This is the blessing that
Moses the man of God pronounced
upon
the Israelites
before his death.
And
this is the blessing ,
wherewith
Moses the man of God blessed
the children
of
Israel
before his death.
He said :
“The
LORD
came from Sinai and dawned
upon
us
from Seir; He shone
forth from Mount Paran and came with
myriads
of holy ones ,
with
flaming
fire
at His right hand.
And
he said ,
Jehovah
came from Sinai ,
And rose
from Seir unto
them
; He shined
forth from mount Paran ,
And he
came from
the
ten
thousands
of holy ones :
At his right hand was
a
fiery
law
for
them
.
Surely
You
love
the people; all the
holy
ones
are in Your
hand ,
and they sit
down at Your
feet; each
receives
Your
words —
Yea,
he
loveth
the people; All his
saints
are in thy
hand :
And they sat
down at thy
feet; `Every
one'
shall
receive
of
thy
words .
the
law
that
Moses gave
us, the
possession
of
the assembly of Jacob.
Moses commanded
us a
law
, An
inheritance
for
the assembly of Jacob.
So
the
LORD
became
King in Jeshurun when the leaders
of the people gathered, when
the tribes of Israel came
together.
And
he
was
king in Jeshurun ,
When the heads
of the people were
gathered, All
the tribes of Israel together.
Let Reuben live and not die ,
nor his men be few. ”
Let Reuben live ,
and not die ;
Nor let
his men be few.
And concerning
Judah he said :
“O
LORD
, hear the cry
of Judah and bring him to
his people. With his own
hands he defends
his
cause,
but
may
You
be a help against his foes
. ”
And this
is
`the
blessing'
of
Judah :
and
he said, Hear ,
Jehovah,
the voice
of Judah ,
And bring him in
unto
his people. With his hands he contended
for
himself;
And
thou
shalt
be a help against his adversaries
.
Concerning
Levi he said :
“Give
Your
Thummim to
Levi
and Your
Urim to
Your
godly one, whom You
tested
at Massah and
contested
at the waters of Meribah .
And
of
Levi he said ,
Thy
Thummim and thy
Urim are
with
thy
godly one, Whom thou
didst
prove
at Massah ,
With
whom
thou
didst
strive
at the waters of Meribah ;
He
said of his father and mother, ‘
I do
not consider
them.’
He disregarded
his brothers
and
did
not
know
his own sons,
for he
kept
Your
word and maintained
Your
covenant.
Who
said of his father ,
and of
his
mother, I have
not seen
him;
Neither
did
he acknowledge
his brethren,
Nor
knew
he
his own children:
For they
have
observed
thy
word ,
And keep
thy
covenant.
He
will
teach Your
ordinances
to
Jacob and Your
law
to
Israel ;
he
will
set
incense before You
and whole burnt offerings
on
Your
altar.
They
shall
teach Jacob thine
ordinances,
And Israel thy
law:
They
shall
put
incense before thee,
And whole burnt -offering
upon
thine
altar.
Bless his substance, O
LORD,
and accept the work of his hands .
Smash
the loins of those
who
rise against him, and of his
foes
so
they can
rise no
more
. ”
Bless ,
Jehovah,
his substance, And accept the work of his hands :
Smite
through
the loins of them
that
rise up
against him, And of them
that
hate
him,
that
they rise not
again
.
Concerning
Benjamin he said :
“May
the beloved of the
LORD
rest
secure
in Him; God
shields
him all day long, and upon
His shoulders he
rests
. ”
Of
Benjamin he said ,
The beloved of Jehovah
shall
dwell
in safety
by
him; He
covereth
him all the
day long, And he
dwelleth
between
his shoulders.
Concerning
Joseph he said :
“May
his land be
blessed
by
the
LORD
with
the precious dew
from
heaven above
and the deep waters
that lie
beneath,
And
of
Joseph he said ,
Blessed
of
Jehovah
be
his land ,
For
the precious things
of
heaven ,
for
the
dew,
And for
the deep that coucheth
beneath,
with
the bountiful
harvest
from
the sun and the abundant
yield
of the seasons
,
And
for
the precious
things
of
the fruits
of
the
sun ,
And for
the precious
things
of the growth
of
the
moons
,
with
the best
of the ancient mountains and the bounty
of the everlasting hills,
And
for
the chief
things
of the ancient mountains ,
And for
the precious
things
of the everlasting hills,
with
the choice
gifts
of the land
and everything
in
it
, and with
the favor
of Him who
dwelt in the burning
bush. May
these
rest
on
the head of Joseph and crown
the brow
of the prince
of his brothers
.
And
for
the precious
things
of the earth
and the
fulness
thereof
, And the good
will
of him that
dwelt in the bush. Let
`
the blessing'
come
upon
the
head of Joseph ,
And upon
the crown
of the head
of him
that
was
separate
from
his brethren
.
His majesty is like
a
firstborn
bull,
and his horns are like
those
of a
wild ox .
With them he will
gore
the nations
, even to
the ends of the earth .
Such
are the myriads
of Ephraim, and such
are the thousands of Manasseh. ”
The
firstling
of
his herd,
majesty is his;
And his horns are the
horns
of the
wild -
ox :
With them he shall
push
the peoples
all
of
them
, `
even '
the ends of the earth :
And
they
are the ten
thousands
of Ephraim, And they
are the thousands of Manasseh.
Concerning
Zebulun he said :
“
Rejoice, Zebulun, in your
journeys,
and Issachar, in your
tents.
And
of
Zebulun he said ,
Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy
going
out;
And ,
Issachar, in thy
tents.
They will
call the peoples to
a
mountain; there they will
offer sacrifices of righteousness .
For they will
feast
on
the abundance of the seas and the hidden treasures of the sand. ”
They shall
call the peoples unto
the
mountain; There shall
they offer sacrifices of righteousness :
For they shall
suck
the abundance of the seas ,
And the hidden treasures of the sand.
Concerning
Gad he said :
“
Blessed is
he who
enlarges
the
domain
of
Gad !
He lies
down
like
a lion
and tears
off
an
arm or
a
head.
And
of
Gad he said ,
Blessed be
he that
enlargeth
Gad :
He dwelleth
as
a lioness,
And teareth
the
arm ,
yea,
the
crown
of
the
head.
He chose
the best
land
for himself, because
a
ruler’s
portion
was
reserved
for him
there .
He came with the leaders
of the people; he administered
the LORD’s
justice
and His ordinances for
Israel. ”
And
he provided
the first
part
for himself, For there was
the
lawgiver's
portion
reserved;
And
he came `
with '
the heads
of the people; He executed
the righteousness
of
Jehovah,
And his ordinances with
Israel.
Concerning
Dan he said :
“
Dan is a lion’s
cub
, leaping
out
of
Bashan. ”
And
of
Dan he said ,
Dan is a lion's
whelp
, That
leapeth
forth
from
Bashan.
Concerning
Naphtali he said :
“
Naphtali is
abounding
with favor, full of
the blessing of the
LORD;
he
shall
take
possession
of
the sea
and the south. ”
And
of
Naphtali he said ,
O
Naphtali ,
satisfied
with favor, And
full with
the blessing of Jehovah,
Possess
thou
the west
and the south.
And concerning
Asher he said :
“May
Asher
be
the
most
blessed of
sons
; may
he
be the
most
favored
among
his brothers
and dip his foot in oil.
And of
Asher he said ,
Blessed be
Asher
with
children
; Let
him
be acceptable
unto
his brethren,
And let
him
dip his foot in oil.
May
the
bolts
of
your
gate
be iron and bronze,
and may
your
strength
match
your
days. ”
Thy
bars
shall
be iron and brass;
And as
thy
days ,
so
shall
thy
strength
be
.
“
There is none like the
God of
Jeshurun, who rides
the heavens to
your
aid
, and the
clouds
in His majesty
.
There is none like unto
God ,
O
Jeshurun, Who rideth
upon
the heavens for
thy
help
, And in his excellency
on
the
skies
.
The eternal God is your
dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He drives
out the enemy before you
, giving
the
command
, ‘
Destroy him!’
The eternal God is `thy'
dwelling -
place, And underneath are the everlasting arms. And
he thrust
out the enemy from
before thee
, And
said
, Destroy .
So
Israel dwells
securely;
the fountain of Jacob lives
untroubled
in a land of grain and new wine, where
even
the
heavens drip
with
dew.
And
Israel dwelleth
in
safety,
The fountain of Jacob alone,
In a land of grain and new wine ;
Yea
, his
heavens drop
down
dew.
Blessed
are
you
, O Israel !
Who is like you
, a people saved by the
LORD?
He
is
the shield that
protects
you
, the sword in
which
you
boast.
Your
enemies
will
cower
before
you,
and you
shall trample
their high places. ”
Happy
art
thou
, O Israel :
Who is like unto
thee
, a people saved by Jehovah,
The shield of
thy
help
, And
the sword of
thy
excellency!
And thine
enemies
shall submit
themselves
unto
thee;
And
thou
shalt
tread
upon
their high places.
