After this,
the Lord appointed seventy -two
others and sent them two by
two ahead
of
Him
to
every town
and place He was about to visit
.
Now
after these
things
the Lord appointed seventy others ,
and sent them two and
two before
his
face
into
every city
and place ,
whither
he himself
was about to come
.
And He told
them, “
The harvest is plentiful
, but the workers
are few .
Ask
the Lord of the harvest, therefore,
to
send out
workers
into His harvest.
And he said
unto
them, The harvest indeed
is plenteous
, but the laborers
are few :
pray
ye
therefore
the Lord of the harvest, that
he
send forth
laborers
into his harvest.
Go !
I am
sending
you out
like
lambs among
wolves.
Go your
ways;
behold,
I send
you forth
as
lambs in
the
midst
of
wolves.
Carry no purse or
bag
or
sandals.
Do
not
greet
anyone
along
the road
.
Carry no purse ,
no
wallet,
no
shoes;
and
salute
no
man
on
the way
.
Whatever
house you
enter, begin
by
saying
, ‘
Peace to this house. ’
And
into
whatsoever
house ye
shall
enter, first
say
, Peace `be'
to this house.
If a man
of peace is
there, your peace will
rest on
him ;
if not, it will
return
to you.
And
if a son
of peace be
there, your peace shall
rest upon
him :
but
if not, it shall
turn
to you again
.
Stay
at
the
same house, eating and drinking whatever
you
are
offered.
For the worker
is worthy of his wages
. Do
not move
around
from house to house.
And
in
that
same house remain
, eating and drinking such
things
as
they
give:
for the laborer
is worthy of his hire
. Go
not from house to house.
If
you
enter a
town
and they welcome
you, eat whatever
is
set before you .
And
into
whatsoever
city
ye
enter ,
and they receive
you, eat such
things
as
are
set before you :
Heal the sick who
are there
and tell
them, ‘
The kingdom of God is near
you. ’
and
heal the sick that
are therein,
and say
unto
them, The kingdom of God is come
nigh
unto
you.
But if
you
enter a
town
and they do
not
welcome
you, go into the streets and declare
,
But into
whatsoever
city
ye
shall
enter ,
and they receive
you not
, go out
into the streets thereof
and say
,
‘
Even the dust of
your town
that clings
to our feet, we wipe off as
a
testimony
against you .
Yet
be
sure
of
this
: The kingdom of God is near
. ’
Even the dust from
your city,
that cleaveth
to our feet, we wipe off against you: nevertheless
know
this,
that
the kingdom of God is come
nigh
.
I tell
you, it will
be more bearable
on
that day for Sodom than for that town
.
I say
unto
you, it shall
be more tolerable
in
that day for Sodom ,
than for that city
.
Woe to
you
, Chorazin! Woe to
you
, Bethsaida! For if the miracles
that
were
performed
in
you
had been performed
in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
Woe unto
thee
, Chorazin! woe unto
thee
, Bethsaida! for if the mighty
works
had been done
in Tyre and Sidon, which
were
done
in
you,
they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
But it will
be more bearable
for Tyre and Sidon at
the judgment than for you.
But it shall
be more tolerable
for Tyre and Sidon in
the judgment ,
than for you.
And you
, Capernaum, will
you
be lifted
up
to
heaven? No,
you
will
be brought down to
Hades !
And thou
, Capernaum, shalt
thou
be exalted
unto
heaven? thou
shalt
be brought down unto
Hades .
Whoever
listens
to
you listens
to
Me; whoever
rejects
you rejects
Me; and whoever
rejects
Me rejects
the
One
who
sent Me. ”
He
that
heareth
you heareth
me; and
he
that
rejecteth
you rejecteth
me; and he
that
rejecteth
me rejecteth
him
that
sent me.
The seventy -two
returned with joy and
said
, “
Lord, even the demons submit
to
us in Your
name. ”
And
the seventy returned with joy, saying,
Lord, even the demons are
subject
unto
us in thy
name.
So
He told
them, “
I saw
Satan fall
like
lightning from heaven.
And
he said
unto
them, I beheld
Satan fallen
as
lightning from heaven.
Behold, I have given you authority to tread on
snakes
and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy .
Nothing will
harm
you.
Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon
serpents
and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy :
and
nothing shall
in
any
wise
hurt
you.
Nevertheless ,
do
not
rejoice that the spirits submit
to
you ,
but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. ”
Nevertheless in
this
rejoice not,
that the spirits are
subject
unto
you ;
but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
At
that time
Jesus
rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared
, “
I praise
You
, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because
You
have
hidden
these things from the wise and learned
, and revealed
them to
little
children.
Yes
, Father ,
for this
was well-pleasing in Your
sight.
In
that same
hour
he
rejoiced in the Holy Spirit ,
and said
, I thank
thee
, O
Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that
thou
didst
hide
these things from the wise and understanding
, and didst
reveal
them unto
babes:
yea
, Father ;
for so
it
was well-pleasing in thy
sight.
All things have been entrusted
to
Me by
My Father .
No one knows
who the Son is except
the Father ,
and no
one
knows
who the Father is except
the Son and those
to whom
the Son chooses
to reveal Him. ”
All things have been delivered
unto
me of
my Father :
and
no one knoweth
who the Son is ,
save
the Father ;
and who the Father is ,
save
the Son ,
and he
to whomsoever
the Son willeth
to reveal `
him '
.
Then
Jesus
turned
to the disciples and
said privately, “
Blessed are the eyes that
see what
you
see .
And
turning
to the disciples ,
he
said privately, Blessed `
are '
the eyes which
see the
things
that
ye
see :
For I tell
you that many prophets and kings desired to see what
you
see
but
did
not
see it
, and to hear what
you
hear but
did
not hear
it
. ”
for I say
unto
you ,
that many prophets and kings desired to see the
things
which
ye
see, and saw
them
not;
and
to hear the
things
which
ye
hear ,
and
heard
them
not.
One
day
an
expert
in
the
law
stood up to
test
Him .
“Teacher
, ”
he
asked
, “
what must
I do to inherit eternal life? ”
And
behold,
a
certain
lawyer
stood up and
made
trial
of
him, saying
, Teacher,
what shall
I do to inherit eternal life?
“
What is written in the Law? ”
Jesus
replied.
“
How do
you
read
it
? ”
And
he
said
unto
him,
What is written in the law? how readest
thou
?
He answered
, “‘
Love the Lord your
God with all your
heart and with all your
soul and with all your
strength and with all your
mind ’
and ‘Love
your
neighbor as yourself
. ’”
And
he answering
said
, Thou
shalt
love the Lord thy
God with all thy
heart ,
and with all thy
soul ,
and with all thy
strength ,
and with all thy
mind ;
and thy
neighbor as thyself
.
“You
have
answered
correctly,”
Jesus
said .
“Do
this and you
will
live. ”
And
he
said unto
him,
Thou
hast
answered
right:
this do,
and thou
shalt
live.
But wanting
to justify himself, he
asked
Jesus, “
And who is my neighbor? ”
But he,
desiring
to justify himself, said
unto
Jesus, And who is my neighbor?
Jesus took
up
this
question
and said, “
A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho when
he fell into
the
hands
of
robbers .
They
stripped him ,
beat him, and went
away
, leaving him half dead.
Jesus made
answer
and said, A certain
man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho ;
and
he fell among
robbers ,
who
both
stripped him and
beat him, and departed
, leaving him half dead.
Now
by chance a priest was going down the
same
road,
but
when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And
by chance a certain
priest was going down that
way:
and
when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
So
too,
when
a Levite came to that
spot
and saw him, he
passed by on the other side.
And
in
like
manner
a Levite also,
when
he
came to the
place,
and saw him, passed by on the other side.
But when
a Samaritan on
a
journey
came upon
him, he looked
at
him
and
had
compassion .
But a certain
Samaritan ,
as
he
journeyed,
came where
he
was:
and
when
he
saw
him, he was
moved
with
compassion ,
He
went
to him and bandaged
his wounds, pouring on oil and wine .
Then
he put
him on his own animal
, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
and
came
to him ,
and bound
up
his wounds, pouring on `them'
oil and wine ;
and
he set
him on his own beast
, and
brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
The next
day
he took out two denarii
and gave them to the innkeeper.
‘
Take care of him, ’
he
said
, ‘and
on
my
return
I will repay you
for
any
additional
expense
. ’
And
on
the morrow
he took out two shillings,
and gave them to the host,
and
said,
Take care of him ;
and
whatsoever
thou
spendest
more
, I
, when
I come
back
again,
will repay thee
.
Which of these three do
you
think
was
a
neighbor to
the
man
who
fell into
the hands
of
robbers? ”
Which of these three ,
thinkest
thou,
proved
neighbor unto
him
that
fell among
the robbers?
“The
one
who
showed him
mercy ,”
replied
the
expert
in
the
law
. Then
Jesus told
him, “
Go and do likewise. ”
And
he
said,
He
that
showed mercy on
him
. And
Jesus said
unto
him, Go ,
and do thou
likewise.
As they traveled
along
, Jesus
entered a village where
a woman named Martha welcomed
Him into her home
.
Now
as they went
on
their
way
, he
entered into
a certain
village :
and
a certain
woman named Martha received
him into her house
.
She had a sister named
Mary, who sat at the Lord’s
feet listening
to
His message
.
And
she had a sister called
Mary, who also
sat at the Lord's
feet ,
and
heard
his word
.
But Martha was distracted
by
all
the
preparations
to
be
made.
She came to Jesus
and said, “
Lord, do
You
not care that my sister has
left
me to serve alone? Tell
her to
help me !”
But Martha was cumbered
about
much
serving;
and
she came up
to him,
and said, Lord, dost
thou
not care that my sister did
leave
me to serve alone? bid
her therefore
that
she
help me .
“Martha
, Martha, ”
the
Lord
replied
, “you
are
worried
and upset
about many things .
But
the
Lord
answered
and
said
unto
her
, Martha, Martha
, thou
art
anxious
and troubled
about many things :
But only
one thing is necessary.
Mary has
chosen the good portion
, and
it
will
not be taken away from her. ”
but one thing is needful:
for
Mary hath
chosen the good part
, which
shall
not be taken away from her.
