Now
when all the Amorite
kings west
of the Jordan and all the Canaanite
kings along
the coast
heard how the
LORD
had dried up the waters of the Jordan before the Israelites
until they
had
crossed
over, their hearts
melted and
their
spirits
failed
for
fear
of the Israelites
.
It
happened,
when all the kings of the Amorites,
who
were
beyond
the
Jordan westward,
and all the kings of
the Canaanites,
who
were
by
the
sea,
heard how that
Yahweh
had dried up the waters of the Jordan from
before the children
of
Israel,
until we
were
passed
over, that
their heart
melted ,
neither
was
there
spirit
in
them
any
more,
because
of the children
of
Israel
.
At that time the
LORD
said to Joshua, “
Make flint knives and circumcise the sons
of Israel once
again
. ”
At that time Yahweh
said to Joshua, Make you
flint knives ,
and circumcise again
the children
of Israel the
second
time
.
So
Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the sons
of Israel at Gibeath-haaraloth
.
Joshua made himself
flint knives ,
and circumcised the children
of Israel at the
hill
of
the
foreskins
.
Now
this is why Joshua circumcised
them
: All those
who came out of Egypt —
all the men of war —had
died on
the
journey
in the wilderness after they had
left
Egypt.
This is the
cause
why Joshua did
circumcise
: all the
people
who came forth
out of Egypt ,
who
were
males,
even
all the men of war ,
died in the wilderness by
the
way,
after they came
forth
out
of
Egypt.
Though
all who had
come
out were circumcised ,
none
of
those
born in the wilderness on
the journey
from
Egypt had been
circumcised.
For
all the
people
who came
out were circumcised ;
but
all
the
people
who
were
born in the wilderness by
the way
as
they
came
forth
out
of
Egypt ,
they
had not
circumcised.
For the Israelites
had
wandered
in the wilderness forty
years
, until all the nation’s
men of war who had
come
out of Egypt had
died
, since
they did
not
obey
the
LORD.
So
the LORD
vowed
never
to let them see the land He
had
sworn
to their fathers to
give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
For the children
of
Israel
walked
forty
years
in the wilderness, until all the nation,
even
the
men of war who came
forth
out of Egypt, were
consumed,
because
they didn't
listen
to
the voice
of
Yahweh:
to whom
Yahweh
swore
that
he
wouldn't
let them see the land which
Yahweh
swore
to their fathers that
he
would
give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
And
Joshua
raised up their
sons
in their place, and
these
were
the
ones
he
circumcised.
Until
this
time
they were still
uncircumcised, since
they had not been
circumcised along
the way.
Their
children,
whom
he
raised up in their place, them
did
Joshua
circumcise:
for
they were uncircumcised, because
they had not circumcised them
by
the way.
And
after
all the nation had
been
circumcised
, they stayed
there
in the camp until they were healed
.
It
happened,
when
they
had
done
circumcising
all the nation, that
they abode
in their
places
in
the camp ,
until they were whole
.
Then
the
LORD
said to Joshua, “Today
I
have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you. ”
So
that place has
been
called Gilgal to this day.
Yahweh
said to Joshua, This
day
have I
rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off
you. Therefore
the
name
of
that place was
called Gilgal ,
to this day.
On
the evening
of the fourteenth day of the month ,
while
the
Israelites
were
camped
at Gilgal
on
the plains of Jericho ,
they
kept
the
Passover
.
The children
of Israel
encamped
in
Gilgal;
and
they
kept
the Passover
on
the
fourteenth day of the month at even
in
the plains of Jericho.
The day after the Passover, on
that
very
day,
they
ate
unleavened bread
and roasted
grain from
the
produce
of
the land
.
They
ate
of
the produce
of
the
land
on
the
next
day after the Passover, unleavened cakes
and parched
grain ,
in
the same
day
.
And
the day after they had eaten from
the produce of the land ,
the manna ceased.
There
was
no
more manna
for
the
Israelites,
so
that
year
they began
to
eat
the crops
of the land of Canaan.
The manna
ceased
on
the
next
day ,
after they had eaten of
the produce of the land ;
neither
had
the children
of
Israel
manna any
more ;
but
they ate
of
the fruit
of the land of Canaan that
year
.
Now
when Joshua was near
Jericho, he looked
up and saw
a man standing
in
front
of
him with a
drawn
sword in His hand .
Joshua approached
Him and asked
, “
Are You for us or for our enemies
? ”
It
happened,
when Joshua was by
Jericho, that
he lifted
up his
eyes
and looked,
and,
behold,
there
stood
a man over
against
him with his
sword drawn
in his hand :
and
Joshua went
to
him ,
and said
to
him
, Are you for us ,
or for our adversaries
?
“Neither,”
He replied.
“I
have
now
come
as Commander
of the LORD’s
army
. ”
Then
Joshua fell facedown
in
reverence
and asked
Him, “
What does
my Lord have
to say
to
His servant? ”
He said,
No;
but
[
as ]
prince
of the host
of
Yahweh
am
I
now
come
. Joshua fell on
his
face
to
the
earth,
and did
worship,
and
said
to
him, What says
my lord to his servant?
The Commander
of the
LORD’s
army
replied
, “Take
off your sandals,
for the place where
you are
standing
is holy. ”
And
Joshua did so.
The prince
of Yahweh's
host
said
to
Joshua
, Put
off your shoe
from
off
your
foot;
for the place whereon
you stand
is holy. Joshua did so.
