Then
the Pharisees and some
of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered
around
Jesus
,
And
there
are
gathered
together
unto
him
the Pharisees ,
and certain
of the scribes ,
who had come from Jerusalem,
and they
saw
some of His disciples eating
with hands
that
were
defiled —
that is, unwashed
.
and had
seen
that
some of his disciples ate
their
bread
with defiled ,
that is, unwashen,
hands
.
Now
in
holding
to
the
tradition
of
the
elders,
the Pharisees and all the Jews do
not
eat
until
they wash their hands ceremonially.
(For
the Pharisees ,
and all the Jews ,
except
they wash their hands diligently,
eat
not,
holding
the
tradition
of
the
elders;
And on
returning
from the market, they do
not
eat
unless
they wash.
And there
are
many other traditions
for
them
to observe
, including
the
washing
of cups, pitchers,
kettles
, and couches
for
dining
.
and `when
they
come'
from the market -place
, except
they bathe
themselves,
they eat
not;
and many other things
there
are,
which
they
have
received
to hold
, washings
of cups, and
pots
, and brasen
vessels
. )
So
the Pharisees and scribes questioned
Jesus:
“
Why do
Your
disciples
not
walk according to the tradition of the elders ?
Instead
, they
eat with defiled hands .”
And
the Pharisees and the
scribes ask
him,
Why walk not
thy
disciples
according to the tradition of the elders, but
eat their
bread
with defiled hands ?
Jesus
answered
them, “
Isaiah prophesied
correctly
about
you hypocrites, as it is written :
‘These
people honor
Me with their lips, but their hearts
are
far from Me.
And
he
said
unto
them, Well
did
Isaiah prophesy
of
you hypocrites, as it is written ,
This
people honoreth
me with their lips, But their heart
is
far from me.
They
worship
Me
in vain ;
they teach
as doctrine
the precepts of men. ’
But
in vain do
they worship
me,
Teaching
`
as their'
doctrines
the precepts of men.
You
have
disregarded
the commandment of God to
keep
the tradition of men. ”
Ye
leave
the commandment of God ,
and
hold
fast
the tradition of men.
He went
on
to
say
, “You
neatly
set
aside
the command
of God to
maintain
your own
tradition.
And
he said
unto
them
, Full
well
do
ye
reject
the commandment
of God ,
that
ye
may
keep
your tradition.
For Moses said, ‘
Honor your
father and your
mother ’
and ‘Anyone
who
curses
his
father or mother must
be
put
to
death .’
For Moses said, Honor thy
father and thy
mother ;
and ,
He
that
speaketh
evil
of
father or mother ,
let
him
die
the
death :
But you
say that
if a man says
to his father or mother, ‘Whatever
you
would
have received
from
me is Corban ’
(
that is, a
gift
devoted
to God ),
but ye
say ,
If a man shall
say
to his father or his
mother, That
wherewith
thou
mightest
have been
profited
by
me is Corban ,
that is to
say
, Given
`
to God ';
he
is
no longer permitted
to do anything
for his father or mother .
ye
no longer suffer
him
to do aught
for his father or his
mother ;
Thus
you
nullify
the word of God by the
tradition you
have handed
down.
And you
do
so
in
many such matters
. ”
making
void
the word of God by your
tradition ,
which
ye
have delivered:
and many such like
things
ye
do
.
Once
again
Jesus
called the
crowd
to Him and said, “
All of you, listen
to
Me
and understand:
And
he
called to him the
multitude
again,
and said unto
them
, Hear
me
all of you, and understand:
Nothing that
enters
a
man
from the outside
can defile him; but the things that
come
out of a
man ,
these
are what
defile him
. ”
there
is
nothing from without
the man,
that
going
into
him
can defile him; but the things which
proceed
out of the
man are those
that
defile the
man
.

After
Jesus
had
left
the
crowd
and gone
into the house, His disciples inquired
about
the parable.
And when
he
was
entered
into the house from
the
multitude
, his disciples asked
of
him
the parable.
“
Are you
still
so dull
? ”
He
asked.
“Do
you
not understand?
Nothing
that enters
a
man
from the outside
can
defile him ,
And
he
saith
unto
them,
Are ye
so without
understanding
also
? Perceive
ye
not ,
that whatsoever
from without
goeth
into
the man,
`it'
cannot
defile him ;
because it does
not enter
his heart, but it
goes
into the
stomach
and then
is
eliminated.”
(Thus
all foods
are
clean. )
because it goeth
not into
his heart, but into his
belly,
and goeth
out
into
the
draught?
`This
he
said',
making
all meats
clean.
He continued:
“What
comes
out of a
man, that is
what
defiles
him
.
And
he said,
That
which
proceedeth
out of the
man, that defileth
the
man
.
For from within the hearts
of men come
evil thoughts, sexual
immorality
, theft
, murder
, adultery
,
For from within ,
out
of
the heart
of men ,
evil thoughts proceed
, fornications
, thefts
, murders
, adulteries
,
greed
, wickedness
, deceit, debauchery
, envy
, slander
, arrogance
, and
foolishness .
covetings
, wickednesses
, deceit, lasciviousness
, an
evil
eye
, railing
, pride
, foolishness :
All these evils
come
from within, and these
are
what
defile a
man. ”
all these evil
things
proceed
from within, and defile the
man.
Jesus
left
that
place
and went to
the region
of Tyre. Not
wanting
anyone
to
know
He
was
there,
He entered a house, but
was
unable
to
escape
their
notice
.
And from
thence
he
arose,
and
went away
into
the borders
of Tyre and
Sidon
. And
he entered into
a house, and
would
have
no
man
know
it;
and
he
could
not
be
hid
.
Instead,
a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit soon
heard about
Jesus
, and
she
came and fell at His feet.
But
straightway
a woman ,
whose little daughter had an unclean spirit ,
having
heard of
him
, came and fell down
at his feet.
Now she
was a Greek woman
of
Syrophoenician
origin
, and she kept
asking
Jesus
to
drive
the demon out of her daughter.
Now the
woman
was a Greek, a
Syrophoenician
by
race.
And she besought
him
that
he
would
cast
forth
the demon out of her daughter.
“First
let the children have
their
fill,”
He
said.
“
For it is not right
to take the children’s
bread and toss
it to the dogs. ”
And
he
said
unto
her,
Let the children first
be
filled:
for it is not meet
to take the children's
bread and cast
it to the dogs.
“Yes,
Lord,”
she replied
, “
even the dogs under the table eat the children’s
crumbs. ”
But
she answered
and
saith
unto
him
, Yea,
Lord;
even the dogs under the table eat of
the children's
crumbs.
Then
Jesus
told
her, “Because
of
this answer,
you
may
go .
The demon has
left
your
daughter. ”
And
he
said
unto
her, For
this saying
go thy
way;
the demon is
gone
out
of
thy
daughter.
And she went home
and found her
child lying
on
the bed, and the demon was
gone.
And she went away
unto
her
house,
and found the
child laid
upon
the bed, and the demon gone out
.
Then
Jesus
left
the region
of Tyre and went
through Sidon to
the Sea of Galilee and
into
the region
of the Decapolis.
And
again
he
went
out
from
the borders
of Tyre ,
and came
through Sidon unto
the sea of Galilee ,
through
the midst
of the borders
of
Decapolis.
Some
people
brought
to
Him a
man
who
was deaf and
hardly
able
to
speak
, and they begged
Jesus
to place
His hand on
him.
And
they
bring
unto
him one
that
was deaf, and had
an
impediment
in
his
speech;
and
they beseech
him
to lay
his hand upon
him.
So
Jesus
took him aside privately,
away
from the crowd
, and put His fingers into the
man’s
ears .
Then
He spit
and touched the
man’s
tongue .
And
he
took him aside from the multitude
privately
, and put his fingers into his
ears ,
and
he spat,
and touched his
tongue ;
And looking up to heaven, He sighed deeply
and said
to
him, “
Ephphatha !”
(which
means
, “
Be opened !”)
.
and looking up to heaven, he sighed ,
and saith
unto
him, Ephphatha, that
is,
Be opened.
Immediately
the
man’s
ears were opened and his tongue was released
, and he began
to
speak
plainly
.
And
his
ears were opened ,
and the
bond
of
his tongue was loosed
, and he spake
plain
.
Jesus
ordered
them not
to
tell anyone.
But the more He ordered
them, the more widely
they proclaimed
it.
And
he
charged
them that
they
should
tell no
man:
but the more he charged
them, so
much
the more a
great
deal
they published
it.
The
people
were utterly
astonished and
said
, “
He has
done all things well !
He makes
even the deaf hear and the mute
speak !”
And
they
were beyond
measure
astonished, saying,
He hath
done all things well ;
he maketh
even the deaf to
hear ,
and the dumb
to
speak .
