After
these
things
there was a feast of the Jews ;
and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Some
time
later
there was a feast of the Jews ,
and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Now there is in Jerusalem by
the sheep `
gate '
a pool, which is
called
in Hebrew Bethesda ,
having
five
porches
.
Now there is in Jerusalem near
the Sheep Gate a pool with
five
covered
colonnades
, which in Hebrew is
called
Bethesda.
In
these lay a multitude
of them
that
were
sick, blind, halt,
withered,
`waiting
for
the moving
of
the water
. '
On
these walkways
lay a great
number
of the
sick, the
blind, the lame,
and
the paralyzed
.
`for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the waters stepped in was made whole, with whatsoever disease he was holden.'

And
a
certain
man was
there ,
who
had been thirty and
eight years in
his
infirmity
.
One
man there had been an
invalid
for
thirty -
eight years.
When Jesus saw him lying ,
and knew
that he had been
now
a long time `
in that
case'
, he saith
unto
him, Wouldest
thou
be
made
whole
?
When Jesus saw him lying there
and realized
that he had spent
a long time in this
condition
, He asked
him, “Do
you
want
to
get
well
? ”
The
sick
man
answered
him,
Sir, I have no man,
when
the
water
is
troubled,
to put
me into the pool :
but
while I am coming
, another
steppeth
down
before me.
“
Sir, ”
the
invalid
replied,
“
I have no one
to help
me into the pool when
the
water
is
stirred.
While I am on
my
way
, someone
else
goes
in
before me. ”
Jesus saith
unto
him, Arise
, take
up thy
bed
, and walk.
Then
Jesus told
him, “Get
up
, pick
up your
mat
, and walk. ”
And
straightway
the man was made whole
, and took
up his bed
and walked
. Now it
was
the sabbath on
that
day .
Immediately
the man was made well
, and he
picked
up his mat
and began
to
walk
. Now this
happened
on
the Sabbath day ,
So the Jews said unto
him
that
was
cured
, It
is the sabbath ,
and
it is not
lawful
for thee
to take
up
thy
bed
.
so the Jews said to
the
man
who
had
been
healed
, “This
is the Sabbath !
It is unlawful
for you
to carry
your
mat
. ”
But he answered them
, He
that
made me whole,
the
same
said
unto
me, Take
up thy
bed,
and walk.
But he answered, “The
man
who
made me well
told
me, ‘Pick
up your
mat
and walk. ’”
They
asked
him,
Who is the
man that
said
unto
thee,
Take
up `thy
bed',
and walk?
“
Who is this
man who
told
you
to
pick
it
up and walk? ”
they
asked.
But he
that
was healed knew
not who it was ;
for Jesus had conveyed
himself
away ,
a
multitude
being
in
the place
.
But the
man
who
was healed did
not know
who it was ,
for Jesus had slipped
away while
the crowd
was
there
.
Afterward Jesus findeth
him
in
the temple ,
and said unto
him, Behold
, thou
art
made whole:
sin
no
more
, lest
a
worse thing
befall
thee
.
Afterward ,
Jesus found
the man
at
the
temple and said to
him, “See
, you
have
been
made well.
Stop
sinning
, or
something
worse may
happen
to
you
. ”
The man went away ,
and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole
.
And
the man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well
.
And
for
this
cause
the
Jews
persecuted
Jesus,
because he
did
these things on the sabbath.
Now
because Jesus
was
doing
these things on the Sabbath ,
the
Jews
began
to
persecute
Him
.
But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh
even
until
now
, and I work
.
But Jesus answered them, “To
this
very
day
My Father is
at
His
work
, and I too
am
working
. ”
For
this cause
therefore
the Jews sought
the more
to kill him ,
because
he
not only brake
the sabbath, but also
called
God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
Because
of
this ,
the Jews tried
all
the harder
to kill Him .
Not only was
He
breaking
the Sabbath, but He
was
even
calling
God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.
Jesus therefore
answered
and
said
unto
them
, Verily
, verily
, I say
unto
you, The Son can do nothing of
himself, but
what
he seeth
the Father doing :
for what
things
soever
he
doeth
, these
the Son also doeth
in
like
manner
.
So
Jesus replied
, “Truly
, truly
, I tell
you, the Son can do nothing by
Himself, unless
He sees
the Father doing it.
For whatever
the
Father
does
, the Son also does
.
For
the Father loveth
the Son ,
and showeth
him all things
that
himself
doeth:
and greater works than these will
he
show
him,
that
ye
may
marvel
.
The Father loves
the Son and shows
Him all He
does.
And to
your
amazement,
He
will
show
Him
even
greater works than these.
For as the Father raiseth
the dead and giveth
them life, even
so the Son also
giveth
life to whom he will
.
For just
as the Father raises
the dead and gives
them life, so also
the Son gives
life to whom He wishes
.
For
neither
doth
the Father judge
any
man
, but he
hath
given
all judgment unto
the Son ;
Furthermore,
the Father judges
no
one
, but has
assigned
all judgment to
the Son ,
that all may honor the Son ,
even
as they honor the Father. He
that
honoreth
not the Son honoreth
not the Father that
sent him.
so
that all may honor the Son just
as they honor the Father. Whoever
does
not honor
the Son does
not honor
the Father who
sent Him.
Verily
, verily
, I say
unto
you, He
that
heareth
my word ,
and believeth
him that
sent me ,
hath
eternal life ,
and cometh
not into
judgment, but
hath
passed
out
of
death into
life.
Truly
, truly
, I tell
you, whoever
hears
My word and believes
Him who
sent Me has
eternal life and will
not come
under
judgment .
Indeed
, he
has
crossed
over
from
death to
life.
Verily
, verily
, I say
unto
you, The hour cometh,
and now is,
when the dead shall
hear the voice of the Son of God ;
and they
that
hear shall
live.
Truly
, truly
, I tell
you, the hour is
coming
and has
now come
when the dead will
hear the voice of the Son of God ,
and those
who
hear will
live.
For as the Father hath
life in himself, even
so gave
he to
the Son also
to have life in himself :
For as the Father has
life in Himself, so also
He has
granted
the Son to have life in Himself .
and he gave
him authority to execute judgment, because he is a
son of man.
And He has
given
Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the
Son of Man.
Marvel
not at this :
for the hour cometh,
in
which
all that
are in the
tombs
shall
hear his voice ,
Do
not be
amazed
at this ,
for the hour is
coming
when
all who
are in their
graves
will
hear His voice
and shall
come forth;
they
that
have done good ,
unto
the resurrection of life ;
and they
that
have done evil ,
unto
the resurrection of judgment.
and come out—those
who
have done good to
the resurrection of life ,
and those
who
have done evil to
the resurrection of judgment.
I can of
myself
do nothing :
as I hear ,
I
judge:
and my judgment is righteous;
because I seek
not mine
own will, but the will of him that
sent me.
I can do nothing by
Myself;
I
judge
only
as I hear .
And My judgment is just,
because I do
not seek
My
own will, but the will of Him who
sent Me.
If I bear
witness
of
myself, my witness
is not true
.
If I testify
about
Myself, My testimony
is not valid
.
It
is another that
beareth
witness
of
me ;
and I know that the
witness
which
he
witnesseth
of
me is true
.
There
is another who
testifies
about
Me ,
and I know that His
testimony
about
Me is valid
.
Ye
have sent unto
John, and he hath
borne
witness
unto
the truth.
You
have sent to
John, and he has
testified
to
the truth.
But
the
witness
which
I receive
is
not from
man:
howbeit
I say these things ,
that ye
may be saved.
Even
though
I do
not accept
human
testimony,
I say these things so
that you
may be saved.
He
was the
lamp that burneth
and shineth;
and ye
were willing to
rejoice
for a season in his light.
John
was a
lamp that burned
and gave
light,
and you
were willing for a season to
bask
in his light.
But the
witness
which
I have is
greater
than `
that of '
John ;
for the works which
the Father hath
given me to accomplish ,
the very works that
I do,
bear
witness
of
me ,
that the Father hath
sent me.
But I have testimony
more
substantial
than that of John .
For the works that
the Father has
given Me to accomplish —
the very works I am
doing—testify
about
Me that the Father has
sent Me.
And the Father that
sent me ,
he
hath
borne
witness
of
me. Ye
have neither
heard his voice at
any
time,
nor seen his form .
And the Father who
sent Me has
Himself
testified
about
Me. You
have never
heard His voice nor seen His form ,
And
ye
have
not
his word abiding
in you :
for
whom
he
sent
, him
ye
believe
not.
nor
does
His word abide
in you, because
you
do
not believe
the
One
He
sent
.
Ye
search
the scriptures ,
because ye
think
that in
them ye
have
eternal life ;
and
these are they
which
bear
witness
of
me ;
You
pore
over
the Scriptures because you
presume
that by
them you
possess
eternal life .
These are the
very
words
that
testify
about
Me ,
and
ye
will
not
come to me ,
that
ye
may
have life.
yet
you
refuse
to
come to Me to
have life.
I receive
not glory from men .
I do
not accept
glory from men ,
But I know you, that ye
have
not the love of God in
yourselves
.
but I know you, that you
do
not have
the love of God within
you
.
I am
come in my Father's
name, and ye
receive
me
not :
if another
shall
come
in his own name, him
ye
will receive.
I have
come in My Father’s
name, and you
have
not received
Me;
but
if someone
else
comes
in his own name, you
will receive him
.
How can ye
believe ,
who
receive
glory one of
another, and
the glory that `cometh'
from the only God ye
seek
not
?
How can you
believe if
you
accept
glory from
one another, yet
do
not
seek
the glory that comes
from the only God?
Think
not that I will accuse you to
the Father :
there
is one
that
accuseth
you,
`even'
Moses, on
whom ye
have set
your hope.
Do
not think
that I will accuse you before
the Father .
Your
accuser
is Moses, in
whom you
have put
your hope.
For
if ye
believed Moses, ye
would believe me ;
for
he wrote of
me.
If you
had
believed Moses, you
would believe Me ,
because
he wrote about
Me.
But if
ye
believe
not his
writings
, how shall
ye
believe my
words
?
But since
you
do
not believe
what
he
wrote
, how will
you
believe what
I
say
? ”
