”
And
Jesus
said
unto
them,
How many loaves have ye
? And
they
said,
Seven, and a few small fishes
.
“
How many loaves do
you
have? ”
Jesus
asked.
“
Seven, ”
they
replied,
“
and a few small fish
. ”
And he commanded
the multitude
to sit down on the ground ;
And He instructed
the crowd
to sit down on the ground .
and
he
took
the seven loaves and the fishes;
and
he gave thanks and brake,
and
gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes
.
Taking
the seven loaves and the fish,
He gave thanks and broke
them.
Then
He
gave them
to the disciples, and the disciples gave
them
to the people
.
And
they all ate ,
and were filled:
and they
took
up that
which
remained
over
of the
broken pieces ,
seven
baskets
full
.
They all ate and were satisfied,
and the
disciples
picked
up seven
basketfuls
of broken pieces that
were
left
over
.
And
they
that
did
eat
were
four thousand men, besides
women and children.
A
total
of
four thousand men were
fed
, in
addition
to
women and children.
And
he
sent
away
the multitudes
, and
entered
into the boat ,
and came
into
the borders
of Magadan.
After
Jesus
had
dismissed
the crowds
, He
got
into the boat and went
to
the region
of Magadan.
