At that time Merodach -
baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift
to Hezekiah ,
for he had
heard about
Hezekiah’s
illness
and recovery
.
At that time Merodach Baladan the
son of Baladan ,
king of Babylon ,
sent letters and a present
to Hezekiah ;
for he heard that
he
had
been
sick,
and was
recovered
.
And
Hezekiah welcomed
the
envoys
gladly
and showed
them what
was
in
his
treasure
house —
the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as
well
as
his entire
armory—
all that was found in his storehouses.
There was nothing in his palace
or
in all his dominion that Hezekiah did
not
show them.
Hezekiah was
glad
of
them,
and shown
them the
house of
his
precious
things,
the silver, and
the gold, and
the spices, and the precious oil, and
all
the
house
of
his armor,
and
all that was found in his treasures:
there was nothing in his house,
nor
in all his dominion ,
that Hezekiah didn't
show them.
Then the prophet Isaiah
went
to King Hezekiah and asked
, “Where
did
those
men come
from,
and what
did
they say
to you? ”
“
They came
to
me
from a distant
land,”
Hezekiah
replied
, “
from Babylon. ”
Then came
Isaiah
the prophet to king Hezekiah ,
and said
to
him
, What
said
these
men ?
and from
whence
came
they to you? Hezekiah
said,
They are
come
from a far
country
to
me
, even
from Babylon.
“
What have they seen in your palace
? ”
Isaiah
asked.
“They
have
seen
everything
in my palace,”
answered
Hezekiah.
“
There is nothing among my treasures that I did
not show
them. ”
Then
said
he,
What have they seen in your house
? Hezekiah
answered,
All
that
is
in my house
have
they
seen:
there is nothing among my treasures that I have
not shown
them.
Then Isaiah
said to Hezekiah, “
Hear the word of the
LORD
of Hosts:
Then said Isaiah
to Hezekiah, Hear the word of Yahweh
of Hosts:
The time
will
surely
come
when everything
in your palace
and all
that your fathers have stored
up until this day will
be carried off
to Babylon .
Nothing will
be left, says the
LORD
.
Behold,
the days
are
coming,
when all
that
is
in your house,
and that which
your fathers have laid
up in
store
until this day ,
shall
be carried to Babylon :
nothing shall
be left, says Yahweh
.
And
some
of your descendants
, your
own
flesh
and
blood
, will
be
taken
away to
be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. ”
Of your sons
who
shall
issue
from
you
, whom
you
shall
father
, shall
they
take
away ;
and
they
shall
be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.
But
Hezekiah
said to Isaiah, “
The word of the
LORD
that
you have spoken is
good
. ”
For
he thought
, “At
least
there will
be peace and security
in my lifetime
. ”
Then
said Hezekiah
to Isaiah, Good
is
the word of Yahweh
which
you have spoken. He said
moreover
, For
there shall
be peace and truth
in my days
.
