On
the other side of the sea, they
arrived
in
the region
of the Gerasenes
.
They
came
to
the other side of the sea, into
the country
of the Gadarenes
.
As
soon
as
Jesus
got
out of the boat, He
was
met by
a man with an unclean spirit, who
was
coming
from
the
tombs.
When
he
had
come
out of the boat, immediately
there
met him
out
of
the
tombs
a man with an unclean spirit,
This
man
had been
living
in the tombs and
could no
longer
be
restrained
, even with chains .
who
had his
dwelling
in the tombs .
Nobody
could bind
him
any
more
, not
even with chains ,
Though
he was
often bound with chains
and shackles
, he
had
broken
the chains and shattered
the shackles
. Now
there
was
no
one
with
the strength to subdue
him.
because
he had
been
often bound with fetters
and chains
, and
the chains had
been
torn
apart
by
him,
and the fetters
broken
in
pieces
. Nobody
had
the strength to tame
him.
Night and day in the tombs and in the mountains he kept
crying out and cutting himself with stones.
Always,
night and day ,
in the tombs and in the mountains ,
he was
crying out ,
and cutting himself with stones.
When the
man
saw Jesus from a
distance
, he ran and fell
on
his
knees
before
Him .
When he
saw Jesus from afar
, he ran and bowed
down
to
him ,
And he
shouted
in
a loud voice, “
What do You
want
with me
, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg
You before
God not
to
torture
me !”
and crying
out
with
a loud voice, he
said,
"
What have
I
to
do with you
, Jesus, you
Son of the Most High God? I adjure
you by
God ,
don't
torment
me ."
For Jesus
had
already
declared
, “
Come out of this
man, you unclean spirit! ”
For he
said
to
him
, "
Come out of the
man, you unclean spirit! "
“
What is your name? ”
Jesus
asked.
“
My name is Legion, ”
he
replied,
“
for we are many. ”
He
asked
him,
"
What is your name? "
He
said
to
him,
"
My name is Legion, for we are many. "
And
he begged Jesus
repeatedly
not to
send them out of that
region
.
He begged him
much
that
he
would
not send them away
out of the
country
.
There on the nearby
hillside
a large
herd of pigs was
feeding.
Now
there was
on the mountainside
a great
herd of pigs feeding.
So
the demons begged Jesus
, “
Send us to
the pigs, so
that we may enter them. ”
All
the demons begged him
, saying,
"
Send us into
the pigs, that we may enter into
them. "
He
gave them permission ,
and
the unclean spirits came out and went
into the pigs ,
and
the herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the water
.
At
once
Jesus
gave them permission .
The unclean spirits came out and entered
into the pigs .
The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea ,
and they
were
drowned in the sea
.
Those tending
the
pigs
ran
off
and reported
this
in the town
and
countryside,
and the people went
out
to see what had happened.
Those who
fed
them
fled,
and told
it
in the city
and in
the country.
The
people came
to see what it
was
that
had happened.
When
they came to Jesus, they
saw the
man
who had been possessed by the
legion
of
demons sitting there
, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
They came to Jesus, and
saw him
who had been possessed by demons sitting, clothed ,
and in his right mind ,
even
him
who
had
the
legion
; and they were afraid.
Those who had
seen
it described
what
had
happened to the
demon-
possessed man
and also
to
the pigs.
Those who saw
it declared
to
them
how
it
happened to him
who
was
possessed by
demons,
and about
the pigs.
And
the
people
began to beg Jesus
to leave
their region.
They
began to beg him
to depart
from
their region.
As He was getting
into the boat, the
man
who had been possessed by the
demons begged to
go
with Him.
As he was entering
into the boat, he
who had been possessed by demons begged him
that
he
might
be
with him.
But
Jesus
would
not
allow him .
“
Go home
to your own
people
, ”
He
said
, “
and tell them how
much
the Lord has done for you, and what
mercy
He has
shown
you. ”
He
didn't
allow him ,
but
said
to
him,
"
Go to your house
, to
your
friends
, and tell them what
great
things
the Lord has done for you, and how
he had
mercy
on
you. "
So
the
man
went away
and began to proclaim throughout
the
Decapolis how much
Jesus had done for him .
And everyone was
amazed
.
He
went his
way,
and began to proclaim in
Decapolis how Jesus had done great
things
for him ,
and everyone marveled
.
When Jesus had again
crossed by
boat to the other side, a large
crowd
gathered around
Him beside
the sea.
When Jesus had crossed back
over
in
the
boat to the other side, a great
multitude
was
gathered to
him ;
and
he
was
by
the sea.
A
synagogue leader
named
Jairus arrived
, and seeing Jesus
, he fell at His feet
Behold,
one
of
the
rulers
of
the
synagogue ,
Jairus by
name
, came;
and seeing him
, he fell at his feet ,
and pleaded
with
Him urgently
, “
My little daughter is near
death. Please come and place
Your hands on her, so
that she will
be healed
and live. ”
and begged
him much
, saying,
"
My little daughter is at
the
point
of
death. Please come and lay
your hands on her, that she may
be made
healthy,
and live. "
So
Jesus
went with him, and a large
crowd
followed and pressed around
Him.
He
went with him, and a great
multitude
followed him,
and they
pressed upon
him on
all
sides
.
And
a woman was
there
who had suffered
from
bleeding
for twelve years .
A certain
woman ,
who had an
issue
of
blood
for twelve years ,
She
had borne
much
agony
under
the
care
of
many physicians and had spent all she had, but
to
no avail.
Instead
, her
condition
had
only
grown
worse .
and
had suffered
many things
by
many
physicians ,
and had spent all that
she had, and
was
no better
, but
rather
grew
worse ,
When
the
woman
heard about
Jesus, she
came up through
the
crowd
behind Him and touched His cloak
.
having
heard the
things
concerning
Jesus, came up behind him in
the
crowd,
and touched his clothes
.
For she kept
saying
, “
If only
I touch His garments
, I will be healed
. ”
For she said
, "
If I just
touch his clothes
, I will be made
well
. "
Immediately her bleeding
stopped
, and she sensed
in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
Immediately the
flow
of
her blood
was
dried
up
, and she felt
in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
At
once
Jesus was
aware
that power had gone out from Him .
Turning
to
the crowd, He
asked, “
Who touched My garments
? ”
Immediately
Jesus ,
perceiving
in
himself
that the
power had gone out from him ,
turned
around
in
the crowd, and
asked, "
Who touched my clothes
? "
His disciples answered
, “
You can
see the crowd
pressing in
on
You, and yet
You ask
, ‘
Who touched Me? ’”
His disciples said
to
him
, "
You see the multitude
pressing against
you, and you say
, '
Who touched me? '"
But
He kept
looking
around to see who had done this.
He looked
around to see her
who had done this thing
.
Then
the woman, knowing what had happened
to her, came and fell down before Him trembling
in
fear
, and she
told Him the whole
truth.
But
the woman, fearing
and
trembling,
knowing what had been
done
to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all
the truth.
“Daughter,”
said Jesus
, “
your faith has healed
you. Go in peace and be free
of your affliction
. ”
He
said to
her
, "Daughter,
your faith has made
you well
. Go in peace ,
and be cured
of your disease
. "
While He was still speaking, messengers
from the house of
Jairus
arrived
and
said
, “
Your daughter is dead ;
why bother the Teacher anymore
? ”
While he was still speaking, they
came
from the synagogue
ruler's
house saying
, "
Your daughter is dead .
Why bother the Teacher any
more
? "
But Jesus overheard
their
conversation
and
said to Jairus
, “Do
not
be afraid ;
just
believe. ”
But Jesus ,
when
he
heard
the
message
spoken,
immediately
said to the
ruler
of
the
synagogue
, "Don't
be afraid ,
only
believe. "
And
He did
not
allow
anyone
to accompany
Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
He allowed
no
one
to follow
him ,
except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
When
they
arrived
at
the
house
of
the synagogue leader
, Jesus
saw
the
commotion
and the
people
weeping and wailing loudly
.
He
came
to
the synagogue ruler's
house
, and he
saw
an
uproar,
weeping ,
and great
wailing.
He went
inside
and
asked
, “
Why all
this
commotion
and weeping
? The child is not dead, but asleep. ”
When
he had
entered
in
, he
said
to
them,
"
Why do
you
make
an
uproar
and weep
? The child is not dead, but is
asleep. "
And
they laughed
at
Him. After
He had
put them all outside
, He
took the child’s
father and mother and His
own
companions
, and went in to
see
the child.
They ridiculed
him. But
he ,
having
put them all out
, took the father of
the
child
and her
mother and those
who
were
with
him
, and went in where
the child was
lying
.
Taking her
by the hand, Jesus
said, “
Talitha koum!”
which means, “Little
girl, I say
to
you, get up !”
Taking the
child
by the hand, he
said to
her
, "
Talitha cumi;"
which means, being
interpreted,
"
Girl, I tell
you, get up ."
Immediately the girl got
up and began
to
walk
around.
She was twelve years old ,
and
at
once
they were utterly
astounded
.
Immediately the girl rose
up ,
and walked,
for
she was twelve years old .
They were amazed
with
great
amazement
.
Then
Jesus
gave
strict
orders
that no one should know about
this, and He
told
them
to give
her something
to eat.
He
strictly
ordered
them
that no one should know this, and commanded
that
something
should
be
given
to her to eat.
