The elder unto
the elect
lady and her children, whom I love in truth ;
and not I only
, but also all they
that
know the truth ;
The elder ,
To
the chosen
lady and her children, whom I love in the
truth —
and not I alone
, but also all who
know the truth —
for
the truth's
sake
which
abideth
in us ,
and it
shall
be with us for
ever
:
because
of
the truth
that
abides
in us and will
be with us forever
:
Grace, mercy, peace shall
be
with
us,
from God the Father ,
and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.
Grace, mercy, and
peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, will
be
with
us
in truth and love.
I rejoice
greatly
that
I
have
found
`certain'
of thy
children walking in truth, even
as we
received
commandment
from
the Father.
I was
overjoyed
to
find
some
of your
children walking in the
truth, just
as the Father has
commanded
us
.
And now I beseech
thee
, lady ,
not as though
I
wrote
to
thee
a new commandment, but that
which
we had from the beginning ,
that we love one another.
And now I urge
you
, dear
lady —
not as a new commandment to
you
, but one
we have
had from the beginning —
that we love one another.
And this is love, that we should
walk after
his commandments. This is the commandment ,
even
as
ye
heard from the beginning, that ye
should
walk in it
.
And this is love, that we walk according
to
His commandments. This is the very
commandment you
have
heard from the beginning, that you
must
walk in love
.
For many deceivers are
gone forth
into the world, `even'
they
that
confess not
that
Jesus Christ cometh
in the flesh. This
is the deceiver and the antichrist.
For many deceivers have
gone out
into the world, refusing
to
confess the
coming
of
Jesus Christ in the flesh. Any
such
person
is the deceiver and the antichrist.
Look
to
yourselves, that ye
lose
not the
things
which
we have wrought
, but that ye
receive
a
full
reward
.
Watch
yourselves, so
that you
do
not lose
what
we have worked
for
, but that you
may
be
fully
rewarded
.
Whosoever
goeth
onward
and
abideth
not
in the teaching of Christ ,
hath
not God :
he
that
abideth
in the
teaching ,
the
same
hath
both the Father and the Son.
Anyone
who
runs
ahead
without
remaining
in the teaching of Christ does
not have
God .
Whoever
remains
in His
teaching has
both the Father and the Son.
If any
one
cometh
unto
you ,
and
bringeth
not this teaching, receive him not
into `
your '
house,
and
give
him no
greeting:
If anyone
comes
to
you but
does
not bring
this teaching, do
not
receive him into your home
or
even
greet
him .
for
he
that
giveth
him
greeting
partaketh
in his evil works
.
Whoever
greets
such
a
person
shares
in his evil deeds
.
Having
many things to write unto
you, I would not `write
them'
with paper and ink :
but
I hope to come unto
you,
and to
speak face to face, that your
joy may be made
full
.
I
have
many things to write to
you, but
I would prefer
not to
do
so
with paper and ink .
Instead,
I hope to come and speak with
you
face to face, so
that our
joy may be complete
.
The children of thine
elect sister salute
thee
.
The children of your
elect sister send
you
greetings
.
