This
is
a prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according
to Shigionoth :
A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, set
to Shigionoth .
O LORD
, I have heard the report of You;
I
stand
in
awe
, O LORD
, of
Your
deeds.
Revive them
in these
years; make
them
known
in these
years .
In Your
wrath ,
remember mercy !
O Jehovah
, I have heard the report of thee
, and
am
afraid:
O Jehovah
, revive thy
work
in the
midst
of
the
years; In the
midst
of
the
years make
it
known;
In wrath remember mercy .
God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah His glory covered the heavens, and His
praise
filled
the earth.
God came from Teman, And the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah .
His glory covered the heavens, And the earth was
full
of
his
praise
.
His radiance
was like
the sunlight
; rays flashed
from His hand ,
where
His power is
hidden
.
And
`
his '
brightness
was as
the light
; He
had
rays `coming
forth'
from his hand ;
And
there
was
the
hiding
of
his power.
Plague
went
before Him, and fever
followed
in
His steps
.
Before him went
the
pestilence
, And fiery
bolts
went
forth
at
his feet
.
He stood and measured the earth; He looked
and startled
the nations; the ancient
mountains crumbled
; the perpetual
hills collapsed.
His ways
are
everlasting
.
He stood ,
and measured the earth; He beheld,
and drove
asunder
the nations; And
the eternal
mountains were
scattered
; The everlasting
hills did
bow;
His goings
were
`as'
of
old
.
I saw the tents of Cushan in distress
; the curtains of Midian were
trembling
.
I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction
; The curtains of the
land
of
Midian did
tremble
.
Were
You
angry
at
the rivers ,
O
LORD
? Was Your
wrath
against the streams?
Did
You
rage
against the sea when
You
rode
on
Your
horses, on
Your
chariots of salvation?
Was
Jehovah
displeased
with
the rivers? Was thine
anger
against the rivers,
Or
thy
wrath
against the sea ,
That
thou
didst
ride
upon
thy
horses, Upon
thy
chariots of salvation?
You
brandished
Your
bow; You
called
for
many
arrows
. Selah You
split
the earth with rivers.
Thy
bow was
made
quite
bare
; The
oaths
to
the
tribes
were
a
`sure'
word
. Selah .
Thou
didst
cleave
the earth with rivers.
The mountains saw You
and quaked
; torrents
of water
swept
by .
The deep roared
with
its voice and lifted its hands on high.
The mountains saw thee,
and were
afraid
; The
tempest
of waters
passed
by ;
The deep uttered
its voice ,
And lifted up
its hands on high.
Sun and moon stood still in their places
at the flash
of Your
flying
arrows, at the brightness
of
Your
shining spear.
The
sun and moon stood still in their habitation,
At the light
of thine
arrows as
they
went
, At the shining of
thy
glittering
spear.
You
marched
across
the earth
with
fury
; You
threshed
the nations in wrath
.
Thou
didst
march
though
the land
in
indignation
; Thou
didst
thresh
the nations in anger
.
You
went
forth for the salvation of Your
people, to
save
Your
anointed .
You
crushed
the head of the house of the wicked and
stripped
him
from
head
to
toe
. Selah
Thou
wentest
forth for the salvation of thy
people, For
the
salvation
of
thine
anointed ;
Thou
woundest
the head out
of the house of the wicked man,
Laying
bare
the
foundation
even
unto
the
neck
. Selah .
With his own spear
You
pierced
his
head ,
when
his warriors stormed
out
to scatter us,
gloating
as though
ready
to secretly
devour the weak
.
Thou
didst
pierce
with his own staves
the
head of
his warriors :
They
came
as
a
whirlwind
to scatter me;
Their
rejoicing
was
as to devour the poor
secretly
.
You
trampled
the sea with Your
horses, churning
the great
waters.
Thou
didst
tread
the sea with thy
horses, The heap
of
mighty
waters.
I heard and trembled within;
my lips quivered at the sound.
Decay
entered
my bones ;
I
trembled
where
I stood.
Yet
I must wait patiently
for the day of distress
to
come
upon
the people who
invade
us.
I heard ,
and my
body
trembled ,
My lips quivered at the voice;
Rottenness
entereth
into
my bones ,
and
I tremble
in
my
place;
Because
I must wait quietly
for the day of trouble,
For
the coming
up
of
the
people that
invadeth
us.
Though the fig tree does
not bud
and
no
fruit is
on
the vines ,
though
the olive crop
fails
and the fields produce
no food ,
though
the sheep
are
cut off from the fold and no cattle
are
in the stalls ,
For
though the fig -
tree shall
not flourish,
Neither
shall
fruit be
in
the vines ;
The labor
of
the
olive shall
fail,
And the fields shall
yield
no food ;
The flock
shall
be
cut off from the fold ,
And there
shall
be
no herd
in the stalls :
yet I will exult
in the
LORD;
I will rejoice
in the God of my salvation !
Yet I will rejoice
in Jehovah,
I will joy
in the God of my salvation .
GOD
the Lord is my strength; He makes
my feet like those
of
a
deer;
He
makes
me walk upon the
heights!
For
the
choirmaster.
With
stringed
instruments
.
Jehovah,
the Lord ,
is my strength; And
he maketh
my feet like hinds'
`feet',
And
will
make
me to
walk upon my
high
places
.
