King James Version
So
Isaac called for
Jacob and blessed him .
“Do
not take a wife from
the Canaanite
women,”
he
commanded
.
And
Isaac called Jacob ,
and blessed him ,
and
charged
him,
and
said
unto
him,
Thou
shalt
not take a wife of
the daughters
of
Canaan
.
“
Go at
once
to Paddan-aram
, to the house of your
mother’s
father
Bethuel ,
and take a wife from among
the daughters of Laban ,
your
mother’s
brother.
Arise,
go to Padanaram
, to the house of Bethuel thy
mother's
father;
and take thee
a wife from thence
of
the daughters of Laban thy
mother's
brother.
May
God Almighty bless you
and make you
fruitful and multiply you
, so
that you
may
become
a company
of peoples.
And
God Almighty bless thee,
and make thee
fruitful ,
and multiply thee
, that thou
mayest
be
a multitude
of people;
And may
He
give the blessing of Abraham to you
and
your
descendants
, so
that you
may
possess
the land where
you
dwell
as
a foreigner
, the
land
God gave to
Abraham. ”
And give thee
the blessing of Abraham ,
to thee
, and
to
thy
seed
with
thee;
that thou
mayest
inherit
the land wherein
thou
art
a stranger
, which
God gave unto
Abraham.
So
Isaac sent Jacob to
Paddan-aram,
to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean
, the brother of Rebekah, who
was
the
mother
of
Jacob
and Esau
.
And
Isaac sent away
Jacob :
and
he
went
to Padanaram
unto
Laban ,
son of Bethuel the Syrian
, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's
and Esau's
mother
.
Now
Esau learned
that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram
to take a wife there,
commanding
him, “Do
not marry
a Canaanite
woman,”
When
Esau saw
that Isaac had blessed Jacob ,
and sent him away
to Padanaram,
to take him
a wife from
thence;
and
that
as
he
blessed
him he
gave
him
a
charge
, saying,
Thou
shalt
not take
a wife
of
the
daughters
of
Canaan;
and that Jacob had
obeyed his father and mother and gone to Paddan-aram.
And that Jacob obeyed his father and his
mother ,
and was
gone to Padanaram;
And seeing that his father Isaac
disapproved
of
the
Canaanite
women,
And Esau
seeing that the
daughters
of
Canaan
pleased
not
Isaac
his father ;
Esau
went to
Ishmael and married
Mahalath ,
the sister
of
Nebaioth
and
daughter of Abraham’s
son
Ishmael, in
addition
to
the wives
he
already
had
.
Then
went Esau
unto
Ishmael ,
and took
unto
the
wives
which
he
had
Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's
son
, the sister
of
Nebajoth,
to
be
his
wife
.
Meanwhile
Jacob left
Beersheba and set
out
for
Haran.
And
Jacob went
out
from
Beersheba ,
and went
toward
Haran.
On
reaching
a certain place, he
spent
the
night
there because the sun had
set .
And taking
one
of the stones from
that place, he
put it
under
his head
and lay down to sleep.
And
he
lighted
upon
a certain place, and
tarried
there all
night,
because the sun was
set ;
and he
took
of the stones of
that place, and
put them
for
his pillows,
and lay down in
that
place
to sleep.
And Jacob
had
a
dream
about
a ladder that
rested
on the earth with
its
top reaching
up
to heaven ,
and God’s
angels were
going
up
and down
the
ladder
.
And he
dreamed,
and
behold
a ladder set
up
on the earth ,
and
the
top of
it
reached
to heaven :
and behold
the
angels of
God
ascending
and descending
on
it
.
And there
at
the
top
the LORD was
standing
and saying
, “
I am the LORD ,
the
God of your
father
Abraham and the God of Isaac .
I
will give you
and your
descendants
the
land
on
which
you
now
lie.
And ,
behold,
the LORD stood
above
it,
and said
, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy
father,
and the God of Isaac :
the
land
whereon
thou
liest,
to
thee
will I
give it,
and to
thy
seed;
Your
descendants
will
be like
the dust of the earth, and you
will
spread out
to the west and east and north and south .
All the families of the earth will
be blessed through
you
and
your
offspring
.
And
thy
seed
shall
be as
the dust of the earth, and thou
shalt
spread abroad
to the west ,
and to
the
east ,
and to
the
north ,
and to
the
south :
and
in
thee
and
in
thy
seed
shall
all the families of the earth be blessed.
Look
, I am with you
, and I
will watch
over
you
wherever
you
go
, and I
will bring you
back
to
this land .
For I will not leave you
until I have done what
I have promised
you
. ”
And
, behold,
I am with thee
, and will keep
thee
in
all
places
whither
thou
goest
, and will bring thee
again
into
this land ;
for I will not leave thee,
until I have done that
which
I have spoken
to
thee
of
.
When
Jacob woke
up
, he thought
, “
Surely the LORD is in this place ,
and I was
unaware
of
it. ”
And
Jacob awaked
out
of
his
sleep
, and
he said
, Surely the LORD is in this place ;
and I knew
it not
.
And he was afraid and said, “
How awesome
is this place! This is none other than
the house of God ;
this is the gate of heaven !”
And he was afraid ,
and said, How dreadful
is this place! this is none other but
the house of God ,
and
this is the gate of heaven .
Early the next
morning, Jacob
took the stone that he had placed
under
his head
, and he
set it up as
a pillar .
He
poured oil on
top of it ,
And
Jacob
rose
up
early in
the morning, and
took the stone that he had put
for
his pillows
, and set it up for
a pillar ,
and
poured oil upon
the
top of it .
and he called that place Bethel ,
though
previously
the city had
been
named
Luz.
And he called the
name
of
that place Bethel :
but
the name
of
that
city was
called
Luz at
the
first
.
Then
Jacob made
a vow, saying, “
If God will be with me and watch
over
me on
this journey
, and if
He
will provide
me with
food
to eat and clothes
to wear
,
And
Jacob vowed
a vow, saying, If God will be with me ,
and will
keep
me in
this way
that
I
go
, and will give
me bread
to eat ,
and raiment
to put
on
,
so that I may
return
safely
to my father’s
house ,
then the LORD will
be my God .
So that I come
again
to my father's
house in
peace;
then shall
the LORD be my God :
And this stone I have set up
as
a pillar will
be God’s
house ,
and of all that You
give me I will surely give You
a
tenth. ”
And this stone ,
which
I have set for
a pillar ,
shall
be God's
house :
and of all that thou
shalt
give me I will surely give the
tenth unto
thee
.
