Some
time
later
God tested Abraham and said to him, “
Abraham! ”
“
Here I am ,”
he
answered
.
It
happened
after
these
things,
that
God tested Abraham ,
and said to him, "
Abraham! "
He
said,
"
Here I am. "
“
Take your son, ”
God
said,
“
your only son Isaac
, whom you love, and go to
the land of Moriah. Offer him there as
a burnt offering on one of the mountains ,
which I will show
you. ”
He
said,
"Now
take your son, your only son, whom you love, even
Isaac,
and go into
the land of Moriah. Offer him there for
a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell
you of
. "
So
Abraham got
up
early the next
morning, saddled his donkey, and took along
two of his servants
and his son Isaac
. He split the wood for a
burnt offering and set
out
for
the place God had designated
.
Abraham rose
early in
the morning, and
saddled his donkey, and took two of his young
men
with
him,
and Isaac
his son. He split the wood for the
burnt offering ,
and rose
up,
and
went
to
the place of
which
God had told
him
.
On the third day Abraham looked
up and saw the place in
the
distance
.
On the third day Abraham lifted
up his
eyes,
and saw the place far
off
.
“
Stay here with the donkey ,”
Abraham
told
his
servants
. “
The boy and I will go over
there
to
worship, and then
we
will
return
to you. ”
Abraham
said
to
his
young
men,
"
Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go yonder.
We
will
worship, and come
back
to you.
Abraham took the wood for
the burnt offering and placed
it on his son Isaac
. He himself
carried
the fire and the sacrificial
knife ,
and
the
two
of
them
walked
on
together.
Abraham took the wood of
the burnt offering and laid
it on Isaac
his son. He took
in
his
hand
the fire and the knife .
They
both
went
together.
Then
Isaac said
to his father Abraham
, “
My father !”
“
Here I am, my son ,”
he
replied
. “
The fire and the wood are
here
, ”
said
Isaac,
“
but where is the lamb for the
burnt offering? ”
Isaac spoke
to Abraham
his father, and
said,
"
My father ?"
He
said,
"
Here I am, my son. "
He
said,
"Here
is
the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a
burnt offering? "
Abraham answered
, “
God Himself
will provide the lamb for the
burnt offering, my son. ”
And
the
two
walked
on
together.
Abraham said
, "
God will provide himself
the lamb for a
burnt offering, my son. "
So
they
both
went
together.
When
they arrived
at
the place God had designated,
Abraham built the altar there and arranged
the wood .
He
bound his son Isaac
and placed
him on the altar, atop
the wood.
They came
to
the place which
God had told
him
of.
Abraham built the altar there ,
and laid
the wood in
order,
bound Isaac
his son ,
and laid
him on the altar, on
the wood.
Then
Abraham reached
out
his hand and took the knife to slaughter
his son.
Abraham stretched
forth
his hand ,
and took the knife to kill
his son.
Just
then
the angel of the
LORD
called out
to him from
heaven
, “
Abraham, Abraham! ”
“
Here I am ,”
he
replied
.
The angel of Yahweh
called to him out
of
the
sky
, and
said,
"
Abraham, Abraham! "
He
said,
"
Here I am. "
“Do
not
lay a
hand on the boy or
do anything to him ,”
said
the
angel,
“
for now I know that you fear God, since
you have not withheld your only son from me. ”
He
said,
"Don't
lay your
hand on the boy ,
neither
do anything to him .
For now I know that you fear God, seeing
you have not withheld your son,
your
only son ,
from me. "
Then
Abraham looked
up and saw behind him a ram in a
thicket ,
caught
by its
horns. So
he
went and took the ram and offered it
as
a burnt offering in
place
of his son.
Abraham lifted
up his
eyes,
and looked,
and
saw that
behind him was
a ram caught
in the
thicket by his
horns. Abraham
went and took the ram ,
and offered him
up
for
a burnt offering instead
of his son.
And
Abraham called that place The
LORD
Will
Provide
. So
to
this
day
it is said, “On
the
mountain of
the
LORD
it will be provided. ”
Abraham called the
name
of
that place Yahweh-Jireh
. As
it is said to
this
day
, "In
Yahweh's
mountain it will be provided.
And
the angel of the
LORD
called to Abraham from
heaven
a second time,
The angel of Yahweh
called to Abraham a second time out
of
the
sky
,
saying
, “By
Myself
I have sworn, declares
the
LORD
, that
because you have done this and have not withheld your only son,
and
said
, "
I have sworn by
myself
, says
Yahweh
, because you have done this thing,
and have not withheld your son,
your
only son,
I will surely
bless you, and I will multiply your descendants
like
the stars in
the sky
and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants
will possess the gates
of their
enemies.
that
in
blessing
I will bless you, and in
multiplying
I will multiply your seed
as
the stars of
the heavens,
and as
the sand which
is
on the seashore. Your seed
will possess the gate
of his
enemies.
And
through
your offspring
all nations of the earth will
be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice. ”
In
your seed
will
all the
nations of the earth be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice. "
Abraham went
back
to his servants
, and they got
up and set
out
together for
Beersheba. And
Abraham settled
in
Beersheba.
So
Abraham returned
to his young
men
, and they rose
up and went
together to
Beersheba. Abraham lived
at
Beersheba.
Some
time
later
, Abraham
was told, “
Milcah has
also borne sons
to your brother Nahor:
It
happened
after
these
things
, that
it
was told Abraham
, saying,
"Behold,
Milcah ,
she
also has
borne children
to your brother Nahor:
Uz the
firstborn, his brother Buz
, Kemuel (
the father of Aram )
,
Uz his
firstborn, Buz
his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram,
Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel. ”
Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel. "
And
Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milcah
bore
these eight sons
to Abraham’s
brother
Nahor.
Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. These eight Milcah
bore
to Nahor ,
Abraham's
brother
.
Moreover,
Nahor’s
concubine, whose name was Reumah, bore
Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
His
concubine, whose name was Reumah, also
bare
Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
