“Indeed
, my
eyes
have
seen all this ;
my
ears
have
heard and understood.
Lo
, mine
eye
hath
seen all `
this ',
Mine
ear
hath
heard and understood it
.
What you
know, I also
know ;
I am not inferior to
you.
What ye
know, `the
same'
do
I know also:
I am not inferior unto
you.
Yet
I desire
to
speak to the Almighty and argue
my
case
before
God.
Surely
I would
speak to the Almighty ,
And I
desire
to
reason
with
God.
You,
however,
smear
with
lies; you
are all worthless
physicians.
But
ye
are
forgers
of
lies; Ye
are all physicians of
no
value
.
If
only
you
would
remain
silent;
for
that would be your wisdom !
Oh
that ye
would altogether
hold
your
peace!
And
it
would
be your wisdom .
Hear now my argument
, and listen
to the plea
of my lips.
Hear now my reasoning
, And hearken
to the pleadings
of my lips.
Will you
speak
wickedly
on
God’s
behalf
or
speak deceitfully for Him?
Will ye
speak unrighteously
for
God,
And
talk
deceitfully for him?
Would
you
show Him
partiality or
argue
in
His
defense
?
Will
ye
show partiality to
him
? Will
ye
contend
for
God?
Would
it be
well
when
He examined
you? Could
you
deceive
Him
like
a man?
Is
it good
that
he should
search
you out
? Or
as
one
deceiveth
a man ,
will
ye
deceive
him
?
Surely
He would
rebuke
you if you
secretly showed
partiality.
He will
surely
reprove
you If ye
do
secretly show
partiality.
Would
His majesty not
terrify
you ?
Would
the
dread of
Him
not
fall upon you?
Shall
not
his majesty make
you afraid,
And
his
dread fall upon you?
Your maxims
are proverbs of ashes ;
your defenses
are defenses
of clay.
Your memorable
sayings
are proverbs of ashes ,
Your defences
are defences
of clay.
Be
silent
, and
I will
speak .
Then
let come to
me what may
.
Hold
your
peace
, let
me
alone,
that
I may
speak ;
And
let come on
me what will
.
Why
do
I put
myself
at
risk
and
take my life in my own
hands
?
Wherefore
should
I take my flesh
in
my
teeth,
And
put
my
life in my hand
?
Though
He slay me ,
I will
hope in
Him.
I will still
defend
my ways to
His
face
.
Behold,
he will
slay me ;
I have
no
hope :
Nevertheless
I will maintain
my ways before
him
.
Moreover,
this will
be my salvation, for
no
godless man can
appear
before Him.
This also
shall
be my salvation, That
a
godless man shall
not
come
before him.
Listen
carefully
to
my words;
let my declaration ring
in your ears.
Hear
diligently
my speech,
And
let my declaration be
in your ears.
Behold ,
now that
I have prepared
my case,
I know that I will
be
vindicated
.
Behold now ,
I have set
my cause
in
order;
I know that I am
righteous
.
Can
anyone
indict
me? If
so,
I will
be
silent
and die
.
Who
is
he
that
will
contend
with
me? For
then
would
I hold
my
peace
and give
up
the
ghost
.
Only grant
these
two things to
me ,
so
that
I need
not hide from You
:
Only do
not
two things unto
me ;
Then
will
I not hide myself
from thy
face
:
Withdraw Your
hand from me ,
and do
not
let Your
terror frighten
me.
Withdraw thy
hand far
from me ;
And let not
thy
terror make
me afraid
.
Then call me
, and I will answer ,
or let me speak, and You
can
reply
.
Then call thou
, and I will answer ;
Or let me speak, and answer
thou
me
.
How many are my
iniquities and sins? Reveal
to
me my transgression and sin.
How many are mine
iniquities and sins? Make
me to
know
my transgression and my
sin.
Why
do
You
hide
Your
face and consider
me as
Your
enemy?
Wherefore
hidest
thou
thy
face ,
And holdest
me for
thine
enemy?
Would
You
frighten
a windblown
leaf? Would
You
chase
after
dry chaff
?
Wilt
thou
harass
a driven
leaf? And
wilt
thou
pursue
the
dry stubble
?
For You
record
bitter accusations
against me and bequeath
to
me the iniquities of my youth .
For thou
writest
bitter things
against me ,
And makest
me to
inherit
the iniquities of my youth :
You
put
my feet in the stocks and stand
watch
over
all my paths; You
set
a limit
for
the soles of my feet .
Thou
puttest
my feet also
in the stocks ,
And markest
all my paths; Thou
settest
a bound
to
the soles of my feet :
So
man
wastes
away
like something
rotten, like a moth-eaten garment
.
Though
I
am
like a
rotten thing
that
consumeth
, Like a garment
that
is
moth-eaten.
