Thus
says Yahweh
: Behold, I will raise
up against Babylon ,
and against those
who
dwell
in
Lebkamai,
a destroying
wind
.
This
is
what
the
LORD
says: “
Behold, I will stir
up against Babylon and against the
people
of
Leb-kamai
the
spirit
of
a destroyer
.
I will send to Babylon strangers,
who
shall
winnow her ;
and they
shall
empty her land :
for in
the
day
of
trouble
they shall
be
against her round
about
.
I will send strangers
to Babylon to
winnow her and empty her land ;
for they will
come
against her from
every
side
in
her
day
of
disaster
.
Against
[him
who]
bends
let the archer bend his bow ,
and
against
[him
who]
lifts
himself
up
in
his coat
of
mail:
and
don't
you
spare her young men; destroy
you
utterly
all her host.
Do
not
let the archer bend his bow or
put
on
his armor.
Do
not
spare her young men; devote
all her army
to
destruction!
They shall
fall down
slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust
through in her streets.
And
they will
fall slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and pierced
through in her streets.
For Israel is
not
forsaken,
nor
Judah ,
of
his
God, of
Yahweh
of Hosts ;
though their land is full of guilt against
the Holy One of Israel.
For Israel and
Judah have
not
been
abandoned
by
their
God, the
LORD
of Hosts ,
though their land is full of guilt before
the Holy One of Israel. ”
Flee out
of
the
midst
of
Babylon ,
and
save
every
man
his
life;
don't
be cut
off
in her iniquity:
for it
is the time of Yahweh's
vengeance; he will render
to
her a
recompense
.
Flee from
Babylon !
Escape
with
your
lives!
Do
not
be destroyed
in her punishment.
For this
is the time of the
LORD’s
vengeance; He will pay
her what
she
deserves
.
Babylon has
been
a golden
cup in Yahweh's
hand, who
made
all
the earth drunken:
the nations have
drunk
of
her wine; therefore the nations are
mad.
Babylon was
a gold
cup in the
hand of
the
LORD
, making
the whole
earth drunk.
The nations drank
her wine; therefore the nations have
gone
mad.
Babylon
is
suddenly fallen and destroyed:
wail for her; take
balm for her pain ,
if
so
be
she may
be healed.
Suddenly Babylon
has
fallen and been
shattered.
Wail for her; get
her
balm for her pain ;
perhaps
she can
be healed.
We would
have
healed
Babylon, but she is
not healed :
forsake
her ,
and
let us go everyone
into
his own country;
for her judgment reaches
to heaven,
and is
lifted
up
even
to the skies
.
“
We tried
to
heal
Babylon, but she could
not be
healed .
Abandon
her !
Let each
of
us go to
his own land,
for her judgment extends
to the
sky
and reaches
to the clouds
. ”
Yahweh
has brought forth our righteousness:
come, and
let us declare
in Zion the work
of
Yahweh
our God.
“The
LORD
has brought forth our vindication;
come, let us tell
in Zion what
the LORD
our God has
accomplished
. ”
Make
sharp
the arrows ;
hold
firm
the shields:
Yahweh
has stirred
up
the spirit of the kings of the Medes ;
because his purpose
is against
Babylon ,
to destroy it:
for it is the vengeance of Yahweh,
the vengeance of
his temple.
Sharpen
the arrows !
Fill
the quivers!
The
LORD
has aroused
the spirit of the kings of the Medes ,
because His plan
is aimed
at
Babylon to destroy her,
for it is the vengeance of the LORD—
vengeance for
His temple.
Set
up
a standard
against the walls of Babylon ,
make
the watch
strong,
set
the watchmen ,
prepare the ambushes;
for Yahweh
has both purposed
and done
that
which
he spoke concerning
the inhabitants
of Babylon.
Raise
a banner
against the walls of Babylon ;
post
the guard;
station
the watchmen ;
prepare the ambush.
For the
LORD
has both devised
and accomplished
what
He spoke against
the people
of Babylon.
You who dwell on
many waters, abundant
in treasures, your end is
come ,
the measure
of your covetousness
.
You who dwell by
many waters, rich
in treasures, your end has
come ;
the thread
of your life
is
cut
.
Yahweh
of Hosts has sworn by himself ,
[saying],
Surely I will fill you with men ,
as with the
canker-worm;
and they shall
lift
up
a
shout against
you.
The
LORD
of Hosts has sworn by Himself :
“
Surely I will fill you up
with men as with locusts,
and they will
shout in
triumph
over
you. ”
He
has
made the earth by his power ,
he has
established the world by his wisdom ,
and by
his
understanding
has
he
stretched out the heavens :
The
LORD
made the earth by His power ;
He established the world by His wisdom and stretched out the heavens by
His
understanding.
when he utters
his
voice
, there
is
a
tumult
of
waters in the heavens ,
and
he causes the vapors
to ascend
from the ends of the earth ;
he makes
lightnings
for
the rain ,
and brings forth the wind out
of
his treasuries
.
When He thunders
, the
waters in the heavens roar;
He causes the clouds
to rise
from the ends of the earth .
He generates
the lightning
with
the
rain and brings forth the wind from
His storehouses
.
Every man is become
brutish
[
and is]
without
knowledge; every goldsmith is disappointed
by his image;
for his molten image
is
falsehood
, and there is no breath in them.
Every man is senseless
and devoid
of
knowledge; every goldsmith is put
to
shame
by his idols.
For his molten images
are
a
fraud
, and there is no breath in them.
They are vanity
, a work of
delusion:
in the time of their visitation
they shall
perish.
They are worthless
, a work to
be
mocked.
In the time of their punishment
they will
perish.
The portion of Jacob is not like these ;
for he is the former
of all things ;
and [Israel]
is
the tribe of his inheritance :
Yahweh
of Hosts is his name.

and of

the
LORD
of Hosts is His name.
You are my battle-axe
and
weapons
of
war :
and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
the
nations; and
with you will
I destroy
kingdoms ;
“
You are My war club,
My
weapon
for
battle.
With you I shatter
nations; with you I bring
kingdoms to
ruin.
and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
the horse and his
rider;
With you I shatter
the horse and rider; with
you
I
shatter
the
chariot
and
driver.
and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
the
chariot
and
him
who
rides
therein;
and
with
you
will
I
break
in
pieces
man and woman; and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
the old man and the youth; and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
the young man and the virgin;
With you I shatter
man and woman; with you I shatter
the old man and the youth; with you I shatter
the young man and the maiden.
and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
the shepherd and his flock; and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
the farmer and his yoke
[of
oxen ]
; and
with you will
I break
in
pieces
governors and deputies
.
With you I shatter
the shepherd and his flock; with you I shatter

.
I will render
to
Babylon and to
all the inhabitants
of Chaldea all their
evil that
they have done in Zion in
your
sight
, says
Yahweh
.
Before
your
very
eyes
I will repay
Babylon and all the dwellers
of Chaldea for
all the
evil they have done in Zion, ”
declares
the
LORD
.
Behold, I am against you, destroying mountain, says
Yahweh,
which
destroy
all
the earth ;
and
I will stretch out my hand on
you ,
and
roll you down
from
the rocks,
and will
make
you a burnt
mountain.
“
Behold, I am against you, O
destroying mountain, you
who
devastate
the whole
earth ,
declares
the
LORD.
I will stretch out My hand against
you ;
I
will
roll you over
the cliffs
and turn
you into
a charred
mountain.
They
shall not
take
of
you a stone
for
a
corner,
nor
a stone for
foundations;
but
you shall
be
desolate for
ever
, says
Yahweh
.
No
one
shall retrieve
from
you a cornerstone
or
a foundation
stone ,
because
you will
become
desolate forever
, ”
declares
the
LORD
.
Set
up
a standard
in the land ,
blow the trumpet
among the nations ,
prepare the nations against her ,
call
together
against
her
the kingdoms of
Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz :
appoint a marshal
against her; cause
the
horses
to
come
up as
the
rough
canker-worm
.
“Raise
a banner
in the land !
Blow the ram’s
horn
among the nations !
Prepare the nations against her .
Summon
the kingdoms against
her—
Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz .
Appoint a captain
against her; bring
up horses
like
swarming
locusts
.
Prepare against
her
the nations ,
the kings of the Medes, the
governors of
it,
and all the
deputies
of
it
, and all the land
of
their
dominion
.
Prepare the nations for
battle
against
her—
the kings of the Medes, their
governors and all their
officials
, and all the lands
they
rule
.
The land
trembles
and is
in
pain;
for
the purposes
of
Yahweh
against Babylon do
stand ,
to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.
The earth
quakes
and writhes
because
the LORD’s
intentions
against Babylon stand :
to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.
The mighty
men
of Babylon have forborne
to
fight,
they remain
in their strongholds ;
their might
has
failed
; they are
become as
women :
her
dwelling-places
are
set on
fire;
her
bars are broken.
The warriors
of Babylon have stopped
fighting;
they sit
in their strongholds .
Their strength
is
exhausted
; they have
become like
women .
Babylon’s
homes
have
been
set ablaze,
the
bars of
her
gates
are broken.
One post
shall
run
to meet another, and one
messenger to
met
another
, to show
the king of Babylon that his city is
taken
on
every
quarter:
One courier
races
to meet another, and messenger follows
messenger
, to announce
to
the king of Babylon that his city has
been
captured
from
end
to
end.
and
the passages
are
seized, and
the reeds
they
have
burned
with
fire, and the men
of
war
are frightened
.
The fords
have
been
seized, the marshes
set
on
fire, and the soldiers
are terrified
. ”
For thus
says
Yahweh
of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when
it is trodden;
yet
a little while ,
and
the
time
of
harvest shall
come for
her
.
For this
is
what
the
LORD
of Hosts, the God of Israel ,
says
: “
The Daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time it is trampled.
In
just
a little while her
harvest time
will
come. ”
Nebuchadrezzar
the
king of Babylon has devoured me ,
he has crushed me ,
he has made
me an empty vessel ,
he has ,
like a monster ,
swallowed
me
up,
he has
filled his maw
with my delicacies ;
he
has
cast
me out.
“Nebuchadnezzar
king of Babylon has devoured me ;
he has crushed me .
He has set
me aside
like
an empty vessel ;
he has swallowed
me
like a monster ;
he filled his belly
with my delicacies and
vomited
me out.
The violence done to me and to my flesh be on
Babylon, shall
the inhabitant
of Zion say;
and,
My blood be on the inhabitants
of Chaldea, shall
Jerusalem say
.
May
the violence done to me and to my flesh be upon
Babylon, ”
says
the dweller
of Zion .
“May
my blood be on the dwellers
of Chaldea, ”
says
Jerusalem.
Therefore thus
says Yahweh
: Behold, I will plead your cause,
and take vengeance for
you
; and
I will dry up her sea ,
and make her fountain
dry.
Therefore this
is
what
the
LORD
says: “
Behold, I will plead your case
and take vengeance on
your
behalf
; I will dry up her sea and make her springs
run
dry.
Babylon shall
become heaps
, a dwelling-place
for jackals, an astonishment,
and a
hissing
, without inhabitant.
Babylon will
become a
heap
of
rubble
, a haunt
for jackals, an object
of
horror
and scorn
, without inhabitant.
They shall
roar together like young lions; they shall
growl as
lions'
cubs.
They will
roar together like young lions; they will

lion
cubs.
When
they are heated
, I will make
their
feast, and I will make them drunken,
that they may rejoice,
and
sleep
a
perpetual
sleep,
and not
wake, says
Yahweh
.
While
they are flushed
with
heat
, I will serve
them

so
that they may revel;
then
they
will
fall
asleep
forever
and never
wake up
, declares
the
LORD
.
I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.

among the nations!
How Sheshach has

! The praise of all

What
a
horror
Babylon has
become among the nations!
The sea is
come up on
Babylon; she is covered with
the
multitude
of
the
waves of
it
.
The sea has
come up over
Babylon; she is covered in
turbulent
waves.
Her cities are
become a desolation, a dry land,
and a
desert
, a land in
which
no man
dwells
, neither
does
any
son of man pass
thereby
.
Her cities have

through

I will execute
judgment
on
Bel in Babylon ,
and
I will bring
forth
out of
his
mouth
that
which
he has
swallowed up;

I will punish
Bel in Babylon .
I will make
him
spew
out what
he swallowed .
The nations will

longer
stream
to him ;

the wall of Babylon will

My
people,
go
you
out of the
midst
of
her, and
save yourselves
every
man
from the fierce anger of Yahweh
.
Come
out of her, My
people!
Save your
lives,
each
of
you,
from the fierce anger of the
LORD
.
Don't
let your heart faint, neither
fear
for
the
news
that
shall
be heard in the land; for news
shall
come one year ,
and after
that
in
another year [shall
come]
news,
and
violence in the land ,
ruler against ruler.
Do
not
let your heart grow
faint, and
do
not
be afraid
when
the
rumor
is
heard in the land; for a
rumor
will
come one year —
and then
another the
next
year —
of
violence in the land and
of
ruler against ruler.
Therefore, behold, the days come,
that
I will execute
judgment
on
the engraved
images
of Babylon ;
and
her whole
land shall
be
confounded;
and all her slain shall
fall
in
the
midst
of
her.
Therefore, behold, the days are
coming
when
I will punish
the idols
of Babylon .
Her entire
land will
suffer
shame,
and all her slain will
lie
fallen
within
her.
Then the
heavens
and the
earth ,
and all that is therein,
shall
sing
for joy over Babylon ;
for
the destroyers shall
come
to
her
from the north, says
Yahweh
.
Then heaven
and earth and all that is in
them
will
shout
for joy over Babylon because
the destroyers from the north will
come
against
her
, ”
declares
the
LORD
.
As
Babylon has
caused
the slain of Israel to
fall
, so
at
Babylon
shall
fall
the slain of all the land
.
“
Babylon must
fall
on
account
of
the slain of Israel, just
as
the slain of all the earth
have
fallen
because
of
Babylon
.
You who have escaped the sword, go
you,
don't
stand
still;
remember Yahweh
from afar
, and let Jerusalem come into
your
mind.
You who have escaped the sword, depart
and
do
not
linger!
Remember the
LORD
from far
away
, and let Jerusalem come to
mind. ”
We are confounded,
because we have heard reproach; confusion
has covered our faces :
for
strangers
are
come
into
the sanctuaries
of Yahweh's
house.
“
We are ashamed
because we have heard reproach; disgrace
has covered our faces ,
because
foreigners
have
entered
the holy
places
of the
LORD’s
house. ”
Therefore, behold, the days come
, says
Yahweh
, that
I will execute
judgment
on
her engraved
images;
and through
all
her land the wounded shall
groan.
“
Therefore, behold, the days are
coming
, ”
declares
the
LORD
, “when
I will punish
her idols,
and throughout
her land the wounded will
groan.
Though
Babylon should
mount
up
to the sky,
and though
she
should
fortify
the
height
of
her strength
, yet
from
me
shall
destroyers come to
her, says
Yahweh
.
Even
if
Babylon ascends
to the heavens
and fortifies
her lofty
stronghold
, the
destroyers I
send
will
come against
her, ”
declares
the
LORD
.
The sound of a cry from Babylon, and
of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
“
The sound of a cry comes
from Babylon, the
sound
of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!
For Yahweh
lays
Babylon waste,
and
destroys
out
of
her the
great
voice ;
and
their
waves roar like many
waters; the noise
of their voice
is
uttered:
For the
LORD
will
destroy
Babylon ;
He
will
silence
her mighty
voice .
The
waves will
roar like great
waters; the tumult
of their voices
will
resound.
for the
destroyer is come
on
her ,
even
on
Babylon ,
and
her mighty
men
are
taken
, their bows are
broken in
pieces;
for Yahweh
is a God of recompenses,
he will surely
requite
.
For a
destroyer is coming
against
her —
against
Babylon .
Her warriors
will
be
captured
, and
their bows will
be
broken ,
for the
LORD
is a God of retribution;
He will repay
in
full
.
I will make drunk
her princes and her
wise men, her governors and
her
deputies
, and
her
mighty
men;
and they shall
sleep
a
perpetual
sleep,
and not wake up, says
the King, whose name is Yahweh
of Hosts.
I will make her princes and wise men drunk
, along
with
her governors, officials,
and warriors.
Then
they will
fall
asleep
forever
and not wake up, ”
declares
the King, whose name is the
LORD
of Hosts.
Thus
says
Yahweh
of hosts: The
broad
walls of
Babylon
shall
be utterly
overthrown
, and her high gates shall
be
burned
with
fire ;
and
the peoples
shall
labor for vanity,
and
the nations for
the fire;
and
they
shall
be
weary
.
This
is
what
the
LORD
of Hosts says
: “Babylon’s
thick
walls will
be leveled
, and her high gates consumed
by
fire .
So
the labor of
the
people
will
be
for nothing;
the nations will
exhaust
themselves
to
fuel
the flames
. ”
The word
which
Jeremiah the prophet commanded
Seraiah
the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah
the
king of Judah to
Babylon
in the fourth year of his
reign. Now
Seraiah
was
chief
chamberlain.
This
is
the message
that
Jeremiah the prophet gave
to
the quartermaster
Seraiah
son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went to
Babylon
with King Zedekiah
of Judah in the fourth year of Zedekiah’s
reign.
Jeremiah wrote
in
a book
all the evil
that should
come on
Babylon ,
even
all these words that are
written concerning Babylon.
Jeremiah had
written
on
a single
scroll
about
all the disaster
that would
come upon
Babylon —
all these words that had
been
written concerning Babylon.
Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When you come
to Babylon, then
see that you read all these words,
And
Jeremiah said to Seraiah, “
When you get
to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud
,
and say, Yahweh
, you have spoken
concerning
this
place,
to cut it
off ,
that none
shall
dwell
therein,
neither man nor animal
, but
that
it shall
be desolate forever.
and say, ‘O
LORD
, You have promised
to cut off this
place
so
that no
one
will
remain—
neither man nor beast.
Indeed
, it will
be desolate forever. ’
It
shall
be,
when you have
made
an
end
of
reading this book
, that
you
shall
bind
a stone to it ,
and cast it into the midst
of
the
Euphrates :
When you finish
reading this scroll
, tie
a stone to it and cast it into the Euphrates .
and
you shall
say, Thus
shall
Babylon sink ,
and shall
not
rise again because of the evil
that
I will bring on
her ;
and they
shall
be
weary. Thus
far
are
the words of Jeremiah.
Then
you are
to
say, ‘In
the
same
way
Babylon will
sink and never
rise again ,
because of the disaster
I will bring upon
her .
And her
people
will
grow
weary. ’”
