Let
us
fear
therefore, lest
haply,
a
promise being
left
of entering into
his rest, any
one
of you should
seem
to have come
short of it.
Therefore, while
the
promise of entering His rest still
stands
, let
us
be
careful
that
none
of you be
deemed
to have fallen
short of it.
For indeed
we have
had
good tidings
preached
unto
us,
even
as also
they :
but the word
of hearing
did
not
profit
them, because
it
was
not united
by
faith with
them
that
heard
.
For we also
received
the
good news
just
as they did;
but the message
they
heard
was
of no
value
to
them, since
they
did
not share
the
faith of
those
who
comprehended
it
.
For
we who have believed do
enter into
that rest ;
even
as he
hath
said
, As I sware
in my wrath
, They shall not
enter into
my rest :
although
the
works were
finished from
the foundation of the world.
Now
we who have believed enter that rest .
As for
the
others
, it
is
just
as God
has
said:
“So
I swore
on
oath
in My anger
, ‘
They shall never
enter My rest .’”
And
yet
His
works have
been
finished since
the foundation of the world.
For he
hath
said
somewhere of
the seventh `
day '
on
this wise,
And God
rested
on the seventh day from all his works ;
For somewhere He
has
spoken
about
the seventh day in
this manner:
“
And on the seventh day God
rested
from all His works .”
and in
this
`place'
again, They shall not
enter into
my rest.
And again, as
He
says
in
the
passage
above:
“
They shall never
enter My rest. ”
Seeing
therefore
it remaineth
that
some should
enter thereinto
, and they
to
whom
the good tidings
were
before
preached
failed
to
enter in
because of disobedience,
Since,
then,
it remains
for
some to
enter His
rest
, and since
those
who
formerly
heard
the good news
did
not
enter because of their
disobedience,
he
again defineth
a certain day ,
To-day
, saying
in
David
so
long
a time afterward
(even
as hath
been
said
before)
, To-day
if ye
shall
hear his voice, Harden
not your hearts.
God
again designated
a certain day as
“Today
, ”
when
a long
time later
He
spoke
through
David
as was
just
stated:
“Today
, if you
hear His voice, do
not harden
your hearts. ”
For if Joshua had given them rest, he
would not have spoken afterward
of
another day.
For if Joshua had given them rest, God
would not have spoken later
about
another day.
There remaineth
therefore
a sabbath rest for the people of God.
There remains,
then,
a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
For he
that
is
entered
into
his
rest hath
himself
also rested
from his works
, as God did from his.
For whoever
enters
God’s
rest also rests
from his own
work
, just
as God did from His.
Let us therefore give
diligence
to enter into
that rest, that no man
fall after
the same example
of disobedience.
Let us ,
therefore ,
make
every
effort
to enter that rest, so
that no one
will
fall by
following
the same pattern
of disobedience.
For the word of God is living ,
and active ,
and
sharper than any two
-edged sword, and
piercing
even to the
dividing of
soul and spirit, of
both
joints and marrow ,
and
quick
to
discern
the thoughts and intents
of the heart.
For the word of God is living and active .
Sharper than any double
-edged sword, it
pierces
even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow .
It
judges
the thoughts and intentions
of the heart.
And
there
is
no
creature
that
is
not
manifest
in his
sight:
but
all things
are
naked
and laid
open
before the eyes of him with
whom we have
to
do
.
Nothing
in all creation
is
hidden
from
God’s
sight;
everything
is
uncovered
and exposed
before the eyes of Him to
whom we must
give
account
.
Having
then
a great high priest ,
who hath
passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast
our
confession
.
Therefore,
since
we
have
a great high priest who has
passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly
to
what
we
profess
.
For we have
not a high priest that
cannot
be
touched
with the
feeling
of
our infirmities;
but one that
hath
been
in
all
points
tempted like
as
`
we are, yet '
without sin.
For we do
not have
a high priest who
is
unable
to
sympathize
with our weaknesses,
but we
have
one who
was
tempted in
every
way
that
we are, yet was
without sin.
Let us therefore
draw
near
with
boldness
unto
the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy ,
and may
find grace to help `
us '
in time of need.
Let us then
approach
the throne of grace with
confidence
, so
that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our
time of need.
