Berean Standard Bible
It
happened
soon afterwards
, that
he
went
about
through
cities
and villages
, preaching and bringing
the good news of the Kingdom of God. With
him
were
the twelve,
Soon afterward
, Jesus
traveled
from
one
town
and village
to
another
, preaching and proclaiming
the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were
with
Him
,
and
certain
women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who
was
called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out ;
as
well
as
some
women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out ,
and
Joanna ,
the wife of Chuzas
, Herod's
steward;
Susanna ;
and many others ;
who
ministered
to them from
their possessions
.
Joanna the wife of Herod’s
household
manager
Chuza
, Susanna ,
and many others .
These
women
were
ministering
to them out
of
their own
means
.
When
a great
multitude
came
together,
and people from
every
city
were coming to him
, he spoke
by
a
parable .
While
a large
crowd
was
gathering
and people were coming to Jesus
from
town
after
town
, He told
them
this
parable :
"The
farmer went out to sow his seed. As he sowed
, some fell along the road
, and
it was trampled under
foot
, and the birds of the sky
devoured it.
“A
farmer went out to sow his seed. And
as he was
sowing
, some seed
fell along the path
, where
it was trampled, and the birds of the air
devoured it.
Other
seed
fell on the
rock
, and as
soon
as
it grew
, it
withered away,
because it
had no moisture.
Some
fell on rocky
ground
, and when
it came
up
, the
seedlings
withered because they
had no moisture.
Other fell amid
the
thorns, and
the
thorns
grew with it ,
and choked it
.
Other seed
fell among
thorns, which
grew up
with it and choked the
seedlings
.
Other fell into
the
good ground,
and
grew
, and brought
forth
fruit
one
hundred
times
. "
As he
said these
things
, he called out, "
He who has ears to hear, let him hear !"
Still
other seed
fell on
good soil
, where
it
sprang
up
and produced
a
crop—a
hundredfold
. ”
As Jesus
said this
, He called out, “
He who has ears to hear, let him hear .”
Then his disciples asked him ,
"
What does
this parable mean?"
Then His disciples asked Him what this parable meant.
He said
, "To
you
it
is
given
to
know
the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, but to the
rest
in parables ;
that '
seeing they may not see ,
and
hearing they may not understand. '
He replied
, “
The knowledge
of
the
mysteries of the kingdom of God has
been
given
to
you
, but to others
I
speak
in parables ,
so
that ,
‘though
seeing ,
they may not see ;
though
hearing ,
they may not understand. ’
Now the parable is
this
: The seed is the word of God.
Now this
is
the meaning
of
the
parable: The seed is the word of God.
Those
along the road
are those who hear, then
the devil comes ,
and takes away the word from their heart
, that they may not believe and be saved.
The
seeds
along the path
are those who hear, but
the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts
, so
that they may not believe and be saved.
Those
on
the rock
are they
who ,
when
they
hear ,
receive
the word with joy ;
but these
have no root ,
who
believe for a while
, then
fall
away
in time of temptation
.
The seeds
on
rocky
ground
are those
who hear the word and
receive
it
with joy ,
but they
have no root .
They
believe for a season
, but
in the
time of testing,
they
fall
away
.
That which
fell among the thorns ,
these
are those who have
heard
, and
as they go on their way they are choked with
cares
, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring
no
fruit to
maturity
.
The
seeds
that fell among the thorns are those who hear
, but
as they go on their way ,
they are choked by
the
worries
, riches, and pleasures of this
life, and their
fruit does
not
mature
.
That
in
the good ground,
these
are such
as
in
an
honest
and good heart, having
heard
the word, hold
it tightly
, and bring
forth
fruit
with
patience
.
But
the seeds
on
good soil
are those
with
a
noble
and good heart, who
hear
the word, cling
to
it, and by
persevering
produce
a
crop
.
"
No one ,
when
he
has
lit
a lamp ,
covers it with a container,
or puts it under a bed ;
but
puts
it on a stand, that
those who enter in
may
see the light.
No one lights
a lamp and
covers it with a jar
or puts it under a bed .
Instead,
he
sets
it on a stand, so
those who enter can
see the light.
For nothing
is hidden ,
that will not be revealed;
nor
anything
secret
, that will not be known and come
to light.
For there
is nothing
hidden that will not be disclosed
, and
nothing
concealed
that will not be made
known and brought
to light.
Be
careful
therefore how you hear
. For
whoever has ,
to
him
will be given ;
and
whoever doesn't
have, from
him
will
be
taken
away
even that
which
he thinks he has. "
Pay
attention,
therefore ,
to
how you listen
. Whoever has will be given more,
but
whoever does
not
have, even what
he thinks he has will
be
taken
away
from
him
. ”
His
mother and brothers came to him, and
they could
not
come
near
him for
the crowd.
Then
Jesus’
mother and brothers came to see
Him, but
they were
unable
to
reach
Him because
of
the crowd.
It
was told him
by
some
saying
, "
Your mother and your
brothers stand
outside, desiring
to see you. "
He
was told, “
Your mother and brothers are
standing
outside, wanting
to see You. ”
But he answered
them
, "
My mother and my
brothers are these
who hear the word of God ,
and do
it. "
But He replied
, “
My mother and brothers are those
who hear the word of God and carry
it out
. ”
Now
it
happened
on
one of
those
days,
that
he
entered
into
a
boat,
himself
and
his
disciples,
and
he
said to them
, "Let's
go
over
to the other side of the lake. "
So they
launched
out.
One day
Jesus
said to His
disciples
, “Let
us
cross
to the other side of the lake. ”
So He
got
into
a
boat
with
them
and
set
out.
But
as they sailed, he fell asleep .
A wind
storm
came down on the lake, and they were taking
on
dangerous
amounts
of
water
.
As they sailed, He fell asleep ,
and
a windstorm
came down on the lake, so
that
the
boat
was
being
swamped,
and they were in
great
danger
.
They
came
to
him,
and awoke
him, saying, "
Master, master, we are dying
! "
He
awoke,
and rebuked the wind and the raging of
the
water
, and they ceased
, and it
was calm.
The
disciples
went
and woke
Him, saying, “
Master, Master, we are perishing
! ”
Then
Jesus
got
up
and rebuked the wind and the raging waters
, and they subsided
, and all
was calm.
He
said
to
them,
"
Where is your faith? "
Being
afraid
they
marveled
, saying
one to
another, "
Who is this ,
then,
that
he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him ?"
“
Where is your faith? ”
He
asked.
Frightened
and
amazed
, they
asked
one another, “
Who is this ?
He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him !”
They arrived
at
the country
of the Gadarenes
, which
is
opposite
Galilee.
Then
they sailed
to
the region
of the Gerasenes
, across
the
lake
from
Galilee.
When Jesus stepped ashore, a certain
man out
of
the city
who
had
demons
for a long time met
him.
He
wore
no
clothes,
and
didn't
live
in a house, but in the tombs.
When Jesus stepped ashore, He
was
met
by
a demon-possessed
man from
the town.
For a long time this
man
had
not
worn
clothing
or
lived
in a house, but he
stayed
in the tombs.
When he
saw Jesus, he cried out ,
and fell down before him, and
with
a loud voice said
, "
What do I
have
to
do
with
you, Jesus, you
Son of the Most High God? I beg you ,
don't
torment
me! "
When the
man
saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, shouting
in
a loud voice, “
What do You want
with
me
, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You not
to
torture
me! ”
For Jesus was
commanding
the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For
the
unclean
spirit
had often
seized the
man.
He
was
kept
under
guard
, and bound with chains and fetters.
Breaking
the
bands
apart
, he was
driven by the demon into the
desert
.
For Jesus had
commanded
the unclean spirit to come out of the man. Many
times
it
had seized him
, and though
he
was
bound with chains and shackles
, he had
broken
the
chains
and
been
driven by the demon into solitary
places
.
Jesus
asked
him,
"
What is your name? "
He
said,
"
Legion, "
for
many demons had entered
into him.
“
What is your name? ”
Jesus
asked.
“
Legion, ”
he
replied,
because
many demons had gone
into him.
They
begged
him
that
he
would
not command
them to go into the abyss.
And
the
demons
kept
begging
Jesus
not to
order
them to go into the Abyss.
Now
there was
there
a herd of many
pigs feeding on
the mountain,
and
they
begged him
that
he
would
allow
them
to enter into
those.
He allowed
them.
There on
the
hillside
a large
herd of pigs was
feeding .
So
the demons
begged Jesus
to let
them
enter the
pigs,
and
He gave
them permission
.
The demons came out from
the man ,
and entered
into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake ,
and were
drowned.
Then
the demons came out of
the man and went
into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and was
drowned.
When those who
fed
them
saw what had happened, they fled,
and told
it
in the city
and in
the
country
.
When those tending
the
pigs
saw what had happened, they ran
off
and reported
this
in the town
and countryside
.
People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus ,
and found the man from
whom the demons had gone
out
, sitting at Jesus '
feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
So
the
people went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man whom the demons had left
, sitting at Jesus ’
feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
Those who saw
it told
them
how he
who
had been possessed
by
demons
was
healed.
Meanwhile,
those who had
seen
it reported
how the
demon-possessed
man
had been healed.
All the people of the surrounding
country
of the Gadarenes
asked him
to depart from them, for
they
were
very
much
afraid
. He entered
into the boat ,
and returned
.
Then
all the people of the region
of the Gerasenes
asked Jesus
to depart from them, because
great
fear
had
taken
hold
of
them
. So
He got
into the boat and started
back
.
But
the man from
whom the demons had gone
out
begged him
that
he
might
go with him,
but
Jesus sent him away, saying,
The man whom the demons had left
begged to
go with Jesus .
But
He
sent him away, saying,
"
Return to
your
house,
and declare
what
great
things
God has done for you. "
He
went his
way,
proclaiming
throughout
the whole
city
what
great
things
Jesus had done for him.
“
Return home
and describe
how
much
God has done for you. ”
So
the
man
went away
and
proclaimed
all
over
the town
how
much
Jesus had done for him.
It
happened,
when Jesus returned, that
the multitude
welcomed him, for they were
all waiting for him.
When Jesus returned, the crowd
welcomed Him, for they had
all been
waiting for Him.
Behold,
there
came
a man
named Jairus ,
and he
was
a
ruler
of
the
synagogue.
He
fell down
at Jesus '
feet ,
and
begged him to come into
his house,
Just
then
a synagogue
leader
named Jairus came
and fell at Jesus ’
feet .
He
begged Him to come to
his house,
for
he
had
an
only daughter, about twelve years
of
age
, and
she
was dying. But
as he
went, the multitudes
pressed against
him .
because
his
only daughter, who
was
about twelve, was dying. As Jesus
went with
him
, the crowds
pressed around
Him ,
A woman who had a
flow
of
blood
for twelve years ,
who
had spent all her living
on physicians, and
could
not
be
healed
by
any,
including
a woman who had suffered
from
bleeding
for twelve years .
She
had spent all her money
on physicians, but
no
one
was
able
to
heal
her.
came behind him,
and touched the fringe of his cloak, and immediately the
flow
of
her blood
stopped.
She
came up
behind Jesus
and touched the fringe of His cloak, and immediately her bleeding
stopped.
Jesus
said,
"
Who touched me? "
When
all denied it, Peter
and
those
with
him
said ,
"Master
, the multitudes
press
and
jostle
you,
and you say,
'Who
touched
me?'"
“
Who touched Me? ”
Jesus
asked.
But
they
all denied it .
“Master
, ”
said Peter
, “
the people
are
crowding
and pressing
against
You .”
But Jesus said
, "
Someone did
touch
me, for I perceived
that power has gone out of
me. "
But Jesus declared
, “
Someone touched
Me, for I know
that power has gone out from
Me. ”
When
the woman saw
that she was
not hidden
, she
came trembling ,
and falling
down before him declared
to
him
in the presence of all the people the
reason
why she had touched him ,
and how she was
healed
immediately.
Then
the woman ,
seeing
that she could
not escape
notice
, came trembling and fell
down before Him .
In the presence of all the people ,
she
explained
why she had touched Him and how she had
immediately been
healed
.
He
said
to
her,
"
Daughter, cheer
up.
Your faith has made
you well
. Go in peace. "
“
Daughter, ”
said
Jesus,
“
your faith has healed
you. Go in peace. ”
While he still spoke
, one
from the ruler
of the synagogue's
house
came,
saying
to
him,
"
Your daughter is dead. Don't
trouble
the Teacher. "
While He was
still speaking
, someone
arrived
from the house
of the synagogue
leader.
“
Your daughter is dead ,”
he
told
Jairus
. “Do
not
bother
the Teacher anymore
. ”
But Jesus hearing
it,
answered
him
, "Don't
be afraid .
Only
believe, and she will be healed. "
But Jesus overheard
them
and
said
to
Jairus
, “Do
not
be afraid ;
just
believe, and she will be healed. ”
When he came
to
the house, he didn't
allow anyone to enter
in ,
except Peter, John, James, the father of
the
child,
and her
mother.
When He entered
the house, He did
not
allow anyone to go
in with
Him
except Peter, John, James, and
the child’s
father and mother.
All
were
weeping and mourning her ,
but he
said, "Don't
weep.
She isn't
dead ,
but sleeping
. "
Meanwhile,
everyone
was
weeping and mourning for
her .
But Jesus
said, “Stop
weeping;
she is
not
dead but asleep
. ”
They were
ridiculing
him, knowing that she was dead.
And
they laughed
at
Him, knowing that she was dead.
But he
put
them
all
outside,
and
taking
her by the hand ,
he
called ,
saying
, "
Child, arise
! "
But Jesus
took
her by the hand and
called out
, “
Child, get
up
! ”
Her spirit returned, and she rose
up immediately
. He commanded
that something
be given to
her
to eat.
Her spirit returned, and at
once
she got
up. And
He directed
that she
be given something
to eat.
Her parents were amazed
, but he
charged
them to tell no
one
what had been
done
.
Her parents were astounded
, but Jesus
ordered
them not
to tell anyone
what had happened
.
