And
he
arose
from
thence
and cometh
into the borders
of Judaea
and
beyond the Jordan :
and
multitudes
come
together
unto
him
again ;
and ,
as
he was
wont,
he
taught them again
.
Then
Jesus
left
that
place
and went
into the region
of Judea,
beyond the Jordan .
Again the
crowds
came
to
Him
and He taught them ,
as
was
His
custom
.
And
there
came
unto
him
Pharisees ,
and
asked
him ,
Is it lawful for a man to put
away
`
his '
wife? trying
him
.
Some
Pharisees came
to
test
Him .
“
Is it lawful for a man to divorce
his wife? ”
they
inquired
.
And
he
answered
and
said
unto
them,
What did Moses command you?
“
What did Moses command you? ”
He
replied.
And
they said
, Moses suffered
to write a bill
of divorcement,
and to
put
her away.
They answered
, “
Moses permitted
a
man
to write his
wife
a certificate
of divorce
and send
her away. ”
But Jesus said
unto
them, For your hardness of heart he
wrote
you
this
commandment
.
But Jesus told
them, “Moses
wrote
this
commandment
for you
because
of
your hardness of heart.
But
from the beginning of the
creation, Male and female made
he
them
.
However,
from the beginning of creation, ‘God
made
them
male and female. ’
For this cause
shall
a man leave his father and mother ,
and shall
cleave
to his wife ;
‘
For this reason
a man will
leave his father and mother and be
united
to his wife ,
and the two shall
become one flesh :
so that
they are no more
two, but one flesh.
and the two will
become one flesh .’
So they are no longer
two, but one flesh.
What
therefore God hath
joined together, let not
man put
asunder
.
Therefore what
God has
joined together, let man not
separate
. ”
And
in
the house the disciples asked him
again
of
this matter.
When
they
were
back
inside
the house ,
the disciples asked Jesus
about
this matter.
And
he saith
unto
them, Whosoever
shall
put
away
his wife ,
and marry
another ,
committeth
adultery against her :
So
He told
them, “Whoever
divorces
his wife and marries
another woman
commits
adultery against her .
and if she
herself
shall
put
away
her husband ,
and marry
another, she committeth
adultery.
And if a
woman
divorces
her husband and marries
another man
, she commits
adultery. ”
And
they
were bringing unto
him
little children ,
that
he
should
touch
them :
and the disciples rebuked them.
Now
people
were bringing the
little children to
Jesus
for
Him
to
place
His
hands
on
them ,
and the disciples rebuked those
who
brought
them.
But when Jesus saw it
, he was moved
with
indignation,
and said
unto
them, Suffer
the little children to
come unto
me ;
forbid
them
not :
for to
such
belongeth
the kingdom of God.
But when Jesus saw this
, He was indignant
and told
them, “Let
the little children come to
Me ,
and
do
not hinder
them!
For the kingdom of God belongs
to
such
as
these
.
Verily
I say
unto
you, Whosoever
shall
not receive the kingdom of God as
a little child ,
he
shall
in
no
wise
enter therein
.
Truly
I tell
you, anyone
who
does
not receive the kingdom of God like
a little child will
never
enter it
. ”
And he took them
in his arms, and
blessed
them,
laying
his hands upon
them.
And He took the
children
in His arms, placed
His hands on
them ,
and
blessed
them
.
And
as he
was
going
forth
into
the
way, there
ran one
to
him,
and
kneeled
to
him,
and asked
him ,
Good Teacher, what shall
I do that
I
may
inherit eternal life?
As Jesus
started
on
His
way, a
man
ran up
and knelt
before
Him .
“
Good Teacher, ”
he
asked,
“
what must
I do to
inherit eternal life? ”
And
Jesus
said
unto
him,
Why callest
thou
me good? none
is good save
one,
`even'
God.
“
Why do
you
call
Me good? ”
Jesus
replied.
“No
one
is good except
God alone
.
Thou
knowest
the commandments ,
Do not kill
, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud
, Honor thy
father and mother.
You
know
the commandments :
‘
Do not murder
, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not cheat
others
, honor your
father and mother. ’”
And
he
said
unto
him,
Teacher, all these things
have
I observed
from my youth.
“
Teacher, ”
he
replied,
“
all these I have
kept
from my youth. ”
And
Jesus looking
upon
him loved him, and said unto
him, One thing thou
lackest
: go, sell whatsoever
thou
hast,
and give to the poor, and thou
shalt
have treasure in heaven :
and
come, follow me.
Jesus looked
at
him ,
loved him, and said to
him, “There
is
one thing you
lack
: Go, sell everything
you
own
and give to the poor, and you
will
have treasure in heaven .
Then
come, follow Me. ”
But his
countenance
fell
at
the saying,
and he
went away sorrowful:
for
he was
one
that
had great possessions
.
But the man
was
saddened
by
these
words
and went away in
sorrow,
because
he had great wealth
.
And
Jesus looked round
about,
and saith
unto
his disciples, How hardly
shall
they
that
have
riches
enter into
the kingdom of God!
Then
Jesus looked around
and said
to
His disciples, “
How hard
it
is
for
the
rich
to
enter the kingdom of God! ”
And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answereth
again,
and
saith
unto
them, Children, how hard is
it for
them
that
trust
in
riches
to enter into
the kingdom of God!
And the disciples were amazed at His words. But Jesus said
to
them again
, “
Children, how hard it is
to enter the kingdom of God!
It is easier for a camel to go
through a
needle's
eye ,
than for a rich man to enter into
the kingdom of God.
It is easier for a camel to pass
through the
eye of
a
needle
than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. ”
And
they were astonished exceedingly,
saying
unto
him
, Then
who can be saved?
They were even
more
astonished and
said
to
one
another
, “
Who then
can be saved? ”
Jesus looking
upon
them saith
, With men
it
is impossible, but not with God :
for all things are possible with God.
Jesus looked
at
them and
said
, “
With man
this
is impossible, but not with God .
For all things are possible with God. ”
Peter began to say unto
him, Lo
, we have left all,
and have
followed thee
.
Peter began to say to
Him, “Look
, we have left everything
and followed You
. ”
Jesus
said,
Verily
I say
unto
you, There
is
no man
that
hath
left house,
or brethren,
or sisters ,
or mother ,
or father ,
or children ,
or lands,
for my sake ,
and for the gospel's
sake,
“Truly
I tell
you, ”
Jesus
replied,
“
no one
who
has
left home
or brothers
or sisters or mother or father or children or fields
for My sake and for the gospel
but
he
shall
receive a hundredfold now
in this
time,
houses ,
and brethren,
and sisters ,
and mothers ,
and children ,
and lands
, with persecutions ;
and in the world
to come eternal life.
will
fail
to
receive a hundredfold in the
present
age—
houses and brothers
and sisters and mothers and children and fields
, along
with persecutions —
and in the age
to come ,
eternal life.
But many `that
are '
first shall
be last ;
and the last first.
But many who
are first will
be last ,
and the last will
be
first. ”
And
they were on
the
way,
going up to Jerusalem ;
and
Jesus was going
before
them :
and
they
were amazed ;
and
they
that
followed were afraid. And
he
took
again the twelve ,
and began to tell them the
things
that
were
to happen unto
him ,
As
they were going up the
road
to Jerusalem ,
Jesus was walking
ahead
of
them .
The
disciples
were amazed ,
but
those
who
followed were afraid. Again Jesus
took
the Twelve aside
and began to tell them what
was
going
to happen to
Him :
`saying',
Behold
, we go
up to Jerusalem ;
and the Son of man shall
be delivered unto
the chief priests and the
scribes ;
and
they shall
condemn him to death ,
and shall
deliver him unto
the Gentiles :
“Look
, we are
going
up to Jerusalem ,
and the Son of Man will
be delivered over
to
the chief priests and scribes .
They will
condemn Him to death and will
deliver Him over
to
the Gentiles ,
and
they
shall
mock him ,
and shall
spit upon
him ,
and shall
scourge
him ,
and shall
kill him ;
and after three days he shall
rise again.
who
will
mock Him and spit on
Him and flog
Him and kill Him .
And after three days He will
rise again. ”
And
there
come
near
unto
him
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, saying
unto
him
, Teacher, we would
that
thou
shouldest
do for us whatsoever
we shall
ask of
thee
.
Then
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came
to
Jesus
and
declared
, “
Teacher, we want
You
to
do for us whatever
we ask. ”
And
he
said
unto
them,
What would
ye
that
I
should
do for you?
“
What do you
want
Me
to
do
for you? ”
He
inquired.
And
they said
unto
him
, Grant unto
us
that we
may sit ,
one
on
thy
right hand ,
and one
on
`thy'
left hand,
in thy
glory.
They answered
, “
Grant that one
of
us
may sit at
Your
right hand and the
other
at
Your
left in Your
glory. ”
But
Jesus
said
unto
them,
Ye
know
not what ye
ask.
Are ye
able
to
drink the cup that
I drink ?
or to
be baptized with the baptism that
I am
baptized
with
?
“You
do
not know
what you
are asking,”
Jesus
replied.
“Can
you
drink the cup I will
drink ,
or be baptized with the baptism I will
undergo
? ”
And
they
said
unto
him,
We are
able.
And
Jesus
said
unto
them
, The cup that I drink ye
shall
drink;
and with the baptism that I am
baptized
withal
shall
ye
be
baptized:
“
We can
, ”
the brothers
answered.
“You
will
drink
the
cup that I drink ,”
Jesus
said,
“
and you
will
be
baptized
with the baptism that I undergo.
but to sit on
my right hand
or on
`my'
left hand
is not mine to give;
but
`it
is
for
them'
for whom it
hath
been prepared.
But to sit at
My right or left is not Mine to grant.
These
seats
belong
to
those
for whom they
have
been prepared. ”
And
when the ten heard it
, they began
to
be
moved
with indignation
concerning
James and John.
When the ten heard about
this
, they became
indignant
with James and John.
And
Jesus called them to
him,
and saith
unto
them
, Ye
know that they
who
are
accounted
to
rule
over
the Gentiles lord it over them ;
and their great
ones
exercise authority over them.
So
Jesus called them together
and said
, “You
know that those
regarded
as
rulers
of
the Gentiles lord it over them ,
and their superiors
exercise authority over them.
But it is
not so
among you :
but
whosoever
would
become great among you ,
shall
be your minister;
But it shall
not be
this
way
among you .
Instead,
whoever
wants
to
become great among you must
be your servant,
and whosoever
would
be first among
you,
shall
be servant
of all.
and whoever
wants
to
be first must
be the
slave
of all.
For the Son of man also
came
not to be ministered
unto
, but to minister
, and to give his life a ransom for many.
For even
the Son of Man did
not come
to be served
, but to serve
, and to give His life as
a ransom for many. ”
And
they come
to Jericho :
and as he
went
out
from
Jericho,
with
his disciples and
a great
multitude
, the son of Timaeus, Bartimaeus,
a
blind
beggar,
was sitting by
the way
side
.
Next,
they came
to Jericho .
And as Jesus
and
His disciples were
leaving
Jericho
with
a large
crowd
, a
blind
beggar
named
Bartimaeus,
the son of Timaeus, was sitting beside
the road
.
And
when he heard that it was Jesus the
Nazarene
, he began to cry out, and
say,
Jesus, thou
son of David, have mercy on me .
When he heard that it was Jesus of
Nazareth
, he began to cry out, “
Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me !”
And
many rebuked
him, that
he
should
hold
his
peace:
but he cried out the more
a
great
deal
, Thou
son of David, have mercy on me .
Many people
admonished
him to
be
silent
, but he cried out all
the louder
, “
Son of David, have mercy on me !”
And
Jesus stood
still,
and said, Call ye
him. And
they call
the blind man ,
saying
unto
him,
Be
of
good
cheer:
rise,
he calleth
thee
.
Jesus stopped
and said, “
Call him. ”
So
they called
the blind man .
“Take
courage!”
they
said.
“Get
up!
He is
calling
for
you
. ”
And
he,
casting
away
his garment
, sprang
up ,
and came to Jesus.
Throwing
off
his cloak
, Bartimaeus
jumped
up and came to Jesus.
And
Jesus
answered
him,
and
said,
What wilt
thou
that
I
should
do unto
thee
? And
the blind man said
unto
him
, Rabboni,
that
I
may
receive
my
sight
.
“
What do you
want
Me
to
do
for
you
? ”
Jesus
asked.
“Rabboni,”
said
the blind man, “let
me
see
again
. ”
And
Jesus
said unto
him
, Go
thy
way;
thy
faith hath
made
thee
whole
. And straightway
he received his sight ,
and followed him
in
the way
.
“Go,”
said Jesus
, “your
faith has
healed
you
. ”
And immediately
he received his sight and followed Jesus
along
the road
.
