King James Version
Now the serpent was more crafty
than any beast of the field that
the LORD God had made. And he said to
the woman, “Did
God really
say
, ‘You
must
not eat from
any
tree in
the garden? ’”
Now the serpent was more subtil
than any beast of the field which
the LORD God had made. And he said unto
the woman, Yea,
hath
God said
, Ye
shall
not eat of
every
tree of
the garden?
The woman answered
the serpent, “
We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden ,
And
the woman said
unto
the serpent, We may eat of
the fruit of the trees of the garden :
but about
the fruit of the tree in the middle
of the garden, God has
said, ‘You
must
not eat of it or
touch it, or
you
will
die. ’”
But of
the fruit of the tree which
is
in the midst
of the garden, God hath
said, Ye
shall
not eat of it ,
neither
shall
ye
touch it, lest
ye
die.
“You
will
not surely die ,”
the
serpent
told
her.
And
the
serpent
said
unto
the
woman,
Ye
shall
not surely die :
“
For God knows
that in the day you
eat of
it
, your eyes will
be opened and you
will
be like
God
, knowing good and evil. ”
For God doth
know
that in the day ye
eat thereof
, then
your eyes shall
be opened ,
and ye
shall
be as
gods
, knowing good and evil.
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food and pleasing
to the eyes, and that
it
was
desirable
for
obtaining
wisdom
, she took the fruit and ate
it.
She
also
gave some
to
her husband who
was
with her ,
and he ate
it
.
And
when the woman saw that the tree was good for food ,
and that
it
was
pleasant
to the eyes, and a
tree
to
be
desired
to
make
one
wise
, she took of
the fruit thereof,
and did
eat,
and
gave also
unto
her husband with her ;
and he did
eat
.
And the eyes of both
of
them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; so
they sewed together
fig leaves and made coverings
for
themselves.
And the eyes of them both
were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and
they sewed fig leaves together,
and made themselves aprons
.
Then
the
man
and his
wife
heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the breeze
of the day ,
and they
hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among
the trees of the garden.
And they
heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool
of the day :
and Adam
and
his
wife
hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst
the trees of the garden.
But
the LORD God called out
to
the
man
, “
Where are
you
? ”
And
the LORD God called unto
Adam
, and
said
unto
him,
Where art
thou
?
“
I heard Your
voice in the garden, ”
he
replied,
“
and I was afraid because I was naked; so
I hid myself. ”
And
he
said,
I heard thy
voice in the garden, and I was afraid ,
because I was naked; and
I hid myself.
“
Who told you
that you
were
naked? ”
asked
the
LORD
God.
“Have
you
eaten from
the tree of
which
I commanded you
not to
eat? ”
And
he
said,
Who told thee
that thou
wast
naked? Hast
thou
eaten of
the tree ,
whereof
I commanded thee
that
thou
shouldest
not eat?
And the man answered
, “
The woman whom You
gave
me, she gave me fruit
from
the tree, and I ate
it
. ”
And the man said
, The woman whom thou
gavest
to
be
with
me, she gave me of
the tree, and I did
eat
.
Then
the LORD God said to
the woman, “
What is this you
have
done? ”
“
The serpent deceived
me, ”
she
replied,
“
and I ate
. ”
And
the LORD God said unto
the woman, What is this that
thou
hast
done? And
the woman
said,
The
serpent beguiled
me, and I did
eat
.
So
the LORD God said to
the serpent :
“
Because you
have
done this, cursed are
you
above all livestock
and every beast of the field !
On
your
belly will
you
go, and dust you
will
eat ,
all the days of your
life .
And
the LORD God said unto
the serpent ,
Because thou
hast
done this, thou
art
cursed above all cattle,
and above
every beast of the field ;
upon
thy
belly shalt
thou
go, and dust shalt
thou
eat all the days of thy
life :
And I will put enmity between you
and the woman, and between your
seed and her seed .
He
will
crush
your
head, and you
will
strike
his heel. ”
And I will put enmity between thee
and the woman, and between thy
seed and her seed ;
it
shall
bruise
thy
head, and thou
shalt
bruise
his heel.
To
the woman He said :
“
I will sharply
increase
your
pain
in
childbirth
; in pain
you
will
bring forth children .
Your
desire will
be for
your
husband, and he will
rule over you
. ”
Unto
the woman he said ,
I will greatly
multiply
thy
sorrow
and
thy
conception
; in sorrow
thou
shalt
bring forth children ;
and
thy
desire shall
be to
thy
husband, and he shall
rule over thee
.
And to
Adam He said :
“
Because you
have
listened
to
the voice of your
wife and have
eaten from
the tree of which I commanded you
not to
eat ,
cursed is the ground because
of
you
; through
toil
you
will
eat of it all the days of your
life .
And unto
Adam he said ,
Because thou
hast
hearkened
unto
the voice of thy
wife ,
and hast
eaten of
the tree ,
of which I commanded thee,
saying,
Thou
shalt
not eat of
it:
cursed is the ground for
thy
sake
; in
sorrow
shalt
thou
eat of it all the days of thy
life ;
Both
thorns and thistles it will
yield
for
you,
and you
will
eat the plants
of the field .
Thorns also
and thistles shall
it bring
forth
to
thee;
and thou
shalt
eat the herb
of the field ;
By
the sweat of your
brow
you
will
eat your
bread, until
you
return to
the ground —
because
out of it were
you
taken .
For dust you
are
, and to
dust you
shall
return. ”
In
the sweat of thy
face
shalt
thou
eat bread, till
thou
return unto
the ground ;
for
out of it wast
thou
taken :
for dust thou
art
, and unto
dust shalt
thou
return.
And Adam named
his wife
Eve ,
because she would
be
the mother of all the
living.
And Adam called
his wife's
name
Eve ;
because she was
the mother of all living.
And the LORD God made
garments
of skin
for
Adam
and
his
wife
, and He
clothed them.
Unto
Adam
also
and to
his
wife
did
the LORD God make
coats
of skins
, and clothed them.
Then
the LORD God said, “
Behold, the man has
become like
one of Us, knowing
good and evil .
And now, lest he reach
out
his hand and take also from
the tree of life, and eat, and live forever...”
And
the LORD God said, Behold, the man is
become as
one of us, to
know
good and evil :
and now, lest he put
forth
his hand ,
and take also of
the tree of life, and eat, and live for
ever:
Therefore the LORD God banished
him from the Garden of Eden to work
the ground from which
he had
been
taken.
Therefore the LORD God sent
him forth
from the garden of Eden ,
to till
the ground from whence
he was
taken.
So He drove out the man and stationed
cherubim
on
the east side
of the Garden of Eden, along
with
a whirling
sword of
flame
to guard
the way to
the tree of life.
So he drove out the man ;
and he
placed
at
the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims
, and
a flaming
sword which
turned
every
way,
to keep
the way of
the tree of life.
