In the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while
Pontius Pilate was
governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
Now
in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being
governor of Judea, and
Herod being
tetrarch of Galilee, and
his brother Philip tetrarch of the
region
of
Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
during
the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah
in the wilderness.
in

the
son of Zacharias,
in the wilderness.
He went
into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a
baptism of repentance for the
forgiveness
of sins ,
He came

as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet :
“A
voice of one calling
in the wilderness, ‘Prepare
the way for
the Lord ,
make straight
paths for
Him
.

"The
voice of one crying
in the wilderness, 'Make
ready
the way of
the Lord .
Make his
paths straight
.
Every valley shall
be filled in,
and
every mountain and hill made
low. The crooked ways
shall
be
made
straight, and the rough ways smooth.
Every valley will
be filled .
Every mountain and hill will
be
brought
low. The crooked will
become
straight, And the rough ways smooth.
And
all humanity
will see God’s
salvation. ’”
All flesh
will see God's
salvation. '"
Then
John
said to the crowds
coming
out to be baptized by him, “
You brood
of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming
wrath?
He
said therefore
to the multitudes
who
went
out to be baptized by him, "
You offspring
of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to
come
?
Produce
fruit,
then,
in
keeping
with
repentance .
And do
not
begin to say to
yourselves, ‘
We have Abraham as
our father .’
For I tell you that out
of
these
stones
God can
raise up children for
Abraham .
Bring
forth
therefore
fruits
worthy
of
repentance ,
and don't
begin to say among
yourselves, '
We have Abraham for
our father ;'
for I tell you that God is
able
to
raise up children to
Abraham from
these
stones!
The axe lies ready
at the root of the trees ,
and
every tree that does
not
produce
good fruit will
be
cut down and thrown into the fire. ”
Even
now
the axe also
lies at the root of the trees .
Every tree therefore
that doesn't
bring
forth
good fruit is
cut down ,
and thrown into the fire. "
The crowds
asked him, “
What then should
we do? ”
The multitudes
asked him, "
What then must
we do? "
John
replied
, “Whoever
has two tunics
should
share
with
him who has none ,
and
whoever
has food should
do the
same
. ”
He
answered
them
, "He
who
has two coats,
let
him give
to
him
who has none .
He
who
has food ,
let
him
do likewise
. "
Even
tax collectors came to be baptized .
“Teacher
, ”
they asked
, “
what should
we do? ”
Tax collectors also
came to be baptized, and
they said
to
him
, "Teacher,
what must
we do? "
“
Collect no more than you are
authorized,”
he
answered
.
He
said
to
them,
"
Collect no more than that
which
is
appointed
to
you. "
Then
some
soldiers asked him, “And
what should
we do? ”
“Do
not
take
money
by
force
or
false
accusation,”
he said. “
Be content with your wages. ”
Soldiers also
asked him, saying,
"
What about
us?
What
must
we do? "
He said to
them,
"Extort
from
no
one
by
violence,
neither
accuse
anyone
wrongfully
. Be content with your wages. "
The people were waiting
expectantly
and were
all wondering
in their hearts if
John could
be
the Christ .
As
the people were in
expectation,
and all men
reasoned
in their hearts concerning
John ,
whether
perhaps
he
was
the Christ ,
John answered all
of
them :
“
I baptize you with water, but One
more
powerful
than I will
come
, the straps
of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie
. He will baptize you with
the Holy Spirit and with
fire .
John answered them all,
"
I indeed
baptize you with water, but he
comes
who
is
mightier
than I, the latchet
of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen
. He will baptize you in
the Holy Spirit and fire ,
His
winnowing
fork
is in His hand to
clear
His threshing floor and to
gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. ”

and
he
will
thoroughly
cleanse
his threshing floor ,
and will
gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. "
With these
and
many other exhortations ,
John
proclaimed
the
good news to the people .
Then
with many other exhortations he
preached
good news to the people ,
But when
he
rebuked
Herod the tetrarch regarding
his brother’s
wife Herodias
and all the evils
he
had done,
but Herod the tetrarch ,
being
reproved
by
him
for
Herodias,
his brother's
wife ,
and for
all the evil
things
which
Herod
had done,
Herod
added this to them all :
He locked
John
up in prison.
added this also
to them all ,
that
he shut
up John
in prison.
When all the people were being
baptized, Jesus was
baptized too.
And as
He
was praying ,
heaven
was opened,
Now
it
happened,
when all the people were baptized, Jesus also
had
been
baptized ,
and was praying .
The
sky
was opened,
and the Holy Spirit descended on
Him
in a bodily form like
a dove .
And a voice came from
heaven:
“
You are My beloved Son ;
in You I am well pleased. ”
and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as
a dove on
him;
and a voice came out
of
the
sky,
saying
"
You are my beloved Son .
In you I am well pleased. "
Jesus Himself was about thirty years old when
He
began
His
ministry.
He
was
regarded
as
the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,
Jesus himself ,
when
he
began
to
teach,
was about thirty years old ,
being
the son (as
was
supposed)
of Joseph, the son of Heli,
