calling
His twelve disciples to
Him
, Jesus
gave them authority over unclean spirits, so
that
they
could
drive
them out and heal every disease and sickness.
He
called
to
himself
his twelve disciples, and
gave them authority over unclean spirits, to
cast
them out ,
and to
heal every disease and every
sickness.
These
are
the names of the twelve apostles :
first Simon, called Peter, and
his brother Andrew
; James son of Zebedee, and
his brother John
;
Now
the names of the twelve apostles are
these.
The
first ,
Simon, who
is
called Peter ;
Andrew
, his brother; James the
son of Zebedee ;
John
, his brother;
Philip and
Bartholomew; Thomas and
Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus ,
and Thaddaeus;
Philip ;
Bartholomew; Thomas ;
Matthew the tax collector; James the
son of Alphaeus ;
and Lebbaeus,
whose
surname
was
Thaddaeus;
Simon the Zealot,
and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus
.
Simon the Canaanite;
and Judas Iscariot, who also
betrayed him
.
These
twelve
Jesus sent out with
the
following
instructions:
“Do
not
go onto
the
road
of
the Gentiles or
enter any town
of the Samaritans.
Jesus sent these
twelve
out ,
and
charged
them,
saying,
"Don't
go among
the Gentiles ,
and
don't
enter into
any city
of the Samaritans.
Go
rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
Rather ,
go
to the lost sheep of the
house
of
Israel.
As you go, preach this
message:
‘
The kingdom of heaven is near.’
As you go, preach ,
saying,
'
The Kingdom of Heaven is at
hand!'
Heal the sick, raise
the
dead,
cleanse the lepers, drive
out demons. Freely you have
received ;
freely give.
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and
cast
out demons. Freely you received ,
so
freely give.
Do
not
carry
any gold or
silver or
copper
in your belts.
Don't
take
any gold ,
nor
silver ,
nor
brass
in your money
belts.
Take no bag for the
road
, or
second
tunic
, or
sandals
, or
staff ;
for the worker
is worthy of his provisions
.
Take no bag for your
journey
, neither
two
coats
, nor
shoes
, nor
staff :
for the laborer
is worthy of his food
.
Whatever town
or village you enter, find out who is worthy there
and stay at
his
house
until you move
on.
Into
whatever city
or village you enter, find out who in
it
is worthy ;
and stay there
until you go
on.
As you enter the home
, greet its
occupants
.
As you enter into
the household
, greet it
.
If the home
is worthy, let your peace rest
on it ;
but if it is
not
, let your peace return to you.
If the household
is worthy, let your peace come
on it ,
but if it isn't
worthy
, let your peace return to you.
And
if
anyone
will
not
welcome
you or
heed
your words, shake the dust off
your feet when
you
leave
that
home
or
town
.
Whoever
doesn't
receive
you ,
nor
hear
your words, as
you
go
out
of
that
house
or
that
city,
shake off
the dust from
your feet.
Truly
I tell you, it will be more bearable
for Sodom and Gomorrah on
the day of judgment than for that town
.
Most
assuredly
I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for the
land
of
Sodom and Gomorrah in
the day of judgment than for that city
.
Behold, I am
sending
you out like
sheep among
wolves ;
therefore be as
shrewd
as snakes
and as
innocent
as doves.
"
Behold, I send
you out as
sheep in
the
midst
of
wolves .
Therefore be wise
as serpents,
and harmless
as doves.
But beware of men ;
for they will hand
you over
to their
councils and flog
you
in their synagogues.
But beware of men :
for they will deliver
you up
to councils ,
and in their synagogues they
will
scourge
you
.
On
My
account
, you will be brought before governors and kings as
witnesses
to them and to the Gentiles.
Yes
, and
you will be brought before governors and kings for
my
sake,
for
a
testimony
to them and to the Gentiles.
But when they hand
you over
, do
not
worry
about
how to
respond
or what to
say .
In that hour you will be
given
what
to
say.
But when they deliver
you up
, don't
be
anxious
how or what you
will
say ,
for
it
will
be
given
you
in that hour what
you will say.
For it will
not be
you speaking
, but the Spirit of your Father speaking
through
you.
For it is
not you who
speak
, but the Spirit of your Father who
speaks
in
you.
Brother will betray
brother to death, and a
father his child ;
children will rise against their
parents and have
them put to death.
"
Brother will deliver
up
brother to death, and the
father his child .
Children will rise up
against parents ,
and cause
them to
be
put to death.
You will be hated by everyone
because
of
My name
, but the
one
who perseveres
to the end will be saved.
You will be hated by all
men
for
my name's
sake
, but he
who endures
to the end will be saved.
When they persecute you in one
town
, flee to
the next .
Truly
I tell you, you will not reach
all
the towns
of Israel before
the Son of Man comes
.
But
when they persecute you in this
city
, flee into
the next ,
for
most
assuredly
I tell you, you will not have
gone
through
the cities
of Israel ,
until
the Son of Man has
come
.
A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master
.
"
A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord
.
It is enough for a
disciple to
be like his teacher, and a
servant like his master
. If the head
of the house has
been
called
Beelzebul, how much more the
members
of his household!
It is enough for the
disciple that
he
be like his teacher, and the
servant like his lord
. If they
have
called
the master
of the house Beelzebul, how much more those
of his household!
So
do
not
be afraid of them .
For there is nothing concealed
that will not be disclosed,
and nothing
hidden that will not be made
known.
Therefore
don't
be afraid of them ,
for there is nothing covered
that will not be revealed;
and hidden that will not be known.
What I tell you in the dark
, speak in the daylight
; what is
whispered in your
ear, proclaim from
the housetops.
What I tell you in the darkness
, speak in the light
; and
what you
hear
whispered in the
ear, proclaim on
the housetops.
Do
not
be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot
kill the soul. Instead
, fear the
One
who can
destroy both soul and body in hell
.
Don't
be afraid of those who kill the body ,
but are
not
able
to
kill the soul. Rather
, fear him
who is
able
to
destroy both soul and body in Gehenna
.
Are
not
two sparrows sold for a
penny
? Yet
not one of them will
fall
to
the ground apart from the
will
of
your Father.
"Aren't
two sparrows sold for an
assarion
? Not one of them falls
on
the ground apart from your Father's
will,
And
even
the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
but
the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
So
do
not
be afraid ;
you are worth
more than many sparrows.
Therefore
don't
be afraid .
You are of
more value
than many sparrows.
Therefore
everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him
before My Father in heaven.
Everyone therefore
who confesses me before men, him
I will also confess before my Father who
is
in heaven.
But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him
before My Father in heaven.
But whoever denies me before men, him
I will also deny before my Father who
is
in heaven.
Do
not
assume
that I have
come
to bring
peace to
the earth ;
I have
not
come to bring
peace, but a sword.
"Don't
think
that I came
to send
peace on
the earth .
I didn't
come to send
peace, but a sword.
For I have
come
to turn
‘
a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
For I came
to set
a man at
odds
against his father, and
a daughter against her mother, and
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
A man’s
enemies
will be the
members
of his own household. ’
A man's
foes
will be those
of his own household.
Anyone
who loves his
father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; anyone
who loves his
son or daughter more than Me is
not
worthy of Me ;
He
who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and
he
who loves son or daughter more than me isn't
worthy of me .
and
anyone
who does
not
take up
his cross and follow Me is
not
worthy of Me.
He
who doesn't
take his cross and follow after
me ,
isn't
worthy of me.
Whoever
finds his life will lose it ,
and whoever
loses his life for My sake will find it.
He
who
finds his life will lose it ;
and he
who
loses his life for my sake will find it.
He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives the
One
who sent Me.
He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him
who sent me.
Whoever
receives a prophet because
he
is
a prophet will receive a prophet’s
reward ,
and whoever
receives a righteous man because
he
is
a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s
reward.
He
who
receives a prophet in
the
name
of
a prophet will receive a prophet's
reward :
and he
who
receives a righteous man in
the
name
of
a righteous man will receive a righteous man's
reward.
And
if
anyone
gives even
a cup of cold water to one
of these
little
ones
because
he
is
My
disciple, truly
I tell you ,
he will never
lose his reward. ”
Whoever
gives one
of
these
little
ones
just
a cup of cold water to drink
in
the
name
of a
disciple, most
assuredly
I tell you he will in
no
way
lose his reward. "
