Some
time
later
God tested
Abraham and said to
him, “
Abraham !”
“
Here I
am ,”
he
answered
.
And
it
came
to
pass
after
these
things,
that
God did
prove
Abraham ,
and said unto
him, Abraham .
And
he
said,
Here am I
.
“
Take your
son, ”
God
said,
“your
only son Isaac
, whom you
love
, and go
to
the land of Moriah. Offer him there as
a burnt offering on
one of the mountains ,
which I will show
you
. ”
And
he
said,
Take now
thy
son, thine
only son, whom thou
lovest
, even
Isaac,
and get
thee
into
the land of Moriah. And
offer him there for
a burnt -
offering upon
one of the mountains which I will tell
thee
of
.
So
Abraham got
up
early the next
morning, saddled his donkey
, and took along
two of his servants
and his son Isaac
. He split
the wood for a
burnt offering and set
out
for
the place God had designated
.
And
Abraham rose
early in
the morning, and
saddled his ass
, and took two of his young
men
with
him,
and Isaac
his son. And
he clave
the wood for the
burnt -
offering ,
and rose
up,
and
went
unto
the place of
which
God had told
him
.
On the third day Abraham looked
up and saw the place in
the
distance
.
On the third day Abraham lifted
up his
eyes,
and saw the place afar
off
.
“Stay
here with the donkey
, ”
Abraham
told
his
servants.
“The
boy
and I will go over
there
to
worship,
and then
we will return
to you. ”
And
Abraham
said
unto
his
young
men,
Abide
ye
here with the ass
, and I and
the
lad
will go yonder;
and we will worship,
and
come
again
to you.
Abraham took the wood for
the burnt offering and placed
it on
his son Isaac
. He himself
carried
the fire and the sacrificial
knife ,
and the
two
of them walked
on
together.
And
Abraham took the wood of
the burnt -
offering ,
and laid
it upon
Isaac
his son. And
he took
in
his
hand
the fire and the knife .
And they
went
both
of them together.
Then
Isaac said
to
his father Abraham
, “
My father !”
“
Here I
am, my son ,”
he
replied
. “
The fire and the wood are
here,”
said
Isaac,
“
but where is the lamb for the
burnt offering? ”
And
Isaac spake
unto
Abraham
his father, and
said,
My father .
And
he
said,
Here am I
, my son. And
he
said,
Behold,
the fire and the wood .
But where is the lamb for a
burnt -
offering?
Abraham answered
, “
God Himself
will provide the lamb for the
burnt offering, my son. ”
And
the
two
walked
on
together.
And
Abraham said
, God will provide himself
the lamb for a
burnt -
offering, my son. So
they
went
both
of
them
together.
When
they arrived
at
the place God had designated,
Abraham built the altar there and arranged
the wood .
He
bound his son Isaac
and placed
him on the altar, atop
the wood.
And
they came
to
the place which
God had told
him
of.
And
Abraham built the altar there ,
and laid
the wood in
order,
and
bound Isaac
his son ,
and laid
him on the altar, upon
the wood.
Then
Abraham reached
out
his hand and took the knife to slaughter
his son.
And
Abraham stretched
forth
his hand ,
and took the knife to slay
his son.
Just
then
the angel of the
LORD
called out
to
him from
heaven, “
Abraham, Abraham !”
“
Here I am ,”
he
replied
.
And
the angel of Jehovah
called unto
him out
of
heaven, and
said,
Abraham, Abraham .
And
he
said,
Here I am.
“Do
not
lay a
hand on
the boy
or
do anything to
him ,”
said
the
angel,
“
for now I know that you
fear
God, since
you
have
not withheld your
only son from me. ”
And
he
said,
Lay not
thy
hand upon
the lad,
neither
do thou
anything unto
him .
For now I know that thou
fearest
God, seeing
thou
hast
not withheld thy
son,
thine
only son ,
from me.
Then
Abraham looked
up and saw
behind him a ram in a
thicket ,
caught
by its
horns. So
he
went and took the ram and offered it
as
a burnt offering in place
of his son.
And
Abraham lifted
up his
eyes,
and looked,
and
behold,
behind `
him '
a ram caught
in the
thicket by his
horns. And
Abraham
went and took the ram ,
and offered him
up
for
a burnt -
offering in the
stead
of his son.
And Abraham called that place The
LORD
Will
Provide
. So
to
this
day
it is said, “On
the mountain
of the
LORD
it will
be provided. ”
And Abraham called the
name
of
that place Jehovah-jireh
. As
it is said to
this
day
, In
the mount
of Jehovah
it shall
be provided.
And the angel of the
LORD
called to
Abraham from
heaven
a second time,
And the angel of Jehovah
called unto
Abraham a second time out
of
heaven
,
saying
, “
By Myself I
have sworn, declares
the
LORD
, that
because you
have
done this and have
not withheld your
only son,
and
said
, By myself have I
sworn, saith
Jehovah
, because thou
hast
done this thing,
and hast
not withheld thy
son,
thine
only son,
I will surely
bless you
, and I will multiply your
descendants
like
the stars in
the sky
and the sand on
the seashore. Your
descendants
will
possess the gates
of their
enemies.
that
in
blessing
I will bless thee
, and in
multiplying
I will multiply thy
seed
as
the stars of
the heavens,
and as
the sand which
is
upon
the seashore. And
thy
seed
shall
possess the gate
of his
enemies.
And through
your
offspring
all nations of the earth will
be blessed ,
because you
have
obeyed My voice. ”
And in
thy
seed
shall
all the
nations of the earth be blessed .
Because thou
hast
obeyed my voice.
Abraham went
back
to
his servants
, and they got
up and set
out
together for
Beersheba
. And Abraham settled
in
Beersheba
.
So
Abraham returned
unto
his young
men
, and they rose
up and went
together to
Beer-sheba
. And Abraham dwelt
at
Beer-sheba
.
Some
time
later
, Abraham
was told, “
Milcah has
also borne sons
to
your
brother Nahor :
And
it
came
to
pass
after
these
things
, that
it
was told Abraham
, saying,
Behold,
Milcah ,
she
also hath
borne children
unto
they
brother Nahor .
Uz the
firstborn
, his brother Buz
, Kemuel (
the father of Aram ),
Uz his
first-born
, and
Buz
his brother, and
Kemuel the father of Aram .
Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel. ”
And
Chesed, and
Hazo, and
Pildash, and
Jidlaph, and Bethuel.
And Bethuel became
the
father
of
Rebekah. Milcah
bore
these eight sons
to Abraham’s
brother
Nahor.
And Bethuel begat
Rebekah. These eight did
Milcah
bear
to Nahor ,
Abraham's
brother
.
Moreover,
Nahor’s
concubine, whose name was Reumah, bore
Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
And
his
concubine, whose name was Reumah, she
also
bare
Tebah, and
Gaham, and
Tahash, and Maacah.
