King James Version
And
at
dawn
he
came
again
to
the temple,
Jesus
went
unto
the mount
of
Olives.
and all the people were
coming
unto him ,
and having
sat down, he
was
teaching
them ;
And early
in
the
morning
he
came
again
into
the
temple,
and
all the people came
unto him ;
and he
sat down, and
taught
them .
and the scribes and the
Pharisees bring
unto him a woman having
been
taken in adultery ,
and having
set her in the midst,
And the scribes and Pharisees brought
unto him a woman taken in adultery ;
and when
they
had
set her in the midst,
they say to
him, `Teacher
, this woman was taken in the
very
crime
--
committing
adultery,
They say unto
him, Master
, this woman was taken in adultery, in
the
very
act.
and
in the law ,
Moses
did
command
us that such be stoned ;
thou,
therefore,
what dost
thou say
? '
Now
Moses
in the law commanded
us ,
that such should
be stoned :
but
what sayest
thou?
and
this they said, trying
him, that they might have to accuse him. And
Jesus ,
having
stooped down, with the
finger he
was
writing
on the ground,
This they said, tempting
him, that they might have to accuse him. But
Jesus stooped down, and
with his
finger wrote
on the ground, as
though
he
heard
them
not.
and
when they continued asking him, having
bent
himself back
, he
said unto them, `The
sinless
of
you --
let him first cast the
stone at her ;'
So
when they continued asking him, he
lifted
up
himself, and
said unto them, He
that
is
without
sin
among
you ,
let him first cast a
stone at her .
and again having
stooped down, he
was
writing
on the ground ,
And again he
stooped down, and
wrote
on the ground .
and they having
heard, and
by
the
conscience
being convicted, were
going
forth
one by one, having
begun
from
the elders
--
unto the last ;
and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
And they which
heard it
, being convicted by
their
own
conscience
, went
out
one by one, beginning
at
the eldest,
even
unto the last :
and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
And
Jesus having
bent
himself back
, and having
seen
no
one
but the woman, said to
her, `
Woman, where are those --
thine accusers? did
no one
pass
sentence
upon
thee? '
When
Jesus had
lifted
up
himself, and saw
none
but the woman, he
said unto
her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath
no man
condemned
thee?
and
she said, `
No one
, Sir;'
and Jesus said to
her, `
Neither do I pass
sentence
on
thee ;
be
going
on
, and no more sin
. '
She said, No man
, Lord.
And Jesus said unto
her, Neither do I condemn
thee :
go
, and sin
no more.
Again,
therefore,
Jesus
spake to
them, saying, `
I am the light of the world ;
he who
is
following
me shall not walk in the
darkness, but he
shall have the light of the
life. '
Then
spake Jesus
again
unto
them, saying, I am the light of the world :
he that
followeth
me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
The Pharisees ,
therefore ,
said to
him, `
Thou of thyself dost
testify,
thy testimony
is not true ;'
The Pharisees therefore said unto
him, Thou bearest
record
of thyself ;
thy record
is not true .
Jesus answered and said to
them, `And
if
I testify
of myself --
my testimony
is true ,
because
I have
known
whence I came, and whither I go ,
and
ye
--
ye have
not
known
whence I come, or
whither I go.
Jesus answered and said unto
them, Though
I bear
record
of myself ,
yet
my record
is true :
for
I know
whence I came, and whither I go ;
but
ye cannot
tell
whence I come, and
whither I go.
`
Ye according
to
the flesh do
judge
; I do
not
judge any
one,
Ye judge
after
the flesh; I judge no
man.
and even
if I do
judge my judgment is true ,
because
I am not alone, but I and the Father who
sent me ;
And yet
if I judge ,
my judgment is true :
for
I am not alone, but I and the Father that
sent me .
and
also in your law it
hath
been
written
, that the testimony of two men are
true ;
It
is
also written
in your law, that the testimony of two men is
true .
I am `
one '
who
is
testifying
of myself, and the Father who
sent me doth
testify
of me. '
I am one that
bear
witness
of myself, and the Father that
sent me beareth
witness
of me.
They
said ,
therefore,
to
him, `
Where is thy father? '
Jesus answered, `
Ye have
neither known
me nor my Father: if me
ye had known, my Father also ye
had
known
. '
Then
said they
unto
him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know
me ,
nor my Father: if ye had known me
, ye
should
have
known
my Father also.
These sayings
spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching
in the temple ,
and no one
seized
him ,
because
his hour had
not yet come ;
These words
spake Jesus in the treasury, as
he
taught
in the temple :
and no man
laid
hands
on
him ;
for
his hour was
not yet come .
therefore
said Jesus again to
them, `
I go away
, and ye will
seek me, and in
your
sin
ye
shall die ;
whither I go away
, ye are
not
able
to
come. '
Then
said Jesus again unto
them, I go my
way
, and ye shall
seek me, and shall die in
your
sins:
whither I go, ye cannot
come.
The Jews, therefore,
said,
`
Will he kill himself ,
because he saith, Whither I go away
, ye are
not
able
to
come ?'
Then
said
the Jews, Will he kill himself ?
because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot
come .
and he said to
them, `
Ye are from beneath ,
I am from above ;
ye are of this world ,
I am not of this world ;
And he said unto
them, Ye are from beneath ;
I am from above :
ye are of this world ;
I am not of this world .
I said ,
therefore ,
to
you, that ye shall die in your sins ,
for if ye may
not
believe that I am `
he '
, ye shall die in your sins. '
I said therefore unto
you, that ye shall die in your sins :
for if ye believe not
that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
They
said ,
therefore,
to
him, `Thou
--
who art thou? '
and Jesus said
to
them, `
Even what
I did
speak
of
to
you at
the beginning ;
Then
said they
unto
him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith
unto
them, Even the
same
that
I said
unto
you from
the beginning .
many
things
I have to speak
concerning
you
and to judge ,
but He who
sent me is true ,
and I --
what
things I heard from
Him --
these
I
say
to
the
world
. '
I have many
things
to say
and to judge of
you:
but he that
sent me is true ;
and I speak
to
the
world
those
things which
I have
heard of
him.
They knew
not that of
the
Father
he spake to them ;
They understood
not that he spake to them of
the
Father.
Jesus,
therefore,
said to
them, `
When ye may
lift
up the Son of Man then ye will
know that I am `
he ';
and of
myself
I do nothing ,
but according
as my Father did
teach
me, these
things
I speak ;
Then
said Jesus
unto
them, When ye have
lifted
up the Son of man ,
then shall
ye know that I am he ,
and that
I do nothing of
myself;
but as my Father hath
taught
me, I speak these
things.
and He who
sent me is with me ;
the Father did
not leave
me alone ,
because
I ,
the
things
pleasing
to
Him,
do always. '
And he that
sent me is with me :
the Father hath
not left
me alone ;
for
I do always those
things
that
please
him
.
As he is
speaking
these things
, many believed in
him ;
As he spake
these words
, many believed on
him .
Jesus,
therefore,
said unto
the
Jews who
believed in
him, `
If ye may
remain
in my word, truly
my
disciples
ye
are ,
and
ye shall
know
the
truth,
Then
said Jesus
to
those
Jews which
believed on
him, If ye continue
in my word, then
are ye my
disciples
indeed;
and the truth shall make you free. '
And ye
shall
know
the truth ,
and
the
truth
shall make you free.
They answered him, `Seed
of
Abraham
we are;
and to no
one
have
we
been
servants
at
any time;
how dost
thou say
--
Ye shall become
free? '
They answered him, We be
Abraham's
seed,
and were
never
in
bondage
to any man:
how sayest
thou ,
Ye shall be
made
free?
Jesus answered them, `
Verily, verily, I say to
you --
Every
one
who
is
committing
sin
, is a
servant of the
sin ,
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto
you, Whosoever
committeth
sin
is the
servant of sin .
and the servant doth
not remain
in the house --
to
the
age,
the son doth
remain
--
to
the
age;
And the servant abideth
not in the house for
ever:
but
the Son abideth
ever.
if then
the son may
make you free, in
reality
ye shall be free.
If the Son therefore
shall
make you free, ye shall be free indeed
.
`
I have
known
that ye are seed of
Abraham,
but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you ;
I know
that ye are Abraham's
seed ;
but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you .
I --
that which I have seen with my Father do
speak,
and ye ,
therefore,
that which ye have seen with your father --
ye
do
. '
I speak
that which I have seen with my Father :
and ye do
that which ye have seen with your father.
They answered and said to
him, `
Our father is
Abraham;'
Jesus saith to
them, `
If children
of
Abraham
ye were, the works of Abraham ye
were
doing;
They answered and said unto
him, Abraham
is
our father .
Jesus saith unto
them, If ye were Abraham's
children
, ye
would
do
the works of Abraham .
and
now ,
ye seek to kill me --
a man who
hath spoken
to
you the truth I heard from
God ;
this Abraham
did not ;
But
now ye seek to kill me ,
a man that
hath told
you the truth ,
which
I have
heard of
God :
this did not Abraham.
ye do the works
of your father. '
They
said ,
therefore,
to him, `
We of
whoredom
have
not been
born; one
Father
we have --
God ;'
Ye do the deeds
of your father. Then
said they
to him, We be
not born of
fornication
; we have one
Father,
even
God .
Jesus then
said to
them, `
If God were your father, ye were
loving
me ,
for I came
forth from God ,
and
am
come
; for
neither have
I come
of myself, but He sent me ;
Jesus said unto
them, If God were your Father, ye would
love
me :
for I proceeded
forth and
came
from God; neither came
I of myself, but he sent me .
wherefore
do ye not know
my speech? because ye are
not
able
to
hear my word.
Why
do ye not understand
my speech? even
because ye cannot
hear my word.
`
Ye are of a
father --
the devil, and the desires
of your father ye will to
do ;
he was a man-slayer
from the beginning, and in the truth he
hath
not
stood
, because there is no truth in him ;
when one
may
speak
the
falsehood
, of his own he
speaketh,
because
he is a liar --
also
his
father.
Ye are of your
father the devil, and the lusts
of your father ye will do .
He was a murderer
from the beginning, and abode
not
in the truth, because there is no truth in him .
When he
speaketh
a
lie
, he
speaketh
of his own :
for
he is a liar ,
and
the
father of
it
.
`
And because I say
the truth, ye do
not
believe me.
And because I tell
you
the truth, ye believe me not
.
Who
of you doth
convict
me of sin? and if I speak
truth, wherefore
do ye not believe me?
Which
of you convinceth
me of sin? And if I say
the
truth, why
do ye not believe me?
he who
is of God ,
the
sayings
of
God
he
doth
hear;
because
of
this
ye do
not
hear, because of
God
ye are not. '
He that
is of God heareth
God's
words:
ye therefore
hear them
not
, because ye are not of
God
.
The Jews, therefore,
answered
and said to
him, `Do
we not say
well ,
that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon
? '
Then
answered
the Jews, and said unto
him, Say
we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil
?
Jesus answered, `
I have not a demon,
but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me ;
Jesus answered, I have not a devil;
but I honour my Father, and ye do
dishonour me .
and I do
not
seek my
own glory ;
there is who
is
seeking
and is
judging;
And I seek not
mine
own glory :
there is one
that
seeketh
and judgeth.
verily, verily, I say to
you, If any
one
may
keep my word
, death
he may
not
see --
to
the
age
. '
Verily, verily, I say unto
you, If a
man
keep my saying
, he shall
never
see death
.
The Jews ,
therefore,
said
to
him, `
Now we have
known
that thou hast a demon;
Abraham did
die
, and the prophets ,
and thou dost
say
, If any
one
may
keep my word
, he shall not
taste of death --
to
the
age!
Then
said
the Jews unto
him, Now we know
that thou hast a devil.
Abraham is
dead
, and the prophets ;
and thou sayest
, If a
man
keep my saying
, he shall never
taste of death .
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who
died
? and the prophets died;
whom dost
thou make
thyself? '
Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which
is
dead
? and the prophets are
dead:
whom makest
thou thyself?
Jesus answered, `
If I glorify
myself, my glory
is nothing ;
it is my Father who
is
glorifying
me ,
of whom ye say that He is your God ;
Jesus answered, If I honour
myself, my honour
is nothing :
it is my Father that
honoureth
me ;
of whom ye say ,
that he is your God :
and
ye have not known Him ,
and
I have
known
Him ,
and if I say that
I have
not
known
Him, I shall be like you --
speaking
falsely;
but I have
known
Him, and His
word
I
keep ;
Yet
ye have not known him ;
but
I know
him :
and if I should
say ,
I know
him not
, I shall be a
liar
like unto
you :
but I know
him, and keep his
saying.
Abraham,
your father ,
was
glad
that
he
might
see my day ;
and he saw, and did
rejoice
. '
Your father Abraham
rejoiced
to
see my day :
and he saw it
, and was
glad
.
The Jews ,
therefore,
said
unto him, `
Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham
hast thou seen? '
Then
said
the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham
?
Jesus said to
them, `
Verily, verily, I say to
you, Before Abraham's
coming
--
I am ;'
Jesus said unto
them, Verily, verily, I say unto
you, Before Abraham
was,
I am .
they
took up ,
therefore,
stones that
they
may
cast at him ,
but Jesus hid himself, and went forth
out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
Then
took they
up stones to
cast at him :
but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
