Then
Jesus
told
them
a parable
about
their
need
to pray at
all
times
and not lose
heart:
And
he
spake
also
a simile
to them,
that
it
behoveth
`us'
always
to
pray ,
and not to
faint,
“In
a certain town
there
was a judge
who
neither
feared
God nor
respected
men.
saying,
`
A certain judge
was in
a certain
city
--
God he
is
not
fearing,
and
man
he
is
not
regarding
--
And there
was
a widow in that town
who
kept
appealing
to
him, ‘Give
me justice against
my adversary.’
and a widow was
in that city,
and
she
was
coming
unto
him, saying,
Do
me justice on
my opponent,
For a while
he
refused
, but later
he said to
himself, ‘Though
I neither
fear God
nor
respect
men
,
and
he
would
not
for a time
, but after
these
things
he said in
himself, Even
if
God
I do
not
fear, and
man
do
not
regard,
yet because this widow keeps
pestering
me, I will give
her justice .
Then
she will
stop
wearing
me out
with
her
perpetual
requests
. ’”
yet because this widow doth
give
me trouble
, I will do
her justice ,
lest,
perpetually
coming,
she may
plague
me. '
And the Lord said, “Listen
to
the
words
of
the unjust
judge .
And the Lord said, `Hear
ye
what
the unrighteous
judge saith:
Will
not God bring
about
justice for
His elect
who cry
out
to
Him day and night ?
Will
He
continue
to defer
their
help
?
and
shall
not God execute
the
justice to
His choice
ones,
who are
crying
unto
Him day and night --
bearing
long
in
regard
to them
?
I tell
you, He will promptly
carry
out
justice on
their
behalf.
Nevertheless,
when
the Son of Man comes
, will
He find faith on
earth? ”
I say
to
you, that
He will execute
the
justice to
them
quickly;
but
the Son of Man having
come
, shall
he find the
faith upon
the
earth? '
To
some
who trusted
in their
own
righteousness
and viewed
others
with
contempt
, He
also
told
this parable
:
And
he
spake
also
unto
certain
who have
been
trusting
in themselves
that
they
were
righteous,
and have
been
despising
the
rest
, this simile
:
“
Two men went up to the temple to pray .
One was
a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
`
Two men went up to the temple to pray ,
the
one a Pharisee ,
and the other a tax -gatherer;
The Pharisee stood by himself and
prayed
, ‘
God, I thank You
that I am not like
the other
men —swindlers
, evildoers
, adulterers —
or even like
this tax collector.
the Pharisee having
stood by himself, thus
prayed:
God, I thank Thee
that I am not as
the rest
of
men, rapacious
, unrighteous,
adulterers ,
or even as
this tax -gatherer;
I fast twice a
week and
pay
tithes of all that
I acquire
. ’
I fast twice in
the
week ,
I
give
tithes of all things
--
as
many
as
I possess
.
But
the tax collector
stood at
a
distance
, unwilling
even to
lift up his
eyes
to heaven .
Instead
, he
beat
his breast and
said
, ‘God
, have
mercy
on
me ,
a
sinner! ’
`And
the tax -gatherer,
having
stood afar
off
, would
not
even the
eyes
lift up to the
heaven, but
was
smiting
on
his breast, saying
, God
be
propitious
to
me --
the
sinner!
I tell
you, this man
, rather than the
Pharisee,
went
home
justified.
For everyone
who exalts
himself will
be humbled, but
the
one
who humbles
himself will
be exalted. ”
I say
to
you, this one
went
down
declared
righteous
, to
his
house,
rather than that
one:
for every
one
who is
exalting
himself shall
be humbled, and
he
who is
humbling
himself shall
be exalted. '
Now
people
were even
bringing their
babies
to
Jesus
for
Him
to
place
His
hands
on
them .
And when
the disciples saw
this,
they
rebuked
those
who
brought
them .
And
they
were bringing near
also
the
babes,
that
he
may
touch
them ,
and the disciples having
seen
did
rebuke
them ,
But
Jesus called the
children
to
Him
and
said, “Let
the little children come
to Me, and do
not
hinder
them !
For the kingdom
of God belongs
to
such
as
these.
and
Jesus having
called them
near,
said, `Suffer
the little children to come
unto
me, and forbid
them not,
for of
such
is
the reign
of God ;
Truly
I tell
you, anyone
who
does
not receive the kingdom
of God like
a little child will
never
enter it. ”
verily
I say
to
you, Whoever
may
not receive the reign
of God as
a little child ,
may
not
enter into
it. '
Then
a certain ruler asked
Him, “
Good Teacher, what must
I do
to
inherit eternal
life? ”
And
a certain ruler questioned
him, saying,
`
Good teacher, what having
done
--
shall
I inherit life age-during
? '
“
Why do
you
call
Me good? ”
Jesus
replied.
“
No one is good except God alone.
And
Jesus
said
to
him,
`
Why me dost
thou
call
good? no one `
is '
good ,
except One
--
God ;
You
know
the commandments
: ‘Do
not commit adultery, do not
murder, do
not steal, do
not bear false witness, honor
your
father and mother. ’”

All these I have
kept
from my youth ,”
he
said.
And
he
said,
`
All these I did
keep
from my youth ;'
On
hearing
this
, Jesus told
him, “You
still
lack
one thing :
Sell everything
you
own
and give
to the poor, and you
will
have treasure in heaven .
Then
come, follow
Me .”
and
having
heard
these
things
, Jesus said
to
him, `Yet
one thing to
thee
is
lacking;
all
things
--
as
many
as
thou
hast
--
sell ,
and distribute
to the poor, and thou
shalt
have treasure in heaven ,
and
come, be
following
me ;'
But
when
the
ruler
heard this
, he
became very sad
, because
he was extremely
wealthy
.
and
he,
having
heard these
things
, became very sorrowful
, for
he was exceeding
rich
.
Seeing
the
man’s
sadness,
Jesus said, “
How hard
it
is
for
the
rich
to
enter the kingdom
of God!
And
Jesus having
seen
him
become
very
sorrowful,
said, `
How hardly
shall
those
having
riches
enter into
the reign
of God!
Indeed,
it is easier for a camel to
pass
through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to
enter
the kingdom
of God. ”
for
it is easier for a camel through the eye of a needle to
enter,
than for a rich man into
the reign
of God to
enter
. '
Those who heard this
asked
, “
Who then
can
be saved? ”
And
those who heard, said,
`And
who is
able
to
be saved? '
But
Jesus
said, “What
is
impossible with man
is
possible with God. ”
and
he
said, `The
things
impossible with men
are
possible with God. '
“Look,”
said
Peter, “
we have
left all we
had
to
follow You.”
And
Peter said
, `Lo,
we left all ,
and
did
follow thee;'
“Truly
I tell
you, ”
Jesus
replied,
“no
one who has
left home
or wife
or brothers or parents
or children for the sake of the kingdom
of God
and
he
said
to
them,
`Verily
I say
to
you, that
there
is
not
one who left house,
or parents,
or brothers ,
or wife,
or children ,
for the sake of the reign
of God ,
will
fail
to
receive many
times
more in this age—
and in the age to
come
, eternal
life. ”
who
may
not
receive back
manifold
more in this time,
and in the coming
age, life age-during
. '
Then
Jesus
took
the Twelve aside and
said to
them, “Look
, we are
going
up to Jerusalem, and everything
the
prophets
have written about
the Son of Man will
be
fulfilled.
And
having
taken
the twelve aside ,
he
said unto
them, `Lo
, we go
up to Jerusalem, and all
things
shall
be
completed
--
that
have been
written through
the prophets
--
to
the
Son of Man ,
He will
be delivered over
to the Gentiles
and will
be mocked and insulted and spit upon .
for
he shall
be delivered up
to the nations,
and shall
be mocked ,
and insulted ,
and spit upon ,
They
will
flog
Him
and kill
Him, and on the third day He will
rise again. ”
and having
scourged
they
shall
put
him to
death
, and on the third day he shall
rise again. '
But
the
disciples
did
not
understand
any
of these things .
The
meaning
was hidden
from them, and they did
not comprehend
what
He
was
saying
.
And
they
none
of these things understood,
and
this
saying
was hid
from them, and they were
not knowing
the
things
said
.
As
Jesus
drew
near
to Jericho, a blind man was sitting beside the road,
begging .
And
it
came
to pass,
in
his
coming
nigh
to
Jericho, a certain
blind man was sitting beside the way
begging ,
When
he
heard the
crowd
going by, he asked
what
was happening.
and
having
heard a
multitude
going by, he was inquiring
what
this
may
be,
“
Jesus of
Nazareth
is
passing
by, ”
they
told
him.
and
they
brought
him
word
that
Jesus the
Nazarene
doth
pass
by,
So
he called
out, “
Jesus, Son of David, have
mercy
on
me !”
and
he cried
out, saying,
`
Jesus, Son of David, deal
kindly
with
me ;'
Those who
led
the
way
admonished
him to
be silent, but he cried
out all
the
louder
, “
Son of David, have
mercy
on
me !”
and
those going
before
were
rebuking
him ,
that
he
might
be silent, but he was
much
more
crying
out, `
Son of David, deal
kindly
with
me .'
Jesus
stopped
and directed
that
the
man
be brought to
Him .
When
he had
been
brought
near
, Jesus
asked
him,
And Jesus
having
stood,
commanded
him
to
be brought unto
him ,
and
he having
come
nigh
, he
questioned
him,
“
What do you
want
Me
to do
for
you
? ”
“Lord,”
he said, “let
me
see
again
. ”
saying,
`
What wilt
thou
I
shall
do to thee
? '
and
he said, `Sir,
that
I
may
receive
sight
. '
“
Receive your
sight !”
Jesus
replied.
“Your
faith has
healed
you.”
And
Jesus
said
to
him,
`
Receive thy
sight ;
thy
faith hath
saved
thee;'
Immediately
he received
his
sight and followed
Jesus
, glorifying God .
And all the people who
saw
this
gave
praise to God.
and
presently
he did
receive
sight ,
and was
following
him
, glorifying God ;
and all the people ,
having
seen,
did
give
praise to God.
