And
Isaac called Jacob ,
and blessed him ,
and
charged
him,
and
said
unto
him,
Thou
shalt
not take a wife of
the daughters
of
Canaan
.
So
Isaac called for
Jacob and blessed him .
“Do
not take a wife from
the Canaanite
women,”
he
commanded
.
Arise,
go to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel
thy
mother's
father .
And take thee
a wife from thence
of
the daughters of Laban thy
mother's
brother.
“
Go at
once
to Paddan-aram, to the house of your
mother’s
father Bethuel,
and take a wife from among
the daughters of Laban ,
your
mother’s
brother.
And
God Almighty bless thee,
and make thee
fruitful ,
and multiply thee
, that thou
mayest
be
a company of peoples.
May
God Almighty bless you
and make you
fruitful and multiply you
, so
that you
may
become
a company of peoples.
And give thee
the blessing of Abraham ,
to thee,
and to
thy
seed
with
thee.
That thou
mayest
inherit
the land of
thy
sojournings
, which
God gave unto
Abraham.
And may
He
give the blessing of Abraham to you
and your
descendants,
so
that you
may
possess
the land where
you
dwell
as
a
foreigner
, the
land
God gave to
Abraham. ”
And
Isaac sent away
Jacob .
And
he
went
to Paddan-aram unto
Laban
, son of Bethuel the Syrian
, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's
and
Esau's
mother.
So
Isaac sent Jacob to Paddan-aram, to
Laban
son of Bethuel the Aramean
, the brother of Rebekah, who
was
the
mother of
Jacob
and
Esau
.
Now Esau saw
that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away
to Paddan-aram ,
to take him
a wife from
thence.
And
that
as
he
blessed
him
he
gave
him
a
charge
, saying
, Thou
shalt
not take
a wife
of
the
daughters
of
Canaan.
Now Esau learned
that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him to Paddan-aram to take a wife there
, commanding
him
, “Do
not marry
a Canaanite
woman,”
And that Jacob obeyed his father and his
mother ,
and was
gone to Paddan-aram.
and that Jacob had
obeyed his father and mother and gone to Paddan-aram.
And Esau
saw
that the
daughters
of
Canaan
pleased
not
Isaac
his father .
And seeing
that his father Isaac
disapproved
of
the
Canaanite
women,
And
Esau went unto
Ishmael ,
and took,
besides
the
wives
that
he
had,
Mahalath the
daughter
of
Ishmael
Abraham's
son
, the sister of Nebaioth, to be
his
wife
.
Esau went to
Ishmael and married
Mahalath, the sister of Nebaioth and
daughter
of
Abraham’s
son
Ishmael
, in
addition
to the
wives
he
already
had
.
And
Jacob went
out
from
Beer-sheba,
and went
toward
Haran.
Meanwhile
Jacob left
Beersheba
and set
out
for
Haran.
And
he
lighted
upon
a certain place, and
tarried
there
all
night ,
because the sun was
set. And he
took
one of the stones of
the
place, and
put it under his head ,
and lay down in
that
place
to sleep.
On
reaching
a certain place, he
spent
the
night there
because the sun had
set. And taking
one of the stones from
that
place, he
put it under his head and lay down to sleep.
And he
dreamed.
And
behold,
a ladder set
up
on the earth ,
and
the
top of
it
reached
to heaven .
And
behold
, the
angels of
God
ascending
and descending
on
it
.
And Jacob
had
a dream
about
a
ladder that
rested
on the earth with
its
top reaching
up
to heaven, and
God’s
angels were
going
up
and down
the
ladder
.
And ,
behold,
Jehovah
stood
above
it,
and said
, I am Jehovah
, the God of Abraham
thy
father ,
and the God of Isaac. The
land
whereon
thou
liest,
to
thee
will
I give it,
and to
thy
seed
.
And there
at
the
top
the
LORD
was
standing
and saying
, “
I am the
LORD
, the God of your
father Abraham
and the God of Isaac. I will
give you
and your
descendants
the
land
on
which
you
now
lie
.
And
thy
seed
shall
be as
the dust of the earth, and thou
shalt
spread abroad
to the west ,
and to
the
east ,
and to
the
north ,
and to
the
south. And
in
thee
and
in
thy
seed
shall
all the families of the earth be blessed.
Your
descendants
will
be like
the dust of the earth, and you
will
spread out
to the west and east and north and south. All the families of the earth will
be blessed through
you
and
your
offspring
.
And,
behold
, I am with thee
, and will keep
thee,
whithersoever
thou
goest
, and will bring thee
again
into
this land. For I will not leave thee,
until I have done that
which
I have spoken
to
thee
of
.
Look
, I am with you
, and I
will watch
over
you
wherever
you
go
, and I
will bring you
back
to
this land. For I will not leave you
until I have done what
I have promised
you
. ”
And
Jacob awaked
out
of
his
sleep
, and
he said
, Surely Jehovah
is in this place .
And I knew
it not
.
When
Jacob woke
up
, he thought
, “
Surely the
LORD
is in this place ,
and I was
unaware
of
it. ”
And he was afraid ,
and said, How dreadful
is this place! This is none other than the house of God ,
and
this is the gate of heaven .
And he was afraid and said, “
How awesome
is this place! This is none other than the house of God ;
this is the gate of heaven !”
And
Jacob
rose
up
early in
the morning, and
took the stone that he had put
under his head, and set it up for
a pillar ,
and
poured oil upon
the
top of it .
Early the next
morning, Jacob
took the stone that he had placed
under his head, and he
set it up as
a pillar .
He
poured oil on
top of it ,
And he called the
name
of
that place Beth-el.
But
the
name
of
the city was
Luz at
the
first
.
and he called that place Bethel,
though
previously
the city had
been
named
Luz.
And
Jacob vowed
a vow, saying, If God will be with me ,
and will
keep
me in
this way
that
I
go
, and will give
me bread
to eat ,
and raiment
to put
on
,
Then
Jacob made
a vow, saying, “
If God will be with me and watch
over
me on
this journey
, and if
He
will provide
me with
food
to eat and clothes
to wear
,
so that I come
again
to my father's
house in
peace
, and
Jehovah
will be my God ,
so that I may
return
safely
to my father’s
house, then
the
LORD
will be my God .
then
this stone ,
which
I have set up for
a pillar ,
shall
be God's
house .
And of all that thou
shalt
give me I will surely give the
tenth unto
thee
.
And
this stone I have set up as
a pillar will
be God’s
house ,
and of all that You
give me I will surely give You
a
tenth. ”
