Now the Philistines fought against Israel ,
and the men of Israel fled before them

fell slain on Mount Gilboa.

The Philistines followed hard after
Saul and his sons ,
and they
killed Saul’s
sons
Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.

the
sons
of
Saul
.
When
the battle intensified
against Saul, the archers overtook him and wounded
him
critically
.
The battle went
sore
against Saul, and

greatly
distressed
by
reason
of
the
archers
.
Then Saul
said to his armor -
bearer, “
Draw your sword and run
it
through
me, or
these uncircumcised men
will
come and run
me through and torture
me !”
But his armor -
bearer was terrified
and
refused
to
do
it
. So
Saul took his own
sword and fell on it.
Then said Saul
to his armor bearer, Draw your sword ,
and thrust
me through
therewith
, lest
these uncircumcised come and thrust
me through ,
and abuse
me .
But his armor bearer would
not;
for
he
was sore
afraid
. Therefore
Saul took his sword ,
and fell on it.
When his armor -
bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too
fell on his own
sword and died with him.
When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise
fell on his sword ,
and died with him.
So Saul, his three sons, his armor -
bearer, and all his men died
together
that same day.
So Saul died

When the Israelites
along

valley

on the other side of the Jordan saw that the army
of Israel had
fled and that Saul and his sons had
died
, they abandoned

cities and ran
away.
So
the Philistines came and occupied

.
When the men
of
Israel

were
on the other side of the valley,
and

who
were
beyond
the
Jordan ,
saw that the men
of Israel fled ,
and that Saul and his sons were
dead
, they forsook
the
cities ,
and fled;
and
the Philistines came and lived
in
them
.
The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead
, they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
It
happened
on

They cut off Saul’s
head, stripped off his armor, and sent messengers
throughout
the land of the Philistines to proclaim

the temples

their

there.

the body
of Saul and the

of
his sons from the wall of Beth-shan ;
and
they came
to
Jabesh, and
burnt
them
there.
Then
they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh, and they
fasted seven days.
