At
Iconium, Paul
and
Barnabas
went as
usual
into the Jewish
synagogue, where
they
spoke
so well
that a great number
of Jews and Greeks believed.
And
it
came
to
pass
in
Iconium, that
they
went both
together
into the synagogue of
the
Jews
, and
so spake,
that a great multitude
both
of the
Jews and also
of
the
Greeks believed.
But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned
their minds against the brothers
.
But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles ,
and made
their minds evil
affected
against the brethren
.
So
Paul
and
Barnabas
spent
considerable
time there,
speaking boldly for
the Lord, who
affirmed
the message
of His grace by
enabling
them
to
perform
signs and wonders.
Long
time therefore
abode
they
speaking boldly in
the Lord, which
gave
testimony
unto
the word
of his grace ,
and
granted
signs and wonders to
be
done
by
their
hands
.
The people
of the city were
divided .
Some
sided
with the Jews, and others
with the apostles.
But
the multitude
of the city was
divided :
and
part
held
with the Jews, and part
with the apostles.
But
when the Gentiles and Jews ,
together
with their rulers, set
out
to mistreat
and stone them,
And
when there
was
an
assault
made
both
of
the Gentiles ,
and also
of
the
Jews with their rulers, to use
them
despitefully,
and to
stone them,
they found
out
about
it and fled to
the
Lycaonian
cities
of
Lystra and Derbe and to
the surrounding
region ,
They were
ware
of
it ,
and fled unto
Lystra and Derbe ,
cities
of
Lycaonia,
and unto
the region that
lieth
round
about:
where
they continued
to
preach
the gospel.
And
there
they preached
the gospel.
In
Lystra
there sat a man crippled
in his feet, who
was
lame
from birth
and
had
never walked .
And
there sat a certain
man at
Lystra,
impotent
in his feet, being
a
cripple
from his
mother's
womb,
who
never had
walked :
This
man
was
listening
to
the words
of
Paul ,
who looked
intently
at
him and saw
that he had faith to be healed .
The same
heard
Paul speak:
who stedfastly
beholding
him ,
and perceiving
that he had faith to be healed ,
In
a loud voice Paul
called
out
, “
Stand up
on your
feet !”
And the
man
jumped
up
and began
to
walk
.
Said
with
a loud voice, Stand upright
on thy
feet .
And he
leaped
and walked
.
When the crowds
saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices in the Lycaonian
language:
“
The gods have
come down to us in human
form!”
And
when the people
saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices ,
saying
in the speech
of
Lycaonia,
The gods are
come down to us in the
likeness
of
men.
Barnabas
they called Zeus
, and Paul they
called
Hermes
, because he was the chief speaker.
And
they called Barnabas
, Jupiter;
and Paul, Mercurius,
because he was the chief speaker.
The priest of Zeus
, whose
temple
was just
outside
the
city, brought bulls
and wreaths
to
the city
gates, hoping
to
offer
a
sacrifice along
with the crowds
.
Then
the priest of Jupiter
, which
was before
their
city, brought oxen
and garlands
unto
the gates, and
would
have
done
sacrifice with the people
.
But
when the apostles Barnabas and Paul found
out
about
this
, they tore
their clothes and rushed
into
the crowd
, shouting
,
Which
when the apostles ,
Barnabas and Paul, heard
of,
they rent
their clothes ,
and ran
in
among
the people
, crying
out
,
“Men
, why are
you
doing
this
? We too
are only
men ,
human
like you .
We
are
bringing
you good
news
that you
should turn from these worthless
things
to
the living God, who
made heaven and earth and sea and everything
in
them.
And
saying
, Sirs,
why do
ye
these
things
? We also
are men of
like passions
with
you ,
and
preach
unto
you that ye
should turn from these vanities
unto
the living God, which
made heaven ,
and earth ,
and the
sea ,
and all
things
that
are
therein:
In past generations,
He
let
all nations go
their own way
.
Who
in times
past suffered
all nations to
walk
in
their own ways
.
Yet
He has
not
left Himself without testimony
to
His
goodness:
He gives
you
rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your
hearts with food and gladness. ”
Nevertheless
he left not
himself without witness,
in
that
he did
good,
and
gave
us
rain from heaven ,
and fruitful seasons, filling our
hearts with food and gladness.
Even
with these words,
Paul
and
Barnabas
could
hardly
stop
the crowds
from
sacrificing
to
them.
And
with these sayings
scarce
restrained
they
the people,
that
they
had
not
done
sacrifice
unto
them.
Then
some
Jews arrived
from Antioch and Iconium and
won
over
the crowds.
They
stoned Paul and
dragged
him outside
the city, presuming
he was
dead.
And
there
came
thither
certain
Jews from Antioch and Iconium ,
who
persuaded
the people,
and
having
stoned Paul ,
drew
him out
of
the city, supposing
he had
been
dead.
But
after
the disciples had
gathered
around
him, he got
up and went
back
into the city .
And the next day he left
with Barnabas for
Derbe.
Howbeit,
as
the disciples stood
round
about
him, he rose
up ,
and came
into the city :
and the next day he departed
with Barnabas to
Derbe.
They preached the gospel to that city and made
many disciples.
Then
they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch,
And
when
they had
preached the gospel to that city ,
and had
taught
many ,
they returned again
to Lystra, and
to
Iconium, and Antioch,
strengthening
the souls of the disciples and encouraging
them to continue in the faith .
“
We must endure
many
hardships
to
enter the kingdom of God ,”
they
said
.
Confirming
the souls of the disciples ,
and exhorting
them to continue in the faith ,
and
that
we must through
much
tribulation
enter into
the kingdom of God.
Paul
and Barnabas
appointed
elders
for
them in each
church, praying
and fasting as
they entrusted
them to the Lord, in
whom they had
believed.
And when
they
had
ordained
them elders
in every
church, and had
prayed
with
fasting ,
they commended
them to the Lord, on
whom they believed.
After passing
through
Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
And
after they
had
passed
throughout
Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.
And when they had spoken
the word in Perga, they went down to
Attalia .
And when they had preached
the word in Perga, they went down into
Attalia :
From
Attalia
they
sailed to Antioch, where
they had been commended
to the grace of God for the work they had
just
completed
.
And
thence
sailed to Antioch, from
whence
they had been recommended
to the grace of God for the work which
they fulfilled
.
When they arrived
, they
gathered the church together and
reported
all that God had done through
them, and how He had opened the door of faith to
the Gentiles.
And
when they were
come
, and
had
gathered the church together ,
they
rehearsed
all that God had done with
them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto
the Gentiles.
And they spent
a
long time there
with the disciples.
And there
they abode
long time with the disciples.
