On
the other side of the sea, they
arrived
in
the region
of the Gerasenes.
And
they
came
to
the other side of the sea, into
the country
of the Gerasenes.
As
soon
as
Jesus
got
out of the boat, He
was
met by
a man with an unclean spirit, who
was
coming
from
the
tombs.
And
when
he
was
come
out of the boat, straightway
there
met him
out
of
the
tombs
a man with an unclean spirit,
This
man
had been
living
in the tombs and could no longer
be
restrained
, even
with chains.
who
had his
dwelling
in the tombs :
and no
man
could any
more
bind
him,
no, not
with a
chain;
Though
he was
often bound with chains
and shackles
, he
had
broken
the chains and shattered
the shackles.
Now
there
was
no one
with
the
strength to subdue
him.
because
that
he had
been
often bound with fetters
and chains
, and
the chains had
been
rent
asunder
by
him,
and the fetters
broken
in
pieces:
and
no man
had
strength to tame
him.
Night and day in the tombs and in the mountains he kept
crying out and cutting himself with stones.
And
always,
night and day ,
in the tombs and in the mountains ,
he was
crying out ,
and cutting himself with stones.
When the
man
saw Jesus from a
distance
, he ran and fell
on
his
knees
before
Him .
And
when he
saw Jesus from afar
, he ran and worshipped
him ;
And he
shouted
in
a loud voice, “
What do You
want
with me
, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg
You
before
God not
to
torture
me !”
and crying
out
with
a loud voice, he
saith,
What have
I
to
do with thee
, Jesus, thou
Son of the Most High God? I adjure
thee
by
God ,
torment
me not.
For Jesus
had
already
declared
, “
Come out
of
this
man
, you
unclean spirit !”
For he
said
unto
him
, Come forth
, thou
unclean spirit ,
out
of
the
man.
“
What is your
name? ”
Jesus
asked.
“
My name is Legion ,”
he
replied,
“
for we are many. ”
And
he
asked
him,
What is thy
name? And
he
saith
unto
him,
My name is Legion ;
for we are many.
And he begged
Jesus
repeatedly
not to
send them out of that
region
.
And he besought
him
much
that
he
would
not send them away
out of the
country
.
There on the nearby
hillside
a large
herd of pigs
was
feeding.
Now
there was
there
on the mountain
side
a great
herd of swine
feeding.
So
the
demons
begged
Jesus
, “
Send us to
the pigs
, so
that we may enter them. ”
And
they
besought
him
, saying,
Send us into
the swine
, that we may enter into
them.
He gave them permission,
and the unclean spirits came out and went
into the pigs,
and the herd of
about
two
thousand
rushed down the steep bank
into the sea and drowned in the water
.
And
he gave them leave.
And the unclean spirits came out ,
and entered
into the swine:
and the herd rushed down the steep into the sea ,
`in
number'
about
two
thousand;
and they
were
drowned in the sea
.
Those
tending
the
pigs
ran
off
and reported
this
in the town
and
countryside
, and the people
went
out
to see what had happened
.
And they
that
fed
them
fled,
and
told
it
in the city
, and in
the country.
And
they
came
to see what it
was
that
had come
to
pass
.
When
they came
to Jesus, they
saw
the
man
who
had
been
possessed by
the
legion
of
demons sitting there
, clothed and in his right mind ;
and they were afraid.
And
they come
to Jesus, and
behold
him
that
was
possessed with
demons sitting, clothed and in his right mind ,
`even'
him
that
had
the
legion:
and they were afraid.
Those
who
had
seen
it described
what
had
happened
to
the
demon-
possessed man
and also
to
the pigs
.
And
they
that
saw
it declared
unto
them
how
it
befell
him
that
was
possessed with
demons,
and concerning
the swine
.
And the
people
began to beg
Jesus
to leave
their region
.
And they
began to beseech
him
to depart
from
their borders
.
As He was getting
into the boat, the
man
who
had been possessed by
the
demons begged
to
go
with Him.
And
as he was entering
into the boat, he
that
had been possessed with
demons besought
him
that
he
might
be
with him.
But
Jesus
would
not allow
him .
“
Go home
to your
own
people,”
He
said
, “
and tell them how much
the Lord has
done for you
, and what
mercy
He has
shown
you
. ”
And
he
suffered
him
not ,
but
saith
unto
him ,
Go to thy
house
unto
thy
friends
, and tell them how great
things
the Lord hath
done for thee
, and `how'
he had
mercy
on
thee
.
So
the
man
went away
and began to proclaim
throughout
the
Decapolis how much
Jesus had done for him .
And everyone
was
amazed
.
And
he
went his
way,
and began to publish
in
Decapolis how great
things
Jesus had done for him :
and all
men
marvelled
.
When Jesus had again
crossed by
boat to
the other side, a large
crowd
gathered around
Him beside
the sea.
And
when Jesus had crossed over
again
in
the
boat unto
the other side, a great
multitude
was
gathered unto
him ;
and
he
was
by
the sea.
A
synagogue leader
named
Jairus
arrived
, and seeing Jesus
, he fell
at His feet
And
there
cometh
one
of
the
rulers
of
the
synagogue, Jairus
by
name;
and seeing him
, he falleth
at his feet ,
and pleaded
with
Him urgently
, “
My little daughter is near
death .
Please
come and place
Your
hands on her, so
that she will
be healed
and live. ”
and beseecheth
him much
, saying,
My little daughter is at
the
point
of
death :
`I
pray
thee',
that
thou
come and lay
thy
hands on her, that she may
be made
whole,
and live.
So
Jesus
went with him ,
and a large
crowd
followed and pressed
around
Him.
And
he
went with him ;
and a great
multitude
followed him,
and they
thronged
him.
And a woman was
there
who had suffered
from
bleeding
for
twelve years .
And a woman ,
who had an
issue
of
blood
twelve years ,
She
had borne
much
agony
under
the
care
of many physicians and had spent all she had, but
to
no
avail.
Instead
, her
condition
had
only
grown
worse .
and
had suffered
many
things
of many physicians ,
and had spent all that
she had, and
was
nothing
bettered
, but
rather
grew
worse ,
When
the
woman
heard about
Jesus, she
came up
through
the crowd behind Him
and touched His cloak
.
having
heard the
things
concerning
Jesus, came in
the crowd behind ,
and touched his garment
.
For she kept
saying
, “
If only
I touch His garments, I will
be healed
. ”
For she said
, If I touch but
his garments, I shall
be made
whole
.
Immediately
her bleeding
stopped,
and she sensed
in her body that she was healed of her affliction
.
And
straightway
the
fountain
of
her blood
was
dried
up;
and she felt
in her body that she was healed of her plague
.
At
once
Jesus was
aware
that power had gone out
from
Him .
Turning
to
the crowd, He
asked
, “
Who touched My garments? ”
And
straightway
Jesus ,
perceiving
in
himself
that the
power `proceeding'
from
him
had gone forth,
turned
him about
in
the crowd, and
said
, Who touched my garments?
His disciples answered
, “You
can
see
the crowd
pressing
in
on
You
, and yet
You
ask
, ‘
Who touched Me? ’”
And
his disciples said
unto
him
, Thou
seest
the multitude
thronging
thee
, and sayest
thou
, Who touched me?
But
He kept
looking
around
to see who
had done this.
And
he looked
round
about
to see her
that
had done this thing
.
Then
the woman, knowing what had happened
to her, came and fell down before Him trembling
in
fear
, and she
told Him the whole
truth.
But
the woman fearing
and
trembling
, knowing what had been
done
to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all
the truth.
“Daughter,”
said Jesus
, “your
faith has
healed
you.
Go in peace and be free
of your
affliction
. ”
And
he
said unto
her
, Daughter,
thy
faith hath
made
thee
whole;
go in peace ,
and be whole
of thy
plague
.
While He was
still
speaking
, messengers
from the house
of Jairus
arrived
and
said
, “Your
daughter is dead ;
why bother
the Teacher anymore
? ”
While he yet
spake
, they
come
from the ruler
of the
synagogue's
`house'
saying
, Thy
daughter is dead :
why troublest
thou
the Teacher any
further
?
But Jesus overheard
their
conversation
and
said
to
Jairus
, “Do
not be
afraid;
just
believe. ”
But Jesus, not heeding
the
word
spoken,
saith
unto
the
ruler
of
the
synagogue,
Fear
not,
only
believe.
And He did
not
allow
anyone
to accompany
Him except
Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
And he suffered
no
man
to follow
with
him ,
save
Peter, and
James, and John the brother of James.
When
they arrived
at
the house of the synagogue leader
, Jesus
saw
the
commotion
and the
people
weeping and wailing loudly
.
And
they come
to
the house of the ruler
of
the
synagogue ;
and
he
beholdeth
a
tumult
, and `many'
weeping and wailing greatly
.
He
went
inside
and asked
, “
Why all
this
commotion
and weeping
? The child is not dead, but asleep
. ”
And when
he
was
entered
in
, he
saith
unto
them,
Why make
ye
a
tumult,
and weep
? the child is not dead, but sleepeth
.
And they laughed at
Him. After
He had
put them all outside
, He
took
the child’s
father and mother and His
own
companions
, and went
in to
see
the child.
And they laughed him to
scorn
. But
he ,
having
put them all forth
, taketh
the father of
the
child
and her
mother and them
that
were
with
him
, and goeth
in where
the child was
.
Taking her
by the hand, Jesus
said
, “
Talitha koum!”
which means
, “Little
girl
, I say to
you
, get
up!”
And
taking the
child
by the hand, he
saith
unto
her
, Talitha cumi;
which is
, being
interpreted
, Damsel,
I say unto
thee
, Arise.
Immediately
the girl
got
up and began
to
walk
around.
She was twelve years old ,
and at
once
they were utterly
astounded
.
And
straightway
the damsel
rose
up ,
and walked;
for
she was twelve years old .
And they were amazed
straightway
with
a
great
amazement
.
Then
Jesus
gave
strict
orders
that no one
should know about
this ,
and He told
them
to
give
her
something to eat.
And
he
charged
them
much
that no man
should know this :
and he commanded
that
`
something '
should
be
given
her
to eat.
