American Standard Version
In the first year of Darius son of Xerxes
, a
Mede
by
descent
, who was made ruler
over the kingdom
of the Chaldeans —
In the first year of Darius the
son of Ahasuerus
, of
the
seed
of
the
Medes
, who was made king
over the realm
of the Chaldeans ,
in the first year of his reign ,
I, Daniel, understood from
the sacred
books ,
according
to
the word
of the LORD
to Jeremiah the prophet, that
the desolation
of Jerusalem would
last
seventy years.
in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by
the books the number
of the years
whereof
the
word
of
Jehovah
came
to Jeremiah the prophet, for
the accomplishing
of the
desolations
of
Jerusalem ,
even
seventy years.
So
I turned
my attention
to
the Lord God to seek Him
by prayer and petition
, with fasting ,
sackcloth ,
and ashes.
And
I set
my face
unto
the Lord God ,
to seek by prayer and supplications
, with fasting and
sackcloth and ashes.
And I prayed to
the
LORD
my God and confessed
, “O
, Lord, the great and awesome
God, who keeps
His
covenant of
loving
devotion
to
those
who
love Him and keep His commandments,
And I prayed unto
Jehovah
my God ,
and made
confession
, and
said
, Oh,
Lord, the great and dreadful
God, who keepeth
covenant and
lovingkindness
with
them
that
love him and keep his commandments,
we have sinned and done
wrong.
We
have acted
wickedly and rebelled.
We
have turned
away
from Your
commandments
and ordinances .
we have sinned ,
and have dealt
perversely,
and
have
done
wickedly ,
and have rebelled,
even
turning
aside
from thy
precepts
and from
thine
ordinances ;
We
have not
listened
to
Your
servants the prophets, who
spoke
in Your
name to our kings, leaders
, and fathers, and to all the people of the land.
neither
have we
hearkened
unto
thy
servants the prophets, that
spake
in thy
name to our kings, our
princes
, and our
fathers, and to all the people of the land.
To
You,
O Lord, belongs
righteousness, but this day we
are
covered
with
shame—
the men of Judah, the people
of Jerusalem, and all Israel near and far, in
all the countries to
which
You
have
driven us
because of our
unfaithfulness
to
You
.
O Lord, righteousness belongeth
unto
thee
, but unto
us
confusion
of
face,
as
at
this day ;
to
the men of Judah, and
to
the inhabitants
of Jerusalem, and unto
all Israel ,
that
are
near ,
and that
are
far off
, through
all the countries whither
thou
hast
driven them,
because of their
trespass
that
they
have
trespassed
against
thee
.
O LORD, we
are
covered
with
shame—
our kings, our leaders
, and our fathers —
because we have sinned against You
.
O Lord, to
us
belongeth
confusion
of
face,
to
our kings, to
our princes
, and to
our fathers ,
because we have sinned against thee
.
To the Lord our God belong compassion
and forgiveness ,
even
though
we have rebelled against Him
To the Lord our God belong mercies
and forgiveness ;
for
we have rebelled against him ;
and
have not
obeyed the voice of the
LORD
our God to walk in His laws, which He set before us through
His servants the prophets.
neither
have we
obeyed the voice of Jehovah
our God ,
to walk in his laws, which he set before us by
his servants the prophets.
All Israel has
transgressed Your
law and
turned
away
, refusing
to
obey Your
voice ;
so
the oath
and the curse
written in the Law of Moses the servant of God has
been
poured
out
on
us,
because
we have sinned against You
.
Yea,
all Israel have
transgressed thy
law, even
turning
aside,
that
they
should
not
obey thy
voice :
therefore
hath
the curse
been
poured
out
upon
us,
and the oath
that
is
written in the law of Moses the servant of God ;
for
we have sinned against him
.
You
have
carried
out
the
words spoken
against us and against our rulers
by bringing upon us a great disaster.
For under all
of
heaven ,
nothing
has
ever
been done like
what
has
been done to
Jerusalem.
And
he
hath
confirmed
his
words ,
which
he
spake
against us ,
and against our judges
that
judged
us,
by bringing upon us a great evil;
for under the
whole
heaven hath
not
been done as
hath
been done upon
Jerusalem.
Just
as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster
has
come upon us ,
yet we
have not sought
the favor of the
LORD
our God by
turning
from our iniquities and giving
attention
to
Your
truth.
As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil
is
come upon us :
yet have we
not entreated
the favor of Jehovah
our God ,
that
we
should
turn
from our iniquities ,
and have
discernment
in
thy
truth.
Therefore the
LORD
has
kept
the calamity
in
store
and brought it upon us .
For the
LORD
our God is righteous in all He does;
yet
we have not obeyed His voice.
Therefore hath
Jehovah
watched
over
the evil,
and brought it upon us ;
for Jehovah
our God is righteous in all his
works
which
he doeth,
and
we have not obeyed his voice.
Now, O Lord our God, who
brought Your
people out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and who
made
for
Yourself
a
name
renowned
to
this day ,
we have sinned ;
we have acted
wickedly.
And
now, O Lord our God, that
hast
brought thy
people forth
out of the land of Egypt with a mighty hand, and hast
gotten
thee
renown,
as
at
this day ;
we have sinned ,
we have done
wickedly.
O Lord, in
keeping
with
all Your
righteous
acts
, I
pray
that
Your
anger and wrath may
turn
away from Your
city Jerusalem, Your
holy mountain; for
because of
our sins and the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your
people are a reproach to all around
us.
O Lord, according
to
all thy
righteousness
, let
thine
anger and thy
wrath ,
I
pray
thee,
be
turned
away from thy
city Jerusalem, thy
holy mountain; because for
our sins ,
and for
the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and thy
people are become
a reproach to all that
are
round
about
us.
So
now, our God, hear
the prayers
and
petitions
of Your
servant .
For
Your
sake
, O
Lord
, cause Your
face to shine upon Your
desolate
sanctuary.
Now therefore
, O
our God, hearken
unto
the prayer
of thy
servant, and
to
his
supplications
, and
cause thy
face to shine upon thy
sanctuary that
is
desolate,
for
the
Lord's
sake
.
Incline
Your
ear,
O my God, and hear; open Your
eyes and see
the
desolation
of
the city that
bears
Your
name .
For we are
not presenting
our petitions
before You
because
of
our righteous
acts
, but because
of
Your
great compassion
.
O my God, incline
thine
ear,
and hear; open thine
eyes ,
and behold
our
desolations,
and
the city which
is
called
by
thy
name :
for we do
not present
our supplications
before thee
for
our righteousness
, but for
thy
great mercies'
sake
.
O Lord, listen!
O Lord, forgive !
O Lord, hear
and act!
For Your
sake, O my God, do
not
delay,
because Your
city and Your
people bear
Your
name. ”
O Lord, hear;
O Lord, forgive ;
O Lord, hearken
and do;
defer
not,
for thine
own
sake, O my God, because thy
city and thy
people are
called
by
thy
name.
While I was speaking, praying, confessing my sin and that
of my people Israel, and presenting my petition
before the
LORD
my God concerning
His
holy mountain —
And
while I was speaking, and
praying, and
confessing my sin and the
sin
of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication
before Jehovah
my God for
the
holy mountain of
my
God;
while I was still
praying,
Gabriel
, the man I had seen in the earlier
vision, came
to me in
swift
flight
about the time of the evening sacrifice
.
yea,
while I was speaking
in
prayer
, the man Gabriel,
whom
I had seen in the vision at
the
beginning
, being
caused
to fly
swiftly,
touched
me about the time of the evening oblation
.
He instructed me and spoke
with me, saying:
“
O Daniel, I have
come
now to give you
insight
and understanding.
And
he instructed me ,
and talked
with me, and
said,
O Daniel, I am
now come
forth
to give thee
wisdom
and understanding.
At the beginning of your
petitions,
an
answer
went out
, and I have
come to tell you,
for you
are
highly
precious.
So
consider the message
and understand the vision :
At the beginning of thy
supplications
the
commandment
went forth
, and I am
come to tell thee;
for thou
art
greatly
beloved:
therefore
consider the matter,
and understand the vision .
Seventy weeks are decreed for
your
people and your
holy city to stop
their
transgression, to put
an end to
sin
, to make atonement
for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy Place
.
Seventy weeks are decreed upon
thy
people and upon
thy
holy city ,
to finish
transgression, and
to make
an end of
sins
, and
to make reconciliation
for iniquity, and
to bring in everlasting righteousness, and
to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.
Know and understand
this:
From the issuance
of the decree
to restore and rebuild
Jerusalem ,
until
the Messiah
, the Prince, there
will
be seven weeks and sixty-
two weeks .
It will
be rebuilt
with streets
and a
trench
, but
in times of
distress
.
Know therefore
and discern,
that
from the going
forth
of the commandment
to restore and to
build
Jerusalem unto
the anointed
one
, the prince, shall
be seven weeks ,
and threescore
and
two weeks :
it shall
be built
again,
with street
and moat
, even
in troublous
times.
Then
after the sixty-
two weeks the Messiah
will
be cut off and will
have nothing .
Then
the people of the prince who
is
to
come will
destroy the city and the sanctuary .
The end will
come
like
a flood, and until
the end there
will
be war; desolations have
been
decreed
.
And
after the threescore
and
two weeks shall
the anointed
one
be cut off ,
and shall
have nothing :
and
the people of the prince that
shall
come shall
destroy the city and the sanctuary ;
and
the end thereof
shall
be
with
a flood, and even
unto
the end shall
be war; desolations are
determined
.
And he will
confirm
a covenant with many for one week ,
but
in the middle
of the week he will
put
an
end
to
sacrifice and offering.
And on
the wing of the
temple
will
come the abomination
that causes
desolation
, until
the
decreed
destruction
is
poured out upon him
. ”
And he shall
make
a firm
covenant with many for one week :
and
in the midst
of the week he shall
cause
the
sacrifice and the
oblation
to
cease;
and upon
the wing of abominations
`shall
come '
one
that
maketh
desolate;
and
even
unto
the full
end,
and
that determined
, shall
`wrath'
be
poured out upon the
desolate
.
