American Standard Version
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those
who
through
the righteousness of our God and Savior
Jesus Christ have
received
a
faith
as
precious
as
ours
:
Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to them
that
have
obtained
a
like
precious
faith
with
us
in
the righteousness of our God and `the'
Saviour
Jesus Christ:
Grace and peace be multiplied to
you
through
the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord .
Grace to
you
and peace be multiplied in
the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord ;
His divine power has
given
us everything
we
need
for
life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who
called us by His own glory and excellence.
seeing
that
his divine power hath
granted
unto
us all
things
that
pertain
unto
life and godliness ,
through the knowledge of him that
called us by his own glory and virtue;
Through
these
He has
given
us His precious and magnificent
promises ,
so
that through them
you
may become partakers of the divine nature, now
that
you
have
escaped the corruption in the
world caused
by evil
desires
.
whereby
he hath
granted
unto
us his precious and exceeding
great
promises ;
that through these
ye
may become partakers of the divine nature, having
escaped from
the corruption that
is
in that
world by lust
.
For this very reason
, make
every
effort
to
add
to
your faith virtue; and to
virtue ,
knowledge;
Yea,
and
for this very cause
adding
on
your
part
all
diligence
, in
your faith supply
virtue; and in
`your'
virtue knowledge;
and to
knowledge ,
self-control; and to
self-control ,
perseverance
; and to
perseverance,
godliness;
and in
`your'
knowledge self-control; and in
`your'
self-control patience
; and in
`your'
patience
godliness;
and to
godliness ,
brotherly kindness; and to
brotherly kindness ,
love.
and in
`your'
godliness brotherly kindness; and in
`your'
brotherly kindness love.
For if you
possess
these qualities
and continue
to
grow
in
them
, they will
keep
you from
being
ineffective
and
unproductive
in
your
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For if these things
are
yours
and abound
, they make
you to
be
not
idle
nor
unfruitful
unto
the
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But
whoever
lacks
these traits
is nearsighted
to
the
point
of
blindness
, having forgotten that
he
has
been
cleansed
from his past
sins.
For
he
that
lacketh
these things
is blind
, seeing
only
what
is
near,
having forgotten the
cleansing
from his old
sins.
Therefore
, brothers
, strive
to make your calling and election sure .
For if you
practice
these things you
will
never stumble ,
Wherefore
, brethren
, give
the
more
diligence
to make your calling and election sure :
for if ye
do
these things ,
ye
shall
never stumble :
and
you will
receive
a
lavish
reception
into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ.
for
thus
shall
be
richly
supplied
unto
you the
entrance
into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ.
Therefore
I will
always remind
you of these things, even
though you
know them and are established in the truth you now
have
.
Wherefore
I shall
be
ready
always to
put
you in
remembrance
of these things, though ye
know them ,
and are established in the truth which
is
with
`
you '
.
I think it is
right to
refresh
your
memory
as long as I live
in the
tent
of
my
body
,
And
I think it right ,
as long as I am
in this
tabernacle
, to
stir
you
up
by
putting
you
in
remembrance;
because
I
know
that this
tent
will
soon
be
laid
aside
, as our Lord Jesus Christ has
made
clear
to
me.
knowing
that the
putting
off
of
my
tabernacle
cometh
swiftly
, even
as our Lord Jesus Christ signified
unto
me.
And
I will make
every
effort
to
ensure
that after
my
departure,
you
will
be able to recall
these things at
all
times
.
Yea,
I will give
diligence
that at
every
time
ye
may
be able after
my
decease
to call
these things to
remembrance
.
For we did not follow cleverly
devised fables when we made known to
you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
For we did not follow cunningly
devised fables ,
when we made known unto
you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
For He received honor
and
glory
from God the Father when the
voice came
to Him from
the Majestic Glory, saying,
“
This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased .”
For he received from God the Father honor
and
glory,
when there
was
borne
such
a
voice to him by
the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased :
And we ourselves heard this
voice
from
heaven when we were with Him on
the holy mountain
.
and this
voice
we `
ourselves '
heard borne
out
of
heaven ,
when we were with him in
the holy mount
.
We also
have the word of the
prophets
as
confirmed
beyond
doubt.
And
you
will
do well to
pay
attention
to
it
, as to
a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns
and the morning
star rises
in your hearts .
And
we have the word of prophecy
`made'
more
sure;
whereunto
ye
do well that
ye
take
heed
, as unto
a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn,
and the day-
star arise
in your hearts :
Above
all
, you
must
understand
that no prophecy of Scripture comes
from
one’s
own
interpretation.
knowing
this
first
, that no prophecy of scripture is
of
private
interpretation.
For no such
prophecy was
ever brought
forth
by the will of man ,
but men spoke
from God as
they
were
carried
along
by the Holy Spirit.
For no prophecy ever came
by the will of man :
but men spake
from God ,
being
moved
by the Holy Spirit.
