Berean Standard Bible
And having
risen
thence,
he
doth
come
to
the coasts
of Judea, through
the
other
side
of
the Jordan ,
and
again do
multitudes
come
together
unto
him ,
and ,
as
he had
been
accustomed
, again
he
was teaching
them
.
Then
Jesus
left
that
place
and went
into
the region
of Judea, beyond
the Jordan .
Again the
crowds
came
to
Him and He taught
them
, as
was His
custom
.
And
the
Pharisees ,
having
come
near,
questioned
him ,
if
it
is lawful for a husband
to put
away
a
wife ,
tempting
him,
Some
Pharisees came
to
test
Him .
“
Is it
lawful for a man
to divorce
his
wife ?”
they
inquired.
and
he
answering
said
to
them,
`
What did Moses command you? '
“
What did Moses command you? ”
He
replied.
and
they said
, `
Moses suffered
to write a bill
of divorce ,
and to
put
away. '
They answered
, “
Moses permitted
a
man
to write his
wife
a certificate
of divorce and send
her
away. ”
And
Jesus answering
said
to
them, `
For the
stiffness
of your heart he
wrote
you
this
command,
But
Jesus told
them, “Moses
wrote
this
commandment
for you
because
of your hardness
of
heart .
but
from the beginning of the
creation, a
male and a
female God
did
make
them;
However,
from the beginning of creation, ‘God
made
them
male and female .’
on
this account
shall
a man leave his father and mother ,
and shall
cleave
unto
his wife,
‘For
this reason
a man will
leave his father and mother and be
united
to
his wife,
and they
shall
be
--
the two --
for
one flesh ;
so that
they are no more
two, but one flesh ;
and the two will
become
one flesh .’
So they are no longer
two, but one flesh .
what
therefore God did
join
together, let not
man put
asunder
. '
Therefore what
God has
joined
together, let man not
separate
. ”
And
in
the house again
his
disciples
of
the
same
thing
questioned
him
,
When
they
were
back
inside
the house, the
disciples
asked
Jesus
about
this
matter.
and
he saith
to
them, `
Whoever may
put
away
his wife ,
and may
marry
another ,
doth
commit
adultery against her ;
So
He told
them, “
Whoever divorces
his wife and marries
another woman
commits
adultery against her .
and if a woman may
put
away
her husband ,
and is
married
to
another, she committeth
adultery. '
And if a woman divorces
her husband and marries
another man
, she commits
adultery. ”
And
they
were bringing to him children,
that
he
might
touch
them, and the disciples were
rebuking
those bringing
them ,
Now
people
were bringing the
little
children
to Jesus
for
Him to
place
His
hands
on
them, and the disciples rebuked
those who
brought
them .
and
Jesus having
seen
, was much
displeased,
and he
said
to
them, `Suffer
the children to
come unto
me, and forbid
them
not ,
for of
such
is
the reign
of God ;
But
when
Jesus saw
this
, He
was indignant
and told
them, “Let
the little
children come to
Me, and do
not hinder
them!
For the kingdom
of God belongs
to
such
as
these.
verily
I say
to
you, whoever
may
not receive the reign
of God ,
as
a child --
he
may
not
enter into
it ;'
Truly
I tell
you, anyone
who
does
not receive the kingdom
of God like
a little
child will
never
enter it .”
and having
taken
them
in his arms, having
put
`
his '
hands upon
them, he
was
blessing
them.
And He
took
the
children
in His arms, placed
His hands on
them, and
blessed
them.
And
as he
is
going
forth
into
the
way, one
having
run
and having
kneeled
to
him,
was
questioning
him ,
`
Good teacher, what may
I do ,
that
life
age-during
I
may
inherit? '
As Jesus
started
on
His
way, a
man
ran
up
and knelt
before
Him .
“
Good Teacher, ”
he
asked,
“
what must
I do to
inherit eternal
life
? ”
And
Jesus
said
to
him,
`
Why me
dost
thou
call good? no one `
is '
good except One
--
God ;
“
Why do
you
call Me
good? ”
Jesus
replied.
“
No one is good except God alone.
the commands
thou
hast
known
: Thou
mayest
not commit adultery, Thou
mayest
do no
murder,
Thou
mayest
not steal, Thou
mayest
not bear false witness, Thou
mayest
not defraud
, Honour
thy
father and mother. '
You
know
the commandments
: ‘Do
not murder,
do
not
commit adultery, do not steal, do
not bear false witness, do
not cheat
others
, honor
your
father and mother. ’”
And
he
answering
said
to
him,
`
Teacher, all these did
I keep
from my youth. '
“
Teacher, ”
he
replied,
“
all these I have
kept
from my youth. ”
And
Jesus having
looked upon
him, did
love
him, and said to him, `
One thing thou
dost
lack ;
go away
, whatever
thou
hast
--
sell ,
and give to the poor, and thou
shalt
have treasure in heaven ,
and
come, be
following
me ,
having
taken
up
the
cross
. '
Jesus looked at
him, loved
him, and said to him, “There
is
one thing you
lack :
Go, sell everything
you
own
and give to the poor, and you
will
have treasure in heaven .
Then
come, follow
Me. ”
And
he
--
gloomy
at
the word
--
went away sorrowing
, for
he was
having
many
possessions
.
But
the man
was
saddened
by
these
words
and
went away in
sorrow
, because
he had
great
wealth
.
And
Jesus having
looked round,
saith
to his disciples, `
How hardly
shall
they
who
have
riches
enter into
the reign
of God! '
Then
Jesus looked around
and
said
to His disciples, “
How hard
it
is
for
the
rich
to
enter the kingdom
of God! ”
And the disciples were astonished
at his words ,
and
Jesus again
answering
saith
to them, `
Children, how hard is
it to
those
trusting
on
the
riches
to enter into
the reign
of God!
And the disciples were amazed
at His words .
But
Jesus said
to them again
, “
Children, how hard it is
to enter the kingdom
of God!
It is easier for a camel through the eye of the
needle to
enter,
than for a rich man to enter into
the reign
of God. '
It is easier for a camel to
pass
through the eye of a
needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom
of God. ”
And
they were astonished beyond
measure,
saying
unto
themselves,
`
And who
is
able
to be saved? '
They were even
more
astonished and said
to one
another,
“Who
then
can
be saved? ”
And
Jesus ,
having
looked upon
them ,
saith
, `
With men
it
is impossible, but not with God ;
for all things are possible with God. '
Jesus looked at
them and
said
, “
With man
this
is impossible, but not with God .
For all things are possible with God. ”
And
Peter began to say to him, `Lo
, we left all,
and we
followed thee
. '
Peter began to say to Him, “Look
, we have
left everything
and followed You
. ”
And
Jesus
answering
said,
`Verily
I say
to
you, there
is
no one who left house,
or brothers ,
or sisters ,
or father,
or
mother ,
or wife,
or children ,
or fields ,
for my sake ,
and for the good
news',
“Truly
I tell
you, ”
Jesus
replied,
“
no one who has
left home
or brothers or sisters or mother or father
or children or fields for My sake and for the gospel
who
may
not
receive an
hundredfold now
in this
time,
houses ,
and brothers ,
and sisters ,
and mothers ,
and children ,
and fields, with persecutions ,
and in the age that
is
coming
, life age-during;
will
fail
to
receive a
hundredfold in the
present
age—
houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, along
with persecutions —
and in the age to
come
, eternal
life .
and
many first shall
be last, and the last first. '
But
many who
are
first will
be last, and the last will
be
first. ”
And
they were in
the
way
going up to Jerusalem, and
Jesus was going
before
them ,
and
they
were amazed, and
following
they
were afraid. And
having
again taken
the twelve ,
he
began to tell them the
things
about
to happen to him ,
As
they were going up the
road
to Jerusalem, Jesus was walking
ahead
of
them .
The
disciples
were amazed, but
those
who
followed
were afraid. Again Jesus
took
the Twelve aside
and
began to tell them what
was
going
to happen to Him :
--
`Lo
, we go
up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man shall
be delivered to the chief priests ,
and to
the
scribes ,
and
they shall
condemn him to death ,
and shall
deliver him to the nations
,
“Look
, we are
going
up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will
be delivered over
to the chief priests and scribes .
They will
condemn Him to death and will
deliver Him over
to the Gentiles
,
and
they
shall
mock him ,
and scourge
him,
and
spit on him ,
and kill him ,
and the
third
day
he shall
rise again. '
who
will
mock Him and spit on Him and flog
Him
and
kill Him .
And after
three
days
He will
rise again. ”
And
there
come
near
to
him
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying
, `
Teacher, we wish
that
whatever
we
may
ask
for
ourselves,
thou
mayest
do for us ;'
Then
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came
to
Jesus
and
declared
, “
Teacher, we want
You
to
do for us whatever
we
ask.”
and
he
said
to
them,
`
What do ye
wish
me to do for you? '
“
What do you
want
Me to do for you? ”
He
inquired.
and
they said
to
him
, `
Grant to
us
that ,
one on
thy
right hand and one
on
thy
left ,
we
may
sit
in thy
glory ;'
They answered
, “
Grant that one of
us
may
sit
at
Your
right hand and the
other
at
Your
left in Your
glory .”
and
Jesus
said
to
them,
`Ye
have
not known
what ye
ask;
are ye
able
to
drink of
the cup that
I drink of
, and
with the baptism that
I am
baptized
with
--
to
be
baptized
? '
“You
do
not know
what you
are asking,”
Jesus
replied.
“Can
you
drink the cup I will
drink, or
be
baptized
with the baptism I will
undergo
? ”
And
they
said
to
him,
`
We are
able;'
and
Jesus
said
to
them
, `Of
the cup indeed
that I drink of
, ye
shall
drink
, and with the baptism that I am
baptized
with,
ye
shall
be
baptized;
“
We can
, ”
the brothers
answered.
“You
will
drink
the
cup that I drink, ”
Jesus
said
, “
and you
will
be
baptized
with the baptism that I undergo.
but to sit on
my right and
on
my
left ,
is not mine to give,
but
--
to those for whom it
hath
been prepared. '
But to sit at
My right or
left is not Mine to grant.
These
seats
belong
to those for whom they
have
been prepared. ”
And
the ten having
heard, began
to
be
much
displeased
at
James and John ,
When
the ten heard about
this
, they
became
indignant
with
James and John .
but
Jesus having
called them near,
saith
to
them
, `Ye
have
known
that they
who
are
considered
to
rule
the nations
do
exercise
lordship
over them, and their great
ones
do
exercise authority upon
them ;
So
Jesus called them together
and
said
, “You
know
that those
regarded
as
rulers
of
the Gentiles
lord
it
over them, and their superiors
exercise authority over
them .
but not
so
shall
it be among you ;
but
whoever may
will
to become great among you ,
he
shall
be your minister
,
But it shall
not
be this
way
among you .
Instead,
whoever wants
to become great among you must
be your servant
,
and whoever of
you
may
will
to become
first ,
he
shall
be servant
of all ;
and whoever wants
to be
first must
be the
slave
of all .
for even the Son of Man came
not to be ministered
to
, but to minister
, and to give his life a ransom for many. '
For even the Son of Man did
not come
to be served
, but to serve
, and to give His life as
a ransom for many. ”
And
they come
to Jericho ,
and as he
is
going
forth
from
Jericho,
with
his disciples and
a great
multitude
, a son of Timaeus --
Bartimaeus
the
blind
--
was sitting beside the way
begging,
Next,
they came
to Jericho .
And as Jesus
and
His disciples were
leaving
Jericho
with
a large
crowd
, a blind
beggar
named
Bartimaeus,
the
son of Timaeus ,
was sitting beside the road.
and
having
heard that it is
Jesus the
Nazarene
, he began to cry out, and
to
say
, `The
Son of David --
Jesus!
deal
kindly
with
me ;'
When
he
heard that it was
Jesus of
Nazareth
, he began to cry out, “Jesus
, Son of David ,
have
mercy
on
me !”
and
many were
rebuking
him ,
that
he
might
keep
silent, but the
more
abundantly
he cried out, `
Son of David, deal
kindly
with
me .'
Many people
admonished
him to
be
silent, but he cried out all
the
louder
, “
Son of David, have
mercy
on
me !”
And
Jesus having
stood
, he
commanded
him to
be
called,
and
they call
the blind man ,
saying
to
him,
`
Take courage ,
rise,
he doth
call
thee;'
Jesus stopped
and
said
, “Call
him .”
So
they called
the blind man .
“
Take courage !”
they
said.
“Get
up!
He is
calling
for
you.”
and
he,
having
cast
away
his garment,
having
risen
, did
come
unto
Jesus.
Throwing
off
his cloak
, Bartimaeus
jumped
up
and
came
to
Jesus.
And
answering,
Jesus
saith
to
him,
`
What wilt
thou
I
may
do to thee
? '
and
the blind man said
to
him
, `Rabboni,
that
I
may
see again ;'
“
What do you
want
Me
to do
for
you
? ”
Jesus
asked.
“Rabboni,”
said
the blind man, “let
me
see again .”
and
Jesus
said
to
him,
`
Go, thy
faith hath
saved
thee:'
and immediately he saw
again,
and was
following
Jesus in
the way
.
“
Go, ”
said
Jesus,
“your
faith has
healed
you.”
And immediately he received
his
sight
and followed
Jesus along
the road
.
