Berean Standard Bible
But
on the first day of the week, at
early dawn
, they
and
some
others
came to the tomb, bringing the spices which
they had prepared.
On the first day of the week, very
early in
the
morning
, the
women
came to the tomb, bringing the spices they had prepared.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb .
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb ,
They entered in
, and
didn't
find the Lord Jesus '
body
.
but
when
they entered, they
did
not
find the body
of
the
Lord Jesus.
It
happened,
while they were greatly
perplexed
about
this, behold,
two men stood by
them in
dazzling
clothing
.
While they were puzzling
over
this, suddenly
two men in
radiant
apparel
stood beside
them.
Becoming
terrified,
they
bowed their faces down
to the earth.
They
said
to
them, "
Why do you seek
the living among the dead?
As
the
women
bowed their faces to the ground
in
terror,
the
two
men
asked
them, “
Why do you look
for
the living among the dead?
He isn't
here,
but
is risen .
Remember what
he told you when
he was still in Galilee ,
He is not
here;
He
has
risen !
Remember how
He told you while
He was still in Galilee :
saying
that
the Son of Man must be delivered up
into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again ?"
‘
The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on
the third day rise again .’”
They remembered his words ,
Then
they remembered His words .
returned from the tomb, and
told
all these things to the eleven ,
and to all the rest
.
And
when
they
returned from the tomb, they
reported
all these things to the Eleven and to all the others
.
Now
they
were
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and
Mary the mother of James .
The other women with them told these
things
to the apostles.
It
was
Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James ,
and
the other women with them who
told this
to the apostles.
These
words seemed to them to
be
nonsense
, and they didn't
believe them
.
But
their
words seemed like
nonsense
to them, and they did
not
believe the
women
.
But
Peter got up and ran to the tomb. Stooping
and looking
in,
he
saw
the strips
of
linen lying
by
themselves
, and
he departed
to
his
home
, wondering what had happened.
Peter ,
however,
got up and ran to the tomb. And after
bending
down
and
seeing
only
the linen cloths
, he went
away
, wondering to
himself
what had happened.
Behold,
two of them were going that
very
day
to a village named
Emmaus, which
was
sixty
stadia
from Jerusalem.
That
same
day
two of them were going to a village called
Emmaus, about
seven
miles
from Jerusalem.
They talked
with each other about all
of
these
things
which
had happened.
They were
talking
with each other about everything
that
had happened.
It
happened,
while
they talked and questioned
together
, that
Jesus himself came near,
and went
with them.
And
as
they talked and deliberated
, Jesus Himself came up
and walked
along
with them.
But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.
But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.
He said
to
them, "
What are you talking
about
as you walk ,
and
are
sad
? "
He asked
them, “
What are you discussing
so
intently
as you walk along
? ”
They
stood
still,
with
sadness
on
their
faces.
One of them, named Cleopas, answered
him, "
Are you the only stranger
in
Jerusalem who doesn't
know the things which
have happened there in these
days? "
One of them, named Cleopas, asked
Him, “
Are You the only visitor
to
Jerusalem who does
not
know the things that
have happened there in recent
days? ”
He
said
to
them,
"
What things? "
They
said
to
him,
"
The things
concerning
Jesus ,
the
Nazarene
, who
was a prophet mighty
in deed
and word
before God and all the people ;
“
What things? ”
He
asked.
“
The events
involving
Jesus of
Nazareth
, ”
they
answered.
“This
man
was a prophet ,
powerful
in speech
and action
before God and all the people .
and
how
the
chief priests and our
rulers delivered him up to be
condemned
to
death, and crucified him.
Our
chief priests and rulers delivered Him up to the
sentence
of
death, and they
crucified Him.
But we were hoping that
it
was
he who would redeem Israel. Yes,
and besides all this, it is now
the third day since these things happened
.
But we were hoping He was
the
One
who would redeem Israel. And besides all this, it is the third day since these things took
place
.
Also
, certain
women
of our company
amazed
us ,
having
arrived
early
at the tomb ;
Furthermore
, some
of our women
astounded
us .
They
were
at the tomb early
this
morning,
and
when
they didn't
find his body ,
they came saying
that
they had also
seen a vision of angels, who said that he
was alive.
but
they did
not
find His body .
They came and
told
us
they had seen a vision of angels, who said that Jesus
was alive.
Some of us
went to the tomb ,
and found it just like
the women had said,
but they didn't
see him
. "
Then
some of our
companions
went to the tomb and found it just as
the women had described.
But Him
they did
not
see. ”
He
said to them, "
Foolish men
, and
slow of
heart
to believe in
all that the prophets have spoken!
Then
Jesus
said to them, “O
foolish ones
, how
slow are
your
hearts
to believe all that the prophets have spoken!
Didn't
the Christ have
to suffer these things and to enter into
his glory? "
Was
it
not
necessary
for
the Christ to suffer these things and then
to enter His glory? ”
Beginning from
Moses and from
all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the
things
concerning
himself.
And
beginning with
Moses and all the Prophets, He explained to them what
was
written
in all the Scriptures about
Himself.
They drew
near
to
the village ,
where they were going
, and
he acted
like
he
would
go
further
.
As
they approached
the village where they were headed
, He seemed
to
be
going
farther
.
They urged
him, saying,
"
Stay with us, for it is almost
evening ,
and the day is almost over. "
He went in to stay with them.
But
they pleaded
with
Him, “
Stay with us, for it is nearly
evening and the day is almost over. ”
So
He went in to stay with them.
It
happened,
that
when
he had
sat
down
at the table with them, he took the
bread and gave
thanks.
Breaking
it, he
gave to them.
While
He was
reclining
at the table with them, He took bread ,
spoke
a
blessing
and broke
it, and
gave it
to them.
Their eyes were opened ,
and they recognized him,
and he vanished
out
of
their sight.
Then
their eyes were opened and they recognized Jesus—
and He disappeared
from
their sight.
They said
one
to
another
, "Weren't
our hearts burning within us ,
while
he spoke to
us along
the way,
and while
he
opened the Scriptures to us? "
They asked
each
other
, “Were
not
our hearts burning within us as
He spoke with
us on
the road
and opened the Scriptures to us? ”
They rose
up that very hour ,
returned to Jerusalem ,
and
found the eleven gathered
together,
and those who
were
with them,
And
they got
up that very hour and
returned to Jerusalem .
There
they
found the Eleven and those with them, gathered
together
saying, "
The Lord is
risen
indeed ,
and has appeared to Simon! "
and
saying, “
The Lord has
indeed risen
and has appeared to Simon! ”
They
related
the things
that
happened along
the way
, and how he
was
recognized by
them
in the breaking of the bread.
Then
the two
told
what
had
happened on
the road
, and how they
had
recognized Jesus
in the breaking of the bread.
As
they said
these things
, Jesus himself stood among them ,
and said to
them
, "
Peace be to
you. "
While
they were
describing
these events
, Jesus Himself stood among them and said, “
Peace be with
you. ”
But they were terrified
and filled
with
fear
, and
supposed
that
they had seen a spirit.
But they were startled
and frightened
, thinking
they had seen a spirit.
He
said
to
them,
"
Why are you troubled ?
Why do doubts arise in your hearts?
“
Why are you troubled ,”
Jesus
asked,
“and
why do doubts arise in your hearts?
See
my hands and my feet ,
that
it is truly
me
. Touch me and see ,
for a spirit doesn't
have flesh and bones, as you see that
I have. "
Look
at
My hands and My feet .
It is I
Myself
. Touch Me and see —
for a spirit does
not
have flesh and bones, as you see I have. ”
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his
feet.
And
when He had said this, He showed them His hands and feet.
While they still didn't
believe
for
joy ,
and wondered
, he said
to
them, "
Do you have anything here to eat? "
While they were
still in
disbelief
because
of
their
joy and amazement
, He asked
them, “
Do you have anything here to eat? ”
They gave him a piece of a
broiled fish and
some
honeycomb.
So
they gave Him a piece of broiled fish ,
He took them,
and ate in front of them.
and
He took it
and ate it
in front of them.
He
said to them, "This
is
what
I told
you ,
while I was still with you ,
that all
things
which
are
written in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms ,
concerning
me
must
be
fulfilled
. "
Jesus
said to them, “These
are
the
words
I spoke
to
you while I was still with you :
Everything
must
be
fulfilled
that is
written about
Me
in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms. ”
Then he opened their minds ,
that
they
might
understand the Scriptures.
Then He opened their minds to
understand the Scriptures.
He said
to
them, "Thus
it
is written ,
and
thus
it
was
necessary
for
the Christ to
suffer and to
rise from the dead the third day,
And
He told
them, “This
is what
is
written :
The Christ will
suffer and rise from the dead on
the third day,
and that
repentance and remission
of sins should
be preached
in
his
name
to all the
nations, beginning at
Jerusalem.
and in
His
name
repentance and forgiveness
of sins will
be proclaimed
to all nations, beginning in
Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.
You are witnesses of these things.
Behold, I send
forth
the promise of my Father on
you. But wait
in the city of
Jerusalem
until you are
clothed with power from on high. "
And
behold, I am
sending
the promise of My Father upon
you. But remain
in the city until you have
been
clothed with power from on high. ”
He
led them out as far as Bethany, and
he lifted up his hands ,
and blessed them.
When
Jesus
had
led them out as far as Bethany, He lifted up His hands and blessed them.
It
happened,
while he blessed
them, that
he withdrew
from
them ,
and was carried up into heaven.
While He was
blessing
them, He left
them and was carried up into heaven.
They worshiped him ,
and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
And
they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
and
were
continually in the temple ,
praising
and
blessing
God
. Amen.
praising
God
continually in the temple.
