Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover ,
was
approaching,
Now the feast of unleavened bread drew
nigh
, which
is
called the Passover .
and the chief priests and scribes were
looking
for
a
way
to
put Jesus
to death; for they feared the people.
And the chief priests and the
scribes sought
how
they
might
put him
to death; for they feared the people.
Then
Satan entered Judas Iscariot,
who was one
of the Twelve.
And
Satan entered into
Judas who was called
Iscariot,
being
of the number
of
the
twelve.
And Judas
went to
discuss
with the chief priests and temple
officers
how he might betray
Jesus
to
them.
And he
went away,
and
communed
with the chief priests and captains,
how he might deliver
him
unto
them.
They were delighted
and agreed
to give him money.
And
they were glad,
and covenanted
to give him money.
Judas
consented, and began
to
look
for
an
opportunity to betray
Jesus
to
them in the absence of a
crowd
.
And
he
consented, and sought
opportunity to deliver
him
unto
them in the absence of the
multitude
.
Then
came
the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb
was
to
be sacrificed.
And
the day of unleavened bread came,
on which the passover must
be sacrificed.
Jesus
sent Peter and John, saying, “
Go and prepare
for us to
eat
the Passover. ”
And
he
sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make
ready
for us the passover ,
that
we
may
eat
.
“
Where do
You
want
us
to
prepare
it
? ”
they
asked.
And
they
said
unto
him,
Where wilt
thou
that
we
make
ready
?
He answered
, “
When you
enter
the city, a man carrying
a jug
of water will
meet
you.
Follow him to
the house he enters,
And
he said
unto
them
, Behold,
when ye
are
entered
into
the city, there
shall
meet
you
a man bearing
a pitcher
of water ;
follow him into
the house whereinto
he goeth.
and say to
the owner
of that
house, ‘
The Teacher asks:
Where is the guest
room
, where I may
eat the Passover with My disciples? ’
And ye
shall
say unto
the master
of the
house, The Teacher saith
unto
thee,
Where is the guestchamber
, where I shall
eat the passover with my disciples?
And he will show you a large upper room ,
already
furnished .
Make
preparations
there. ”
And he will show you a large upper room furnished :
there make
ready
.
So
they went and found it
just
as Jesus
had told
them .
And they prepared
the Passover.
And
they went ,
and found as he
had said
unto
them :
and they made
ready
the passover.
When the hour had
come, Jesus
reclined
at
the table
with
His
apostles.
And
when the hour was
come, he
sat
down,
and
the apostles with
him
.
And He said to
them, “
I have eagerly
desired to eat this Passover with you before My
suffering.
And he said unto
them, With
desire
I have desired to eat this passover with you before I
suffer:
For I tell
you that
I will
not eat it again
until it is
fulfilled in the kingdom of God. ”
for I say
unto
you ,
I shall
not eat it ,
until it be
fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
After
taking
the
cup, He gave
thanks and
said, “
Take this and divide it among yourselves .
And
he
received
a
cup, and
when
he had
given
thanks ,
he
said, Take this ,
and divide it among yourselves :
For I tell
you that
I will
not drink of the fruit of the vine from
now
on
until the kingdom of God comes
. ”
for I say
unto
you ,
I shall
not drink from
henceforth
of the fruit of the vine ,
until the kingdom of God shall
come
.
And He took the
bread, gave
thanks
and broke
it, and gave it
to them, saying, “
This is My body ,
given for you ;
do
this in remembrance of Me. ”
And he took bread, and when
he
had
given
thanks,
he
brake
it, and gave to them, saying, This is my body which
is
given for you :
this do
in remembrance of me.
In
the same
way,
after supper He
took
the
cup
, saying, “
This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.
And
the cup
in
like
manner
after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in my blood, `even'
that
which is poured out for you.
Look!
The hand of My
betrayer
is with Mine
on the table.
But
behold,
the hand of him
that
betrayeth
me
is with me
on the table.
Indeed,
the Son of Man will
go
as it has
been determined ,
but woe to
that man who
betrays
Him.”
For
the Son of man indeed
goeth,
as it hath
been determined :
but woe unto
that man through
whom
he
is
betrayed!
Then
they began to question among themselves which of them was going
to
do this.
And
they began to question among themselves ,
which of them it
was that
should
do this thing
.
A
dispute
also
arose among the
disciples
as
to
which of them would
be considered
the
greatest.
And
there
arose also
a
contention
among them,
which of them was
accounted
to
be greatest.
So
Jesus
declared
, “
The kings of the Gentiles lord
it
over them ,
and those
in
authority over them call
themselves
benefactors.
And
he
said
unto
them
, The kings of the Gentiles have
lordship
over them ;
and they
that
have
authority over them are
called
Benefactors.
But you
shall not be like
them.
Instead,
the greatest
among you should
be
like
the
youngest
, and
the
one
who
leads
like
the one
who
serves
.
But ye
`
shall '
not `
be '
so:
but
he
that
is
the greater
among you, let
him
become
as
the younger;
and
he
that
is
chief,
as
he
that
doth
serve
.
For who
is greater, the
one
who
reclines
at the
table
or the
one
who
serves
? Is it
not the
one
who
reclines
? But I am among
you as one
who
serves
.
For which
is greater, he
that
sitteth
at meat,
or he
that
serveth
? is not he
that
sitteth
at
meat
? but I am in
the
midst
of
you as he
that
serveth
.
You
are the
ones
who
have stood
by
Me in My trials.
But
ye
are they
that
have continued
with
me in my temptations;
And I bestow
on
you a kingdom, just
as My Father has
bestowed
one
on
Me,
and I appoint
unto
you a kingdom, even
as my Father appointed
unto
me,
so
that you
may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom ,
and sit on thrones ,
judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
that ye
may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom ;
and ye
shall
sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
Simon, Simon, Satan has
asked to sift each
of
you like
wheat .
Simon, Simon, behold,
Satan asked to have
you,
that
he
might
sift you as
wheat :
But I have
prayed
for you,
Simon
, that your
faith will
not
fail .
And when you
have
turned back
, strengthen
your
brothers
. ”
but I made
supplication
for thee
, that thy
faith fail not;
and do
thou,
when once
thou
hast
turned again
, establish
thy
brethren
.
“Lord,”
said Peter
, “
I am ready to go with
You
even
to prison and to death. ”
And
he
said unto
him
, Lord,
with
thee
I am ready to go both
to prison and to death.
But
Jesus
replied
, “
I tell you
, Peter, the rooster
will
not crow today
until you
have
denied
three
times
that you
know
Me. ”
And
he
said
, I tell thee
, Peter, the cock
shall
not crow this
day,
until thou
shalt
thrice
deny
that thou
knowest
me.
Then
Jesus
asked
them, “
When I sent you out
without purse or
bag
or
sandals
, did
you
lack
anything? ”
“Nothing,”
they answered
.
And
he
said
unto
them, When I sent you forth
without purse, and
wallet,
and
shoes,
lacked
ye
anything? And
they said,
Nothing
.
“Now,
however,”
He told
them, “the
one
with
a purse should
take it, and likewise a bag
; and the
one
without
a
sword
should
sell his cloak and buy one
.
And
he said
unto
them, But
now,
he
that
hath
a purse ,
let
him
take it, and likewise a wallet
; and he
that
hath
none,
let
him
sell his cloak ,
and buy a
sword
.
For I tell
you that this Scripture
must be fulfilled in Me :
‘
And He was numbered
with the
transgressors .’
For what
is
written
about
Me is
reaching
its
fulfillment
. ”
For I say
unto
you ,
that this which
is
written
must be fulfilled in me ,
And he was reckoned
with transgressors :
for that
which
concerneth
me hath
fulfilment
.
So
they said, “Look,
Lord, here are two swords. ”
“That
is enough ,”
He
answered
.
And
they said, Lord, behold,
here are two swords. And
he
said
unto
them,
It
is enough.
Jesus
went
out as usual
to
the Mount of Olives ,
and the disciples followed Him.
And
he
came
out ,
and
went,
as his
custom
was,
unto
the mount of Olives ;
and the disciples also
followed him.
When He came
to
the place, He told
them, “
Pray that you
will
not
enter into temptation. ”
And
when he was
at
the place, he said
unto
them, Pray that ye
enter not
into temptation.
And He withdrew
about a stone’s
throw
beyond
them,
where
He knelt
down and prayed,
And he was
parted
from
them
about a stone's
cast;
and
he kneeled
down and prayed,
“
Father, if You
are
willing, take
this cup from Me .
Yet
not My will, but Yours
be done. ”
saying,
Father, if thou
be
willing, remove
this cup from me :
nevertheless
not my will, but thine,
be done.
Then
an angel from heaven appeared
to
Him
and
strengthened
Him.
And
there
appeared
unto
him
an angel from heaven ,
strengthening
him.
And in His
anguish,
He prayed more earnestly ,
and His sweat became like
drops of blood falling to
the ground.
And being
in an
agony
he prayed more earnestly ;
and his sweat became as
it
were
great
drops of blood falling down
upon
the ground.
When Jesus
rose from prayer and
returned
to
the disciples, He
found them asleep,
exhausted
from
sorrow .
And
when he
rose up
from his
prayer ,
he
came
unto
the disciples, and
found them sleeping
for
sorrow ,
“
Why are
you
sleeping
? ”
He
asked.
“Get
up
and pray so
that you
will
not
enter into temptation. ”
and
said
unto
them,
Why sleep
ye
? rise
and pray ,
that ye
enter not
into temptation.
While He was
still
speaking
, a crowd
arrived
, led
by
the
man
called Judas, one of the Twelve .
He approached
Jesus to kiss Him.
While he yet
spake
, behold,
a multitude
, and
he
that
was
called Judas, one of the twelve ,
went
before
them;
and
he drew
near
unto
Jesus to kiss him.
But Jesus asked
him, “
Judas, are
you
betraying
the Son of Man with a kiss? ”
But Jesus said
unto
him, Judas, betrayest
thou
the Son of man with a kiss?
Those
around
Jesus
saw what was
about
to
happen
and
said, “
Lord, should
we strike
with our
swords
? ”
And
when
they
that
were
about
him
saw what would
follow,
they
said, Lord, shall
we smite
with the
sword
?
And one of them struck
the servant of the high priest, cutting
off his right ear.
And a
certain
one of them smote
the servant of the high priest, and
struck
off his right ear.
But Jesus answered, “No
more
of
this!”
And He touched the
man’s
ear and healed him.
But Jesus answered and
said
, Suffer
ye
`them'
thus
far.
And he touched his
ear ,
and healed him.
Then
Jesus said to
the chief priests, temple officers
, and elders who
had
come for
Him, “Have
you
come out with swords and clubs
as
you
would
against
an
outlaw
?
And
Jesus said unto
the chief priests, and
captains
of
the
temple, and elders ,
that
were
come against
him, Are
ye
come out ,
as
against
a
robber,
with swords and staves
?
Every
day
I was with you in the temple courts
, and
you
did
not lay
a
hand
on
Me .
But this hour belongs
to
you
and to
the power of darkness. ”
When
I was daily
with you in the temple, ye
stretched
not forth
your
hands
against
me :
but this is
your
hour ,
and the power of darkness.
Then
they seized Jesus
, led Him away, and took
Him into the house
of
the
high priest
. And
Peter followed at
a
distance
.
And
they seized him
, and
led him `
away '
, and brought
him into the high priest's
house
. But
Peter followed afar
off
.
When those
present
had kindled a fire in the middle
of the courtyard
and sat down together, Peter sat down
among
them.
And
when they
had kindled a fire in the midst
of the court,
and had
sat down together, Peter sat in
the
midst
of
them.
A servant
girl
saw
him seated
in the firelight
and looked
intently
at
him .
“
This man also was with Him ,”
she
said
.
And
a certain
maid
seeing
him as
he
sat
in the light
`of
the
fire',
and looking
stedfastly
upon
him ,
said,
This man also was with him.
But Peter
denied it.
“
Woman, I do
not
know Him ,”
he
said
.
But he
denied ,
saying,
Woman, I know him not
.
A short
time
later,
someone
else
saw him and said, “You
also are
one of them. ”
But Peter said, “
Man, I am not. ”
And
after
a little
while
another
saw him ,
and said, Thou
also art
`
one '
of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.
About an
hour later,
another man
insisted
, “Certainly
this man was with Him ,
for he too
is a Galilean
. ”
And
after
the
space
of
about one
hour another confidently
affirmed
, saying,
Of
a
truth
this man also
was with him ;
for he is a Galilaean
.
“
Man, I do
not
know what you
are
talking
about,”
Peter
replied
. While he was
still
speaking
, the rooster
crowed
.
But
Peter
said,
Man, I know not
what thou
sayest
. And
immediately,
while he yet
spake
, the cock
crew
.
And the Lord turned and looked at
Peter. Then
Peter remembered the word that
the Lord had
spoken
to
him :
“
Before the rooster
crows
today,
you
will
deny Me three
times
. ”
And the Lord turned ,
and looked upon
Peter. And
Peter remembered the word of
the Lord ,
how
that
he
said
unto
him ,
Before the cock
crow
this
day
thou
shalt
deny me thrice
.
And he went outside
and wept bitterly.
And he went out,
and wept bitterly.
The men who
were
holding
Jesus began
to
mock
Him and beat Him.
And
the men that
held
`
Jesus '
mocked
him ,
and beat him.
They blindfolded Him and kept
demanding
, “
Prophesy !
Who hit
You
? ”
And
they blindfolded him ,
and asked
him
, saying,
Prophesy :
who is
he
that
struck
thee
?
And they
said
many other blasphemous
things against Him.
And many other things spake
they
against him ,
reviling
him
.
At
daybreak
the council
of the elders of the people, both the
chief priests and scribes ,
met
together.
They led Jesus
into their Sanhedrin
and
said
,
And
as
soon
as
it
was
day,
the assembly
of the elders of the people was
gathered
together
, both chief priests and scribes ;
and
they led him
away
into their council
, saying,
“
If You
are
the Christ, tell us. ”
Jesus
answered
, “
If I tell you, you
will not believe .
If thou
art
the Christ, tell us. But
he
said
unto
them
, If I tell you, ye
will not believe :
And if I ask you a
question
, you
will not answer.
and if I ask `
you '
, ye
will not answer.
But from now
on
the Son of Man will
be seated at the right hand of the power of God. ”
But from henceforth
shall
the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God.
So
they all asked
, “Are
You
then the Son of God? ”
He replied
, “You
say that I am. ”
And
they all said
, Art
thou
then the Son of God? And
he said
unto
them
, Ye
say that I am.
“Why
do
we
need any
more
testimony
? ”
they
declared.
“
We have heard it
for
ourselves
from His own lips
. ”
And
they
said,
What
further
need have
we
of
witness
? for
we ourselves
have heard from his own mouth
.
