And
they
came
over
unto
the other side of the sea, into
the country
of the Gadarenes
.
On
the other side of the sea, they
arrived
in
the region
of the Gerasenes
.
And
when
he
was
come
out of the ship
, immediately
there
met him
out
of
the
tombs
a man with an unclean spirit,
As
soon
as
Jesus
got
out of the boat
, He
was
met by
a man with an unclean spirit, who
was
coming
from
the
tombs.
Who
had his
dwelling
among
the tombs ;
and no
man
could bind
him,
no, not
with chains :
This
man
had been
living
in
the tombs and could no longer
be
restrained
, even
with chains .
Because
that
he had
been
often bound with fetters
and
chains ,
and the chains had
been
plucked
asunder
by
him,
and the fetters
broken
in
pieces:
neither
could
any
man
tame
him.
Though
he was
often bound with chains and shackles,
he
had
broken
the chains and shattered
the shackles.
Now
there
was
no
one
with
the
strength
to
subdue
him.
And
always,
night and day ,
he
was
in the mountains,
and in the tombs,
crying ,
and cutting himself with stones.
Night and day in the tombs
and in the mountains
he
kept
crying out
and cutting himself with stones.
But
when he
saw Jesus afar
off
, he ran and worshipped
him ,
When the
man
saw Jesus from
a
distance
, he ran and fell
on
his
knees
before
Him .
And cried
with
a loud voice, and
said,
What have
I
to
do with thee
, Jesus, thou
Son of the most high God? I adjure
thee
by
God ,
that
thou
torment
me
not .
And he
shouted
in
a loud voice, “
What do You
want
with me
, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg
You
before
God not to
torture
me!”
For he
said
unto
him
, Come out of the
man, thou
unclean spirit .
For Jesus
had
already
declared
, “
Come out of this
man, you
unclean spirit !”
And
he
asked
him,
What is thy
name? And
he
answered,
saying,
My name is Legion :
for we are many.
“
What is your
name? ”
Jesus
asked.
“
My name is Legion ,”
he
replied,
“
for we are many. ”
And he besought
him
much
that
he
would
not send them away
out of the
country
.
And he begged
Jesus
repeatedly
not to
send them out of that
region
.
Now
there was
there
nigh
unto
the mountains
a great
herd of swine
feeding.
There on
the nearby
hillside
a large
herd of pigs
was
feeding.
And
all
the devils
besought
him,
saying
, Send us into
the swine
, that we may enter into
them.
So
the demons
begged
Jesus
, “
Send us to
the pigs
, so
that we may enter them. ”
And
forthwith
Jesus
gave them leave.
And the unclean spirits went
out ,
and entered
into the swine:
and the herd ran
violently
down a
steep place
into the sea ,
(they
were
about
two
thousand;)
and were
choked
in the sea
.
He
gave them permission,
and the unclean spirits came
out and went
into the pigs,
and the herd of
about
two
thousand
rushed
down the
steep bank
into the sea and drowned
in the water
.
And
they
that
fed
the swine
fled,
and told
it
in the city
, and in
the country.
And
they
went out to see what it
was
that
was
done
.
Those
tending
the pigs
ran
off
and reported
this
in the town
and
countryside
, and the people
went out to see what had
happened
.
And
they come
to Jesus, and
see
him
that
was
possessed
with
the devil,
and
had the legion ,
sitting, and
clothed ,
and in his right mind :
and they were afraid.
When
they came
to Jesus, they
saw
the man
who
had been
possessed
by
the legion of
demons
sitting there
, clothed and in his right mind ;
and they were afraid.
And
they
that
saw
it
told
them
how
it befell
to him
that
was
possessed
with
the devil,
and also concerning
the swine
.
Those
who
had
seen
it described
what
had
happened
to the demon-possessed
man
and also to
the pigs
.
And they
began to pray
him
to depart
out
of
their coasts
.
And the
people
began to beg
Jesus
to leave
their region
.
And
when
he was come
into the ship
, he
that
had been possessed with
the devil
prayed
him
that
he
might
be
with him.
As
He was getting
into the boat
, the
man
who
had been possessed by
the demons
begged
to
go
with Him.
Howbeit
Jesus suffered
him
not ,
but
saith
unto
him ,
Go home to thy
friends
, and tell them how great
things
the Lord hath
done for thee
, and hath
had
compassion
on
thee
.
But
Jesus would
not allow
him .
“
Go home to your
own
people
, ”
He
said,
“
and tell them how much
the Lord has
done for you
, and what
mercy
He
has
shown
you
. ”
And
he
departed,
and began to publish
in
Decapolis how great
things
Jesus had done for him :
and all
men
did
marvel
.
So
the
man
went
away
and began to proclaim
throughout
the
Decapolis how much
Jesus had done for him .
And everyone
was
amazed
.
And
when Jesus was
passed
over
again by ship
unto
the other side, much
people
gathered unto
him :
and
he
was
nigh
unto
the sea.
When Jesus had
again crossed
by boat
to
the other side, a
large
crowd
gathered around
Him beside
the sea.
And,
behold,
there
cometh
one
of
the
rulers
of
the
synagogue ,
Jairus by
name;
and when
he
saw
him
, he fell at his feet ,
A
synagogue leader
named
Jairus arrived,
and seeing
Jesus
, he fell at His feet
And besought
him greatly,
saying
, My little daughter lieth
at
the
point
of
death :
I
pray
thee,
come and lay
thy
hands on her, that she may
be healed ;
and she
shall
live.
and pleaded
with
Him urgently
, “
My little daughter is
near
death .
Please
come and place
Your
hands on her, so
that she will
be healed and live. ”
And
Jesus went with him ;
and much
people
followed him,
and thronged
him.
So
Jesus went with him ,
and a
large
crowd
followed and pressed
around
Him.
And a certain
woman ,
which
had an
issue
of
blood
twelve years ,
And a woman was
there
who
had suffered
from
bleeding
for
twelve years .
And
had suffered
many
things
of many physicians ,
and had spent all that
she had, and
was
nothing
bettered,
but rather
grew
worse
,
She
had borne
much
agony
under
the
care
of many physicians and had spent all she had, but to
no
avail.
Instead
, her
condition
had
only
grown
worse.
When she
had
heard of
Jesus, came in
the press
behind ,
and touched his garment
.
When the
woman
heard about
Jesus, she
came up
through
the crowd
behind Him
and touched His cloak
.
For she said
, If I may
touch but
his clothes
, I shall
be whole
.
For she kept
saying
, “
If only
I touch His garments
, I will
be healed
. ”
And
straightway
the
fountain
of
her blood
was
dried
up;
and she felt
in her body that she was healed of that
plague
.
Immediately
her bleeding
stopped,
and she sensed
in her body that she was healed of her
affliction
.
And
Jesus ,
immediately
knowing
in
himself
that virtue
had gone out of
him,
turned
him about
in
the press
, and
said
, Who touched my clothes
?
At
once
Jesus was
aware
that power
had gone out from
Him .
Turning
to
the crowd
, He
asked
, “
Who touched My garments
? ”
And
his disciples said
unto
him
, Thou
seest
the multitude
thronging
thee
, and sayest
thou
, Who touched me?
His disciples answered
, “You
can
see
the crowd
pressing
in
on
You
, and yet
You
ask
, ‘
Who touched Me? ’”
And
he looked
round
about
to see her
that
had done this thing
.
But
He kept
looking
around
to see who
had done this.
But
the woman fearing
and
trembling
, knowing what was
done
in
her, came and fell down before him, and told him all
the truth.
Then
the woman, knowing what had
happened
to
her, came and fell down before Him trembling
in
fear
, and she
told Him the whole
truth.
And
he
said
unto
her,
Daughter, thy
faith hath
made
thee
whole;
go in peace ,
and be whole
of thy
plague
.
“
Daughter, ”
said
Jesus,
“your
faith has
healed
you.
Go in peace and be free
of your
affliction
. ”
While he yet
spake
, there
came
from the ruler
of
the
synagogue's
house certain
which
said, Thy
daughter is dead :
why troublest
thou
the Master
any
further
?
While He was
still
speaking
, messengers
from the house of
Jairus
arrived
and
said, “Your
daughter is dead ;
why bother
the Teacher
anymore
? ”
As
soon
as
Jesus heard
the
word
that
was
spoken,
he
saith
unto
the
ruler
of
the
synagogue
, Be
not afraid ,
only
believe.
But
Jesus overheard
their
conversation
and
said
to
Jairus
, “Do
not be
afraid ;
just
believe. ”
And he suffered
no
man
to follow
him ,
save
Peter, and
James, and John the brother of James.
And He did
not
allow
anyone
to accompany
Him except
Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
And
he
cometh
to
the house of the ruler
of
the
synagogue, and
seeth
the tumult,
and them
that
wept
and wailed
greatly
.
When
they
arrived
at
the house of the synagogue leader
, Jesus
saw
the commotion
and the
people
weeping
and wailing
loudly
.
And
when
he was
come
in,
he
saith
unto
them
, Why make
ye
this ado,
and weep
? the damsel
is not dead, but sleepeth
.
He went
inside
and
asked
, “
Why all
this commotion
and weeping
? The child
is not dead, but asleep
. ”
And they laughed him to
scorn
. But
when
he had put them all out
, he taketh
the father and the
mother of
the
damsel,
and them
that
were
with
him
, and entereth
in where
the damsel
was
lying
.
And they laughed at
Him. After
He had put them all outside
, He took
the child’s
father and mother and His
own
companions
, and went
in to
see
the child
.
And
he
took
the
damsel
by the hand, and
said unto
her
, Talitha cumi;
which is,
being
interpreted
, Damsel
, I say unto
thee
, arise.
Taking
her
by the hand, Jesus
said, “
Talitha koum!”
which means
, “Little
girl
, I say to
you
, get
up!”
And
straightway
the damsel
arose,
and walked;
for
she was of
the
age
of
twelve years .
And they were astonished
with
a
great
astonishment
.
Immediately
the girl
got
up
and began
to
walk
around.
She was twelve years old,
and at
once
they were utterly
astounded
.
And
he
charged
them
straitly
that no man
should know it;
and commanded
that
something
should
be
given
her to eat.
Then
Jesus
gave
strict
orders
that no one
should know about
this,
and He
told
them
to
give
her something
to eat.
