At
that
time
some of
those
present told Jesus
about
the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mixed
with their sacrifices.
Now
there
were
some present at
that
very
season
who
told him
of
the Galilaeans,
whose blood Pilate had mingled
with their sacrifices.
To
this
He replied
, “Do
you
think that these Galileans
were worse
sinners than
all the other
Galileans
, because they suffered this
fate
?
And
he answered
and
said
unto
them
, Think ye
that these Galilaeans
were sinners above
all the Galilaeans
, because they have
suffered these
things
?
No,
I tell you .
But unless
you
repent, you
too
will
all perish.
I tell you ,
Nay:
but ,
except
ye
repent, ye
shall
all in
like
manner
perish.
Or those eighteen who
were
killed
when
the tower of
Siloam collapsed
on
them :
Do
you
think that they were more
sinful
than
all the others
living
in Jerusalem?
Or those eighteen ,
upon
whom
the tower in
Siloam fell,
and
killed
them ,
think ye
that they were offenders
above
all the men
that
dwell
in Jerusalem?
No,
I tell you .
But unless
you
repent, you
too
will
all perish. ”
I tell you ,
Nay:
but ,
except
ye
repent, ye
shall
all likewise
perish.
Then
Jesus
told
this parable :
“
A man had a fig tree that
was
planted in his vineyard .
He went
to
look
for
fruit on
it
, but
did
not
find
any
.
And
he
spake
this parable ;
A certain
man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard ;
and
he came
seeking
fruit thereon
, and
found
none
.
So
he said to
the
keeper
of
the vineyard
, ‘Look
, for
the
past
three years I have
come to
search
for
fruit on this fig tree and haven’t
found
any.
Therefore
cut it down !
Why should
it use
up
the soil
? ’
And
he said unto
the vinedresser
, Behold
, these
three years I come seeking
fruit on this fig tree ,
and find
none:
cut it down ;
why doth
it also
cumber
the ground
?
‘Sir
, ’
the
man
replied
, ‘leave
it alone again
this year, until
I dig around
it and fertilize
it .
And
he
answering
saith
unto
him
, Lord
, let
it alone this year also
, till
I shall
dig about
it ,
and dung
it :
If it bears
fruit next
year
, fine.
But if not, you
can
cut it down. ’”
and
if it bear
fruit thenceforth
, `well';
but if not, thou
shalt
cut it down.
One
Sabbath
Jesus
was teaching in one of the synagogues ,
And
he
was teaching in one of the synagogues on
the
sabbath
day.
and a woman there
had been
disabled
by
a spirit for
eighteen years .
She was hunched
over
and could not
stand
up straight
.
And behold,
a woman that
had a spirit of
infirmity
eighteen years ;
and
she was bowed
together,
and could in
no
wise
lift
herself
up.
When Jesus saw her, He called her over
and said, “
Woman, you
are
set
free
from your
disability
. ”
And
when Jesus saw her, he called her ,
and said to
her
, Woman, thou
art
loosed
from thine
infirmity
.
Then
He placed
His hands on
her ,
and immediately she straightened
up
and began
to
glorify
God.
And
he laid
his hands upon
her :
and immediately she was
made
straight,
and glorified
God.
But
the synagogue leader
was
indignant
that
Jesus had healed on the Sabbath .
“
There are six days for
work ,”
he
told
the
crowd.
“So
come and be healed on
those
days
and not on the Sabbath. ”
And
the ruler
of
the
synagogue ,
being
moved
with
indignation
because
Jesus had healed on the sabbath ,
answered
and
said
to
the
multitude,
There are six days in
which
men
ought
to
work :
in
them
therefore
come and be healed ,
and not on the day
of
the
sabbath.
“You
hypocrites!”
the Lord replied.
“Does
not each of you on the Sabbath untie
his ox or donkey
from the stall and lead it
to water
?
But
the Lord answered
him,
and
said,
Ye
hypocrites,
doth
not each one
of you on the sabbath loose
his ox or his
ass
from the stall ,
and lead him
away
to watering
?
Then
should
not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has
kept
bound for
eighteen long
years, be
released
from her
bondage
on the Sabbath
day? ”
And
ought
not this woman,
being
a
daughter of Abraham, whom Satan had
bound ,
lo,
`these'
eighteen years, to
have
been
loosed
from this
bond
on the day of
the
sabbath
?
When
Jesus
said this
, all His adversaries were humiliated.
And the whole
crowd
rejoiced at
all the glorious things He
was
doing
.
And
as
he
said these
things
, all his adversaries were put
to
shame:
and all
the multitude
rejoiced for
all the glorious things that
were
done
by
him
.
Then
Jesus
asked
, “
What is the kingdom of God like? To
what
can
I compare
it?
He
said
therefore
, Unto
what is the kingdom of God like? and
whereunto
shall
I liken
it?
It is like a mustard seed that
a man tossed
into his garden .
It grew and became a tree ,
and the birds of the air
nested
in its
branches. ”
It is like unto
a grain
of
mustard seed ,
which
a man took,
and
cast
into his own
garden ;
and
it grew ,
and became a tree ;
and the birds of the heaven
lodged
in the
branches thereof
.
Again He asked
, “To
what
can
I compare
the kingdom of God?
And
again he said
, Whereunto
shall
I liken
the kingdom of God?
It is like leaven that
a woman took and mixed
into
three measures of flour
, until
all
of
it was leavened. ”
It is like unto
leaven ,
which
a woman took and hid
in
three measures of meal
, till
it was all
leavened.
Then
Jesus
traveled
throughout
the
towns
and villages,
teaching
as
He made
His way toward
Jerusalem.
And he went
on
his way through
cities
and
villages,
teaching,
and
journeying
on
unto
Jerusalem.
“Lord,”
someone
asked
Him, “will
only
a
few people
be
saved? ”
Jesus
answered
,
And
one
said
unto
him, Lord,
are
they
few that
are
saved? And
he
said
unto
them
,
“Make
every
effort
to enter through
the narrow door .
For many, I tell
you, will
try
to enter and will
not be able.
Strive
to enter in
by
the narrow door :
for many, I say
unto
you, shall
seek
to enter in,
and shall
not be able.
After
the master of the house gets
up and shuts
the door, you
will
stand outside
knocking
and saying, ‘
Lord, open the
door
for
us .’
But
he will
reply
, ‘
I do
not
know where
you are from.’
When
once
the master of the house is
risen
up ,
and hath
shut
to
the door, and
ye
begin
to
stand without,
and to
knock
at
the
door,
saying, Lord, open to
us ;
and
he shall
answer
and
say
to
you
, I know you not
whence
ye
are ;
Then you
will
say, ‘
We ate
and drank
with
you
, and you
taught
in our streets .’
then shall
ye
begin
to
say, We did
eat
and drink
in
thy
presence
, and thou
didst
teach
in our streets ;
And he will
answer
, ‘
I tell you, I do
not
know where
you
are from.
Depart from me, all you
evildoers
. ’
and he shall
say
, I tell you, I know not
whence
ye
are ;
depart from me, all ye
workers
of
iniquity
.
There will
be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you
see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but
you
yourselves are
thrown
out
.
There shall
be the
weeping and the
gnashing of teeth ,
when ye
shall
see Abraham, and
Isaac, and
Jacob, and all the prophets ,
in the kingdom of God, and
yourselves cast
forth
without
.
People
will
come from east and west and north and south, and will
recline
at
the
table
in the kingdom of God.
And
they
shall
come from the
east and west ,
and from
the
north and south, and shall
sit
down
in the kingdom of God.
And indeed
, some
who
are last will
be first, and some
who
are first will
be last. ”
And behold
, there
are last who
shall
be first, and there
are first who
shall
be last.
At
that very hour ,
some
Pharisees
came to Jesus
and
told
Him, “Leave
this
place
and
get away
, because
Herod wants
to
kill You
. ”
In
that very hour there
came certain
Pharisees,
saying
to him, Get thee
out
, and
go
hence:
for
Herod would
fain
kill thee
.
But
Jesus
replied
, “
Go tell
that fox, ‘Look
, I will
keep
driving
out demons and healing
people
today
and tomorrow
, and on
the third day I will
reach
My
goal
. ’
And
he
said
unto
them
, Go and
say
to
that fox, Behold
, I cast
out demons and perform
cures
to-day
and to-morrow
, and the third `
day '
I am
perfected
.
Nevertheless ,
I must keep
going
today
and tomorrow
and the next
day ,
for it is
not
admissible
for
a prophet to
perish outside
of Jerusalem.
Nevertheless I must go
on
my
way
to-day
and to-morrow
and the `
day '
following:
for it cannot
be
that
a prophet perish out
of Jerusalem.
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who
kills
the prophets and stones
those
sent to
her ,
how often I have longed
to
gather
your
children together as a hen gathers
her chicks
under her wings, but
you
were
unwilling
!
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that
killeth
the prophets ,
and stoneth
them
that
are
sent unto
her !
how often would
I have gathered
thy
children together ,
even
as a hen `gathereth'
her own
brood
under her wings, and
ye
would
not
!
Look
, your house is left to
you desolate .
And I tell
you
that
you will
not see Me again
until you
say, ‘
Blessed is He who
comes
in the name of the Lord. ’”
Behold
, your house is left unto
you `
desolate ':
and I say
unto
you ,
Ye
shall
not see me ,
until ye
shall
say, Blessed is he that
cometh
in the name of the Lord.
