Berean Standard Bible
Now before the feast
of
the
passover, when
Jesus knew that his hour was
come that
he
should
depart
out
of
this world unto
the Father ,
having loved his own which
were in the world, he loved them unto
the end.
It
was
now just
before the Passover Feast
, and
Jesus knew that His hour had
come to
leave
this world and
return
to
the Father .
Having loved His own who
were in the world, He loved them to
the very
end.
And
supper
being
ended
, the devil having
now
put into the heart of Judas Iscariot
, Simon's
son, to betray him;
The
evening
meal
was
underway
, and
the devil had
already
put into the heart of Judas, the
son of
Simon
Iscariot
, to betray Jesus.
Jesus knowing
that the Father had given
all things into his hands, and that he was
come from God ,
and went
to God ;
Jesus knew
that the Father had delivered
all things into His hands, and that He had
come from God and was
returning
to God .
He riseth
from supper, and
laid aside his garments ;
and took
a towel ,
and
girded
himself
.
So
He got
up
from the
supper, laid aside His outer
garments ,
and wrapped
a towel around
His
waist
.
After that he poureth
water into a bason,
and began to wash the disciples '
feet ,
and to
wipe
them with the towel wherewith
he
was girded
.
After that ,
He poured
water into a basin
and began to wash the disciples ’
feet and dry
them with the towel that
was around
Him
.
Then
cometh
he to Simon Peter :
and
Peter
saith
unto
him, Lord, dost
thou
wash my feet?
He came
to Simon Peter ,
who
asked
Him, “
Lord, are
You
going
to
wash my feet? ”
Jesus answered
and
said
unto
him
, What
I
do thou
knowest
not now ;
but thou
shalt
know
hereafter
.
Jesus replied
, “You
do not realize
now what
I
am
doing,
but later
you
will
understand
. ”
Peter
saith
unto
him,
Thou
shalt
never wash my feet. Jesus answered him
, If
I wash thee
not
, thou
hast
no part with me.
“
Never shall
You
wash my feet !”
Peter
told
Him
. Jesus answered, “Unless
I wash you
, you
have
no part with Me. ”
Simon
Peter
saith
unto
him
, Lord, not my feet only
, but also
my hands and my head .
“Then
, Lord, ”
Simon
Peter
replied,
“
not only
my feet, but my hands and my head as
well!”
Jesus saith
to
him, He
that
is
washed
needeth
not
save
to wash his feet, but
is
clean every
whit:
and ye
are clean, but
not all.
Jesus told
him, “Whoever
has
already
bathed
needs
only
to wash his feet, and
he
will
be
completely
clean .
And you
are clean, though
not all of
you
. ”
For he knew who should
betray him ;
therefore
said
he, Ye
are
not all clean.
For He knew who would
betray Him .
That
is
why
He said
, “
Not all of
you
are
clean. ”
So
after
he
had washed their feet ,
and had
taken
his garments, and
was
set
down
again,
he said
unto
them, Know ye
what I have done to
you?
When
Jesus
had washed their feet and put
on
His outer
garments, He reclined
with
them again
and
asked
, “Do
you
know what I have done for
you?
Ye
call me Master
and Lord :
and ye
say
well;
for
so I am.
You
call Me Teacher
and Lord ,
and rightly
so ,
because
I am.
If I then
, your Lord and Master
, have washed your feet ;
ye
also ought
to
wash one another's
feet.
So
if I, your Lord and Teacher
, have washed your feet ,
you
also should
wash one another’s
feet.
For
I have given
you an example ,
that ye
should do as I have done to
you.
I have set
you an example so
that you
should do as I have done for
you.
Verily
, verily
, I say
unto
you, The
servant is not
greater than his lord;
neither
he
that
is sent
greater than he
that
sent him.
Truly
, truly
, I tell
you, no
servant is greater than his master,
nor
is a
messenger
greater than the
one
who
sent him.
If ye
know these things, happy
are
ye
if ye
do them.
If you
know these things, you
will
be
blessed
if you
do them.
I speak
not of you all:
I know whom I have chosen :
but that
the scripture may
be
fulfilled,
He
that
eateth
bread with
me
hath
lifted up his heel against me.
I am
not speaking
about
all
of you ;
I know whom I have chosen .
But this
is
to
fulfill
the Scripture :
‘The
one
who
shares
My
bread has
lifted up his heel against Me. ’
Now
I tell
you before it come
, that ,
when it is
come
to pass, ye
may
believe that I am he.
I am
telling
you now
before it happens
, so
that when it comes
to pass, you
will
believe that I am He.
Verily
, verily
, I say
unto
you, He
that
receiveth
whomsoever
I send receiveth
me ;
and he
that
receiveth
me receiveth
him
that
sent me.
Truly
, truly
, I tell
you, whoever
receives
the
one
I send receives
Me ,
and whoever
receives
Me receives
the
One
who
sent Me. ”
When
Jesus had thus
said, he was
troubled in spirit ,
and testified, and
said,
Verily
, verily
, I say
unto
you, that
one of you shall
betray me.
After
Jesus had said this
, He became
troubled in spirit and testified, “Truly
, truly
, I tell
you, one of you will
betray Me. ”
Then
the disciples looked one on
another, doubting
of whom
he spake
.
The disciples looked at
one another, perplexed
as
to
which
of them
He meant
.
Now
there
was
leaning
on
Jesus'
bosom
one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
One of His disciples, the
one
whom Jesus loved ,
was
reclining
at
His
side
.
Simon Peter therefore
beckoned
to him ,
that
he
should
ask who
it
should
be
of
whom
he spake
.
So
Simon Peter motioned
to him to
ask Jesus
which
one
He was
talking
about
.
He
then
lying
on
Jesus '
breast
saith
unto
him
, Lord, who is it?
Leaning
back
against
Jesus, he
asked,
“
Lord, who is it? ”
Jesus answered, He
it is ,
to whom I shall
give a
sop,
when
I have dipped it. And
when
he had
dipped the sop,
he
gave it to Judas Iscariot,
the
son of Simon.
Jesus answered, “
It is the
one
to whom I give this
morsel
after
I have dipped it. ”
Then
He dipped the morsel
and
gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot
.
And after
the sop
Satan entered into him. Then said
Jesus unto
him
, That
thou
doest
, do quickly.
And when
Judas
had
taken
the morsel,
Satan entered into him. Then Jesus said
to
Judas
, “What
you
are
about
to
do
, do quickly. ”
Now
no man
at the table knew for
what
intent
he
spake
this unto
him.
But
no one
at the table knew why
Jesus
had
said
this to
him.
For
some
of
them
thought,
because
Judas had
the bag, that Jesus had
said
unto
him ,
Buy those
things
that
we
have
need
of
against
the feast ;
or
, that
he
should
give something to the poor.
Since
Judas kept
the money
bag, some
thought
that Jesus was
telling
him to
buy what
was
needed
for
the feast, or
to
give something to the poor.
He then
having
received the sop
went immediately
out :
and
it
was
night.
As
soon
as
he had
received the morsel,
Judas
went out into
the
night.
Therefore,
when he
was
gone out, Jesus said, Now is
the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
When Judas
had
gone out, Jesus said, “
Now the Son of Man is
glorified, and God is glorified in Him.
If God be
glorified in him, God shall
also glorify him
in himself ,
and shall
straightway
glorify him.
If God is
glorified in Him, God will
also glorify the
Son
in Himself —
and will
glorify Him at
once
.
Little children, yet
a
little
while
I am with you. Ye
shall
seek
me :
and as I said unto
the Jews, Whither
I
go,
ye
cannot
come;
so now I say to you.
Little children, I am with you only
a
little
while
longer
. You
will
look
for
Me ,
and as I said to
the Jews, so now I say to you :
‘Where
I
am
going,
you
cannot
come
. ’
A new commandment I give unto
you ,
That
ye
love one another ;
as I have loved you, that
ye
also love one another.
A new commandment I give you :
Love one another .
As I have loved you, so
you
also must
love one another.
By this shall
all
men
know that ye
are my disciples, if ye
have
love one to
another.
By this everyone
will
know that you
are My disciples, if you
love one another. ”
Simon
Peter
said
unto
him,
Lord, whither
goest
thou
? Jesus answered him
, Whither
I go
, thou
canst
not
follow me now ;
but thou
shalt
follow me
afterwards
.
“
Lord, where
are
You
going
? ”
Simon
Peter
asked.
Jesus answered, “Where
I am
going
, you
cannot
follow Me now ,
but you
will
follow later
. ”
Peter
said
unto
him,
Lord, why cannot
I follow thee
now? I will lay down my life for thy
sake
.
“
Lord, ”
said
Peter,
“
why can’t
I follow You
now? I will lay down my life for You
. ”
Jesus
answered
him,
Wilt
thou
lay down thy
life for my
sake
? Verily
, verily
, I say
unto
thee
, The cock
shall
not
crow
, till
thou
hast
denied
me thrice
.
“Will
you
lay down your
life for Me
? ”
Jesus
replied.
“Truly
, truly
, I tell
you
, before
the rooster
crows
, you
will
deny
Me three
times
.
